There is something that amazes me.

--The Cavs went 6 games in the NBA Finals 2 years ago and were w/out Kyrie and Love.

--The Cavs won the NBA Championship last year.

--The Cavs once again have the best record in the East.

--The Browns were 3 and 13 two years ago.

--The Browns let several quality free agents leave after that year.

--The Browns went 1 and 15 this past year.

Yet, the Cavs are called garbage all the time and people defend the Browns all the time.

It's freaking incredible if you really take the time to think about it!!!

I think it's incredible that a league is going to penalize teams for resting their players.

Ridiculous.

It's called fanaticism. Fanaticism is based on a combination of rational and irrational thoughts and feelings predicated on expectations and perceptions.

You know that. At least I think you do. So why would that seem incredible to you?

LOL...........you can try and turn it around, but it is ridiculous to bash the Cavs while making excuses for the Browns.

The Cavs are better than the Browns. Period.

No one wants to bash the Browns because it's beating a dead horse. People are fine to criticize the Cavs so much more, because they have such high expectations for them. Just wait till the Indians' season begins. That's a team with entirely new expectations on it.

Not only is it permitted, it's one of the board's main purposes. You're no victim here.

I like it, too much money on the line and it affects fan experience. Who wants to fork over hundreds of dollars months or weeks in advance only to find out the guy you wanted to see is sitting while perfectly healthy. Blame pops for this. He started this stupidity. I wanted to take my. Boy to game when we play in Orlando next month. But I am leery of purchasing because in past that would be the exact scenario they'd sit the big three. Want to rest players? Then reduce their minutes and manage the roster better so they are t playing 40 a game

I was listening to Sports talk on the way to and from PT today and this was the big topic.

While all agreed that the NBA does a great job of marketing and that Silver is the best commish in sports, they were outraged that Silver wants the owners to get involved and tell coaches and players to play in certain games because sponsorship is such a big deal for the NBA.

There was also talk about how much importance is placed on winning a championship and being rested at the end of the year gives teams a competitive advantage and it's wrong to take away a team's competitive advantage.

Talk also focused in on eliminating all--or most--of the preseason games, shortening the season, and definitely doing away with or cutting back on the teams having games on back-to-back nights.

You also have to consider is it proper for owners and the league office to be able to accurately have a good understanding of each player's physical make-up? Do they really want players to play when they are wearing down and then face the risk of injury?

This is a slippery slope for the NBA.

This is an interesting topic and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Teams will find a way around this. Now you will have players come down with "flu-like" symptoms before games, "knee soreness" and or "Inflammation of the elbow" just as examples.

The best thing to do if buying tickets, don't buy them to either game of a back-to-back. I almost bought tickets to the game after Thanksgiving, but opted not to because I figured there was a decent chance they would rest the Big 3, they all played, but I wasn't going to chance it.

I think it's absolutely prudent to rest the players in a quest to win a championship.

I thought this was an interesting nugget from an article discussing Barkley's comments on the situation....

In another epic rant, this time on the Rich Eisen Show on Monday, Barkley called for fans to boycott the NBA, albeit temporarily, to send a message that it’s not OK to allow healthy players to sit out games..........

It also should be noted that, including playoffs, James has already played 5,000 more minutes than Barkley did in his entire 16-year career.

As much as I want to blame all of this on Pop, it comes back to the league and it's schedule. If the GMs, coaches and players are saying they need more rest and less games, then change the schedule. Drop 6-10 games, eliminate back-to-backs, cut the preseason and limit Olympic play (each player can only play in one).

i agree that the hectic schedule has bred this pattern, so yes, there needs to be some concessions from the league as well. But in the meantime, as I said...you can still get players rest in spurts so they don't have to take full games off. You're going to get nicks and bruises in the course of a season, but thats why you get paid 20 million + a year. If you have a legit mechanical injury, then duh, you take care of your body. I see both sides, but I lean towards agreeing with the office on this, but you can bet this will be a point of contention for the next CBA

No. Board members can only express the opinions of Elinor Ostrom. Don't sweat it though, new users make this mistake all the time. Maybe read the guide next time?

Other than the limiting the Olympic play (only once every four years) I agree with all of this.

Yeah, limiting Olympic play wouldn't work for every country and some players and organizers would want the biggest stars to be able to play all the time. To me, maybe that idea would help reduce strain on body and also make the Olympics more watchable. Meaning, when we send the best possible team, we roll to an easy gold and I never watch a single minute of it. Why would I? It's boring. Maybe my idea is only for the US players. But yeah, a network exec that owns the rights for the next summer Olympics would want all the biggest names.

I was bored last night and counted up all the back-to-backs for the Cavs. There are 19 of them and 5 of them are in March. So yeah, I didn't think there were that many. Roughly 24% of the 82 games take place within a back-to-back. That's just dumb.

It's got to a point, when I see an average or bad team beat a good or great team, I don't say to myself, "Wow, I can't believe the Knicks beat the Celtics". I assume the Celts were playing on a back-to-back and that's why they lost.

Next year the NBA is making the season two weeks longer, but not increasing games. I still think that resting players is fine.

Just to add to your comments:

There are back to backs at home, and those are really tough. However, when you get back to backs in the road, that's just idiotic.

Another tough one is when the second game of your back-to-back is at home following a road game. It's almost as if you lose that home-court advantage because you were traveling the night before your "home" game.

Yep. Those are tough too.

We recently had a back t back, on the road, an evening game in Orlando, and then the Cavaliers flew to Houston, to play the next evening. Figure you play a 7pm game in Orlando. You finish up around 9 or 9:30. Then you have to get cleaned up, changed, leave the arena, head off to the airport, and get on the plane for a flight of at least a couple of hours. It's maybe midnight or 1AM ("our" time) by the time you land and deplane, to head off to the airport.

The Houston game was a 10pm game. That means 11PM our time. The game would be played until 1AM to 1:30AM, our time.

This is just idiotic. The fact that the NBA expects teams to go all out, playing their stars, in these idiotic games is moronic.

The NBA also complained about the Cavaliers resting their Big 3. Well, Kevin Love was coming off a fairly major injury. Kyrie had just injured his knee. Neither of them should have played in that game. Lebron could have gone, but Lue decided to rest him to keep him from being worn out.

I wonder if the NBA would rather have their stars in meaningless games, and maybe then unavailable for the playoff games?

Just for comparison, the Blackhawks have 13 back-to-backs, while the Cavs have 19.

Yeah, I'd be on board 10 back-to-backs within the season, if they always happened at home. It would still be tough, but at least you're not traveling between the games.

Did Fred just say that was Frye's first field goal? They are so inconsistent. One night everything is nothing but net, the next night-doink off the rim.

And why is no one under the rim when they take those shots from beyond the arc? A rebound would be nice in situations like that.

Our bigs blow. Period, Lebron had the worst +/- of any player tonight. I'm convinced Lue doesn't know what to do. JR and frye just need to buried on the bench.
