31-1 vote. (Miami said no)

Won't officially move till 2019.

Too soon for that, John. Too soon. Very poor judgement saying something like that just hours after the vote, IMO.

From the three moves in the last two years (Rams, Chargers, and now the Raiders) each owner receives $53 million.

I'd vote yes too.

Keno in the can. They bet just about everywhere in Vegas. Not sure that this will work out well, but it is interesting. Road trip AND see your team play? Priceless!

What was Miami's beef if they were the no vote?

Why?

Oakland didn't want to pay for a new stadium. It is a poor town, they can't, or their elected help can't see past their nose.

I don't see it that Art moved the team. I see it that Cleveland didn't want to keep the team.

Oakland opened that stadium in 1966. Sorry man, things have changed in 51 years. That place has got to be a piece of crap just like the Mini was a crappy place to host a game.

Atlanta get's it. The Ga Dome is 24 years old and the Falcons are getting new digs. Turner field in baseball is 20 years old and the Braves are heading to a new stadium this year.

You can't expect many teams to stick in a 50 year old building. Requirements change.

All three Mayors said all the same basic things after the vote to move happened.

"We tried, we really really did, but they are mean and wouldn't listen"

The day before the vote LV found an extra 200 mil to throw in, and the stadium was also 200 mil cheaper than expected. That's a gain of 400mil.

San Diego didn't even have a real stadium plan in place.

Does it suck? Yes. Of course it does.

But it's business.

If YOU were an NFL owner, and everyone was telling you to stay and front the bill for a new stadium, when you can just move and have someone else do it? That's just good business.

I was kind of hoping they would slide into San Diego and bring home that elusive downtown stadium the Chargers couldn't land.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

If I were an citizen of Oakland, I wouldn't go near that stadium or tune in another game for as long as they're still there.

I don't see why (and I've said this before) the city should be required to pay for a new stadium for a privately owned business.

Just like every other team that's moved, the fans of that city have invested in that organization for years and gotten varied results for it.

Not ever going to like this situation.

Unless the Ravens move to Death Valley.

Plus if each owner ever needs the votes to move he wants to look good to his friends...

Sad day... Love having a team in Vegas but feel bad for Oakland... Some die hard fans....

I think it really stinks. Even though as a Steelers fan, I was conditioned to hate the Raiders, I can't stand that the NFL is making this move.

From Wikipedia about the only teams that voted against the Browns move.

When the league was voting on the Browns relocation, Steelers owner Dan Rooney was one of only two owners to vote against the move. In tribute of Cleveland losing the Browns, Steeler fans wore orange arm bands to the final game at Three Rivers Stadium as a sign of mutual respect and sorrow for losing a great rivalry.

i guess it is easy to vote that way if you think you are in the vast minority. But I still have a lot of respect for Miami not voting the same as everyone else.

Oakland didn't want to pay for a stadium because no city should pay for a stadium. It is bad business. Sports teams are basically about civic pride and that's it.

Also, Oakland is not poor. It's one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

Oakland is where I would want to live.

It has a crime index of being safer than 1% of US cities, w/100% being the safest.

Let's see ..... the NFL returned an expansion team to Cleveland in 1999, with a 30 year lease on the (then) new stadium. We're what ... 18 in this year?

Wonder how long until the Browns ownership starts looking for a huge premium in order that they stay in Cleveland .... ?

They have an 18 year old stadium now. Do they start making noise around 20 years? 25? It's coming, just watch.

The XFL never had a team move because they were in business only one season.

I don't really see the big deal. The Rams should never have left LA to begin with, so they're back where they belong. Plus, Kronke is footing the bill to the stadium, not the taxpayers. And even though some don't agree, the NFL needed the LA market for growth.

As for the Chargers and Raiders, they were both fighting the state of California for new stadiums for a very long time. California kept saying no over and over again. The teams had two choices, stay in ancient stadiums that might not get replaced for another 25 years or leave. I know we all have scars over a decision like this, but these owners don't think with their hearts. I'd probably have left too.

I heard a funny tidbit, not only did Davis announce the move today, but they also announced a raise in ticket prices, by 40% in some sections. He's not worried about missing Oakland residents and their butts for the next two years, he's worried about getting Vegas season ticket holders. They will buy-in now and transfer their seats as they move. A small price to pay to reserve awesome seats in the new stadium on the strip. Casinos and ticket brokers are going to go nuts for them. They may sell more tickets this year than last.

I think it's crazy the city of Oakland is going to hold them to their lease this season. They should rip the contract up and force them to move to Vegas now.

If they were forced to leave Oakland, they'd find a stadium somewhere to hold games next year.

UNLV has a 48k seat stadium. That's better than being a lame duck franchise in your old city....for 2-3 years.

It would actually be quite funny if they played in front of an empty stadium, won the Super Bowl, had an empty parade and then moved the year after. Like, how goofy would that be?

I feel for the Oakland fanbase. They are paying the price. They've invested their hearts and minds into this team.

But I guess there doesn't seem to be a reasonable alternative offered up by Oakland to retain them,..

Tough loss for those folks..

They did the only reasonable thing. They let the Raiders walk because there are more important things than sports to spend public money on.
