I suppose it could have happened, but we've not heard that.
What we've been told by a source that should know, is that he (pryor) was offered a 8 mill a year, 4 year deal.
That's all we know... We also know that Brown says that he blames the agents. That confirms nothing really so what you say may be the case, may actually be the case.
It just doesn't sound like it.

It just doesn't sound like it. It has actually been very widely reported that this is what we offered him. He (Pryor) has also said, in so many words, that he & his agents wanted more because their estimates before free agency had them thinking they could get $12-$15 million per year. He has also said that because of this, he opted to take a one year deal to prove himself somewhere so that he has the opportunity for that kind of money again next year. Really, absolutely none of it is in question at all at this point. The only thing that some seem to have issue with is whether or not the Browns did or should have attempted to out-bid on that one-year deal.

I didn't pay that much attention to him and his situation to know that, but that's interesting.
Does anyone think that Pryor is worth $12 to $15 mill a year?

Does anyone think that Pryor is worth $12 to $15 mill a year? Pryor. (I doubt even his agent is that delusional) I say this with the caveat that he could develop into that type of receiver. Just don't think he's there yet. Has he peaked, or is his ceiling much higher? He certainly has the potential to get much better.

I said this before and I think it bears repeating....long-term, this may be a good thing for the Browns. Yes, it sucks he is not on the roster, however, this is twice now that the front office met or exceeded market value for a player heading into FA, and that player never got what he thought he would. Couple in the fact, IF the Pryor situation was similar to Schwartz, if you don't take the fair deal the FO makes, you aren't getting it again, so sign on when you have the chance.
Moving forward, I think this carries weight for future contracts that the Browns aren't cheap and can target what a player's value is before hitting the market.
Right on the money! It represents what will surely be a painful reality for many less-optimistic fans...the Browns have demonstrated that: They are NOT cheap; They recognize the value of current players who they want to keep; They will NOT be played by scumbag agents who lie to their clients; The FO and HC ARE on the same page. Perfect...it's what Championship teams do...they created a great plan...now they just have to execute in the draft. If they don't execute in the draft...all the other good things they've done cannot make up for that.

Even if he has a decent year, like making his bonuses and such, He'll be 29 next year and I don't think anyone is gonna throw big bucks at him. I think there will be to many WR's out there not to mention the draft for him to get the big bucks. IMO

He could have had a contract with the Browns that would have him and his family set for life (Maybe $6M does the same but not to that level), simply after one year at a new position. Maybe it's the conservative nature in me, but I would jumped on that deal (and that guaranteed money) than risk a one-year deal where anything can happen....an injury, playing second or third fiddle behind Jordan Reed and perhaps even Crowder/Dotson. There are a lot of decent weapons there and wonder if he can match stats not being the guy like he was here in Cleveland. What if something happens and Cousins is traded? There is a lot of risk to what Pryor did, even moreso signing with Washington, IMO. I don't think he made the right move.

Why would we match the 1 year show me deal? That is a deal which is purely and 100% oriented towards the player and not the team. I don't begrudge TP going that route but it's a player first option and we simply cannot afford that kind of distraction in my view. It's a danged shame as TP showed something - I wish him well.

I agree with you - his premise is that he will get at least as many touches as he did this year and that's a big gamble. I suppose I just dont understand why millions of $$$ would not be enough for any human being too I guess.... Absolutely begrudge Pryor nothing... nobody should be mad at him for doing what he feels is right for him. Just as nobody should begrudge the Browns not making a mistake by trying to outbid the Skins on a 1-year "show me" contract for a guy that will be 28 next year when he hits free agency again, just so that we can once again bid on him.
I like this plan better - let him go do his thing, and see what value he holds a year from now. Chances are even that we'll be in the mix to sign him back for a discount compared to what we offered this year.

You are the only one talking about moving on from players. Seriously, this a thread about Gordon and we changed it into one about Pryor. No one here moves on from players. They are discussed in perpetuity on this board. You are the only one asking people to do so.

You know he just came off a 1 year prove it deal, right? True and he was offered a deal that would be, I think, solid. He turned it down in favor of another 1 year prove it deal.. Somehow, that doesn't seem smart.

He put up great numbers last year with no QB. This year he'll have Cousin's throwing him the ball. He could easily put up all pro numbers and get a 4 year 50 mil deal.
I think once we signed Britt the door closed on Pryor. I think that was a very silly choice.

I think they spread the ball around more and Cousins already has his go-to guy in Reed. It will be interesting to see how Pryor does in terms of targets. Another thing....and this has been the same argument justifying why NE should trade Garappolo if they keep Brady, but Cousins (by all accounts) wants out of Washington. Wouldn't it make some sense to trade him now instead of losing him for nothing in the offseason? What if Cousins is not in Washington. Pryor is gonna be pissed at his agent.

You know he just came off a 1 year prove it deal, right? That deal and the one he signed are different, in terms of circumstance and where he was at / is at now. He hadn't proved anything as a receiver, we'd cut him (If i recall, please correct me if I am wrong?), and we offered him an opportunity to actually prove he belonged as a receiver. He did. There's a difference to proving you belong in the league, as a player transitioning to new position to proving you want top $$$$ at that position.

There's a HUGE opportunity for Pryor to play a big role there with a much more accurate QB. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/mar/9/garcon-and-jackson-gone-redskins-face-dwindling-wi/

They took a hit in the WR corp. However, they still have Jamison Crowder who had 7TDs (led the team) on close to 70 (second) targets and drafted Doctson in the first round last year for a reason but didn't really play due to injury. Pryor still may end up being a huge piece but I still think they spread the ball around. Not too mention Jordan Reed's impact.

I just firmly believe that with the loss of two of their top WR's combined with a much better QB than we have, his potential is much better in that situation than it would have been here. I also believe that had a lot to do with him choosing the Redskins as his option.

Face it, Gordon is a talented player, especially if he started out against 3rd string DBs. He's race up the depth chart, because hie talent would demand it. Then if he got himself suspended again, r his head went sideways again, then we're playing catch up getting someone else ready to take his spot.
We're not playing catch up. We're treating him like any other 5th string WR. It's not like we're offering him a new $10 million dollar contract that could of gone to someone else. If we think we need WR help in the draft because we only have one/two legit starters, we should go get it. He'll get reps and other WRs on the team will get the same reps. He's not a QB. It's not like he's taking anything away from guys that could help us produce. If we draft a WR high, and Josh pans out ... then the worst thing that happens is we have an embarrassment of riches at WR. If he flops again, then we go back to having exactly the same thing we would have if we just cut him.

Is it just me - for the physicality and potential for injury that exists in playing the game, the gamble between $30m and $50m, considering an injury is always just a play away, man, you need big cajones for that gamble.
I totally agree with believing in yourself but sometimes things ain't under your own control or volition. I guess I'm speaking as a mid 40s father of 4

yeah, there's no doubt pryor gambled on himself
I also like that Marvin Lewis basically said it will be much more difficult for him without Al Saunders, which is an underrated aspect of him leaving town
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

My question is this.
Is his next offseason going to be stat related? Is it ALL about stats? Because while yes, he is going to getting better at being a WR, he still has to produce numbers.
What if he puts up 70 catches and 1000 yards again? Which while still a solid season, 140 catches and 2000 yards is like a year and a half for the guys that Pryor wants to apparently be paid like..
Why should a team offer him more than 6-8 million a year?
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

BUT. People do mature differently, at different rates. When we look at professional football players, we see grown men, playing a grown man's game for huge money. And a good percentage of them are mature enough to handle the success and fame (though many are not). It is easy to forget, because of their size, poise and position, that these young men, in many ways, are still boys without the maturity it takes to approach their lives with intelligence and restraint. It's my HOPE that Gordon has grown over the past few years. That last season was a sincere move toward getting his life together.
We shall see. I hold him no ill will. I want him to succeed, and hope he can develop into the player he is surely meant to be. Given all that, I have no problem giving him yet another chance.
I only quoted part of your post, but I thought it was excellent, and was disappointed everyone kept talking about Pryor. People can post whatever they like, I get it,but.....

That's fine, lamp. However, no one player has screwed up as much as Gordon has and I have no faith that he will ever "get it."
People seem to forget how eerily similar the story w/Gordon always is. It wasn't his fault. He is working hard. He is in the best shape of his life. Then, he comes in out of shape. He is a new man. He plays like a lazy, disinterested bum. He misses meetings and practices. He gets suspended again. Fans support him. They defend him. Then, it's rinse and repeat.

You know how it is man, it's that Cleveland fan desperation, clinging on to the hope that something will break our way. One championship has broken the curse, but it hasn't made us forget 'all' the suffering we've been through.

I respect your opinion. I hope you respect mine that I will have faith in Gordon AFTER I have seen him stay on the team for 3+ years.
<<sigh>> I better edit that. Someone will say that he's been on the team longer than that. I am saying where he actually plays 3 full seasons.

With that said, if Gordon is popping pills, drinking Purple Drank, getting inebriated on booze, smoking pot when he isn't supposed to, hanging out w/guys who have been busted for drugs and unregistered weapons, missing meetings, missing practices, being late to team functions, being out of shape, being disinterested in games, checking into rehab RIGHT before he is about to be reinstated after receving a very generous break from Goodell, etc, etc....then none of that is good for the team.

I respect your opinion. I hope you respect mine that I will have faith in Gordon AFTER I have seen him stay on the team for 3+ years.
<<sigh>> I better edit that. Someone will say that he's been on the team longer than that. I am saying where he actually plays 3 full seasons. I think you're a good guy too Vers, and as a 'layman' analyst but avid fan I do look for your take on the game and the team, and I'm totally on board with all that you just said. Gordon can prove he's an asset to the team, but he's gonna have a LOOOONG row to hoe in doing it.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...
