Ok, so it seems universal that Garrett will be the guy, or at least the guy most seem to want or expect to be taken. I seriously hope we don't take one of the rookie QBs at 1 and I don't believe we will. However....
QUESTION....seeing as we desperately need both an edge rusher and a safety....why are we not looking at (or discussing) Adams as our first pick? If he is good enough to be predicted to go 2 then why not 1? Also, Adams is great against the run and can cover ground. Hooker is the ball hawk who many say needs more time to establish himself against the run. Plus, Hooker's injury will possibly make him fall. Maybe even allowing us to grab him at 12 or moving up a spot or two to do so. This will also depend on if we use the 12 for JG though.
Disclaimer: I am not suggesting we take Adams over Garrett just playing devil's advocate and entertaining the thought given the glaring weakness of our backfield.

I believe it's Garrett..... Then everyone else.
So whoever is rated #2 is simply the best of the rest.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Honestly, Garrett is Courtney Brown 2.0. His chances of working out are small....there hasn't been a stud All Pro Hall of Fame DE taken 1st overall since Bruce Smith in 1985....no other DE taken #1 overall since then has worked out.
Clowney has spent more time on IR then actually playing, DE is one of the easiest and riskiest positions to play in football...this guy will be one guy away from rolling up on his knee or something to being done.
i'd hoenstly feel more comfortable taking Hooker, Adams, or even a QB simply due to the fact the chances of them getting hurt is significantly lower
thats just me though.
I fully expect Cleveland to take Garrett if they don't trade the pick(never say never, a trade is always possible until they actually make a pick) I hope im wrong, but I just don't see Garrett working out here.
Anything that looks like a sure thing usually isn't....everyone says Garrett is the no brainer pick....thats precisely why im cautious...and what game film i have seen of him, I like Oghbah the guy we drafted last year will be a better pro.

King...I appreciate your honesty in expressing your thoughts. This is why I posed the question.
Thanks.
I am curious why Trubisky is even mentioned (albeit by the media) as a #1 while Adams hasn't been. Of course, we have a glaring need at QB but, we don't need to overreach on one. If we don't get JG then I'd rather we build the defense and offense in this draft and run with Brock or Kess than overreach on a QB this year. We can address QB next year in what most view is a significantly better class and with JG being a FA.

i think most years their is some legitimate discussion about who should go 1. even when luck came out some thought griffin. when manning came out some thought leaf. this is about as close to a sure thing as the sun rising in the east. we take garrett. if we trade out (i hope not) they take garret. so number one will be garrett. the success or failure of previous d ends taken at one have nothing to do with how garrett will do.
the real intrigue is at 12. what will we do with that? put together a package for jg?? stay put and take Howard?? my personal favorite is this. if hooker, or maybe allen, fell to 5 or 6, try to move up to take them. i especially would like hooker. he and Garrett would really transform our defense.
so for those who think like kob, you may as well resign yourself. the fun will be at 12!

Adams is excellent and I would love us to draft him - he has it all - plays the run well, can cover, has an intimdating presence and a leader. Whoever drafts him will get a perennial all pro.

I think Eric Turner was the highest Safety I ever saw drafted in 1991 @ #2 ...

I think Garrett should go number 1.
I really like both Adams and Hooker a lot. I have Hooker rated higher because he has far more range and is more of a true FS than Adams.
Adams is a SS who can cover slot WRs and that is a big plus, but FS's are much harder to find than SS's.
Two great prospects, but I think Hooker is a rare breed.

Take garret number one and if Allen falls past five we have the ammo to trade up. We would instantly have a top five d-line. Allen was in try he convo as a possible number one selection then for some reason he started sliding on draft boards. If I had to choose anyone at number one over garret it would be allen. He is a instant plug and play

I would be ecstatic if we traded up for allen/hooker/Adams/lattimore/Thomas. Any of these guys would be great on top of already getting garret lol but allen is my preferred choice and amazing value anywhere past five

Laugh it up, you won't be for long. Garrett isn't even a Top 10 pick in most other drafts....been sold a Bill of Goods. the guy will suck in the NFL...it will just take us picking him #1 overall to see it for ourselves.

Knight... You call him Courtney Brown 2.0? Take away the "quiet storm" mentality, and the micro fracture knee trouble, and I'll take it. Courtney had the potential to be a beast. Sadly his cartilage couldn't heal. He had a decent rookie season, 69 total tackles and 4.5 sacks. His second season he was looking impressive until his injury. He had 4.5 sacks in 5 games. In my mind Courtney's bust status was achieved by spending much of his career in the training room. Not on the field. As far as measurables they're actually really similar. I think Garrett plays with more intesity than Courtney ever did. Hopefully his body can hold up to the game. But that fear can't hold the team back from drafting a talent of his kind.

Insert any player's name for "the guy" above. I'm not saying Garrett won't be worth the #1 ... Call me crazy but remember this, I would not be surprised to see us trade down from #1 and stay within the top 5 and take which ever S is available between Malik Hooker FS and Jamal Adams SS with Hooker being our favorite ...

I very easily could see something other then Garrett happening at #1. And so long as we DON"T pick one of the QBs at one I really don't have a problem, like most will, in bypassing Garrett. I see other players in this draft who easily could have the same impact and production that people think Garrett will have.

If we aren't goig to take him, we need to trade out of the spot and collect the ransom. It would have to involve a first rounder next year, this year, a second this year, next year, and maybe the year after that.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Sorry Ballpeen I didn't really mean at pick #1, but I could see Soloman Thomas, Johnathan Allen, Derek Barnett, or even Jordan Willis being just as productive as Garrett. I could also see some of the Corners and safeties providing a similar impact to the passing game that Garrett would as a pass rusher. Lattimore, Adams, and Hooker come to mind. I see Hooker as possibly a Darren Sharper type. Obi Melifonwu is very intriguing to me. I could see him turning into a player like the late Sean Taylor in two to three years, he has that kind of athletic ability. But this is just MO on these players, and that really means nothing.
I think that Garrett will probably be the pick if we stay at #1 but stranger things have happened. Just not so sure we stay at #1...
