From my untrained eyes, Crowell was a way better running back than Pryor was a receiver. Crowell went several games where he barely touched the ball. He also had several games where he was consistently hit in the backfield after barely taking the handoff. He still has a nose for the endzone, and nearly ran for 1,000 yards. Had several big plays. At one point he was leading the league in yards/run. To me, he's the kind of solid player you keep around. A guy that occasionally flashes pro bowl talent and at worst is going to be solid. I always say this ...you can't have an all pro at every position.

Pryor was a converted WR with no guarantees of getting better. I can't recall one big play he made other than the occasional jump ball. I can't recall him getting off the line and demonstrating his speed. Yet, my read from the general feeling of the board is people believe the team is better with Crowell gone and worse without Pryor.

It's like a bizarro world around here.

At least quote my entire statement before you throw up the eye roll. rolleyes And what part did you find so disdainful? The part where he ran with anger, or the part where it was good to see? Like I stated before, if we move on from him, I have no issue.

Tell u what chief .... I'll quote and post what i please and u do the same .. deal? .. I hope so cause I'll quote and post as I choose ... but no worries cause as big of an ass as I am ... I do not believe I have ever once told anyone how to post ... well unless u want to count when I tell mac's posse to quit replying to him and he would quit posting the same dang thing ... thumbsup

As for Crow and your post and what I found disdainful ... it was not the fact he ran with anger .. it's the fact he did it for the first time in his contract year ... and I certainly liked to see it ... I like my dawgs to suceed ... u? .... wink

I am not a fan of guys who "breakout" in there contract years .... many on here aren't until a dawg does it ... all of a sudden it's no biggie and the excuse machine breaks out .. Crow has been sending up red flag after red flag since HS ... if your ok with it ... to each there own ... I gave u more credit than that ... shame on me ... *L* ...

This dude has been a RED FLAG since he left HS ... and this is just another one ... SEE YA ..

Could it be a coincidence that Crow's contract year started at the same time that Hue came to town? To be more clear, maybe switching from whatever it was that we ran before Hue to the current scheme helped Crow fly???

Honest question... but I do like the Crow. I think he's a solid RB to hang onto until we have less gaping holes to fill elsewhere in the roster.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I don't necessarily disagree with this take, but I agree with Diam also. If someone wants to give us a 2nd for him, See ya later. If we sign him for a contract he is worth, I am cool with that also.

Your point of view almost suggests any RB can thrive in Hue's system. A good RB needs vision and patience to hit the right hole. With the line we are building I think there a lot of solid replacements if Crow doesn't sign.

If you ask me, Crowell is a better player than this board gives credit for. He runs hard, and has a nice burst through the hole. I think he has grown.

Diam mentioned the contract year, and that was my line of thinking too. But I always saw the same thing with him, and really believe Hue's offense helped him, and at the same time never having a lead hurt him.

To my eyes, he is a guy that gets better the more carries he gets. To achieve his yardage last year was an achievement.IMO. When you get 10 carries a game, and are pulled on third down constantly, and still manage to almost get 1000 yards says he was producing IMO.

Dropped passes were mentioned, but I don't seem to remember that happening but a couple times. Duke, who everybody claims is the great 3rd down guy, which I agree with to a point, dropped a few, and I seem to remember those more.

As for him signing, I'm nobody to claim to know a whole lot about contracts and tenders, think they put the tender on him, to give him a sense of value. Was he an UDFA? for some reason that escapes my mind right now. But anyway,I think he and his agent understand where he stands as far as contracts go. I wouldn't doubt that after the draft he is offered a multiple year deal. This is just me guessing, but it seems like a logical scenario.

I would love to see him with a good line. One thing, when he did get a big hole, he seemed to exploit it very well, and quickly. I would love to pair him with a true power back, defenses could be worn dowm.

Could it be Hue and the system ... sure ... anythings possible ... I don't believe it was .. but I been wrong once or twice before ... *L* .. (I'm talking about today ... )

96.3% of players that "breakout" on their contract years never hit that level of play again ... u feeling me Mr. Ooob. ... or do u prefer Mr. Noob? ... smile

I don't think him stepping up his game had a thing to do with Hue or scheme ... I think he was motivated by $$$$ ...

I said once we tagged him I do not want him to sign a long term deal ... I want him MOTIVATED again ...

Dudes ALWAYS had talent ... it just didn't "show" until this year ...

I do agree with u 100% on the not creating holes part of your take ... thats a valid point and a good argument ... problem with that is the moron may hold out ... I just don't see what world that makes sense in when u look at the situation ...

I'm really confused as th what morons doing ... did I miss when he or his agent talked about there strategy and what the plan is? ... I may have missed it ... cause this makes zero sense to me ... ad that to his history .... HUGE RED FLAG .... another one ...

That sounds like a stat. . .

The contract year thing is large a fallacy:

http://www.espn.com/fantasy/football/sto...antasy-football

A few other things.

Is it really a contract year if you are going to be a restricted free agent?

Crowell was good in 2014 under Shanahan, average in 2015 under DeFilippo (I am really glad I don't have to type his name anymore), and good under Hue Jackson in 2016.

To be clear, I wouldn't pay Crowell anything more than the tender, but not because he tried hard in a contract year. I would not sign him long term because he is a running back and running backs get hurt often and are easy to replace.

Actually I don't. Lol, it's cute that you discovered the puck rhyme with the f word because of the hockey/Canada angle.
Anyway I think you're wrong about Cro, I don't think he suddenly tried harder cuz of a contract year.

i see a guy who smells the end zone, gets to the second level with authority and finishes hard.
I hate to make the comparison because I'll get hammered, but he has a little Kevin Mack in him.

I think Crow's authority is based upon his trust of the O-Line. I always felt like his tripping issues was based on him doing that RB forward lean they do when they expect heavy contact and are just trying to get an extra yard or two. Unfortunately, early on he didn't realize he had more daylight than he thought until after he was halfway to the ground.

Last season, he stayed upright a lot more, and I believe led the league for awhile in the most yards after contact. I don't think he's the kind of back who requires huge holes as IIRC some of his biggest gains came after he squeezed through a smaller hole.

For me Crows issues are more mental than anything. I think other Dawgs are dead right when they say he needs more carries.

*LOL* ... what did U go read the article and REALIZE IT HAD ZERO RELEVANCE HERE and so now I gotta be the bad guy ... classy ...

He compared ALL contract year players ... u know ... the ones that played to their talent level before the MOTIVATION kicked in ... where as I was talking strictly about the UNDERACHIEVING BUMS that all of a sudden produce and play better ...

I actually went to read the article very excited ... cause I love learning ... ESPECIALLY when I'm wrong .... but not for,the reason u prolly think ... its, cause I HATE GIVING OUT BAD INFO ... always have ...

All i learned from that article was that it had zero to do with crows situation ...

Feed the Crow!!!!!

We have two good backs. I'd keep riding the Crow/Duke train for another year. Go ahead and bring in a solid #3 via the draft, but not til day 3 of draft when we've already addressed our defensive holes.

I understand your points. What I don't get is what is it you want? Just cut him. Allow him to sign his tener offer?

I think Crow is a good back. I also agree with you that finding a replacement wouldn't be that hard. Duke isn't the same type of back, but he could be a decent replacement. We are also high on that kid we picked up from Dallas last year. Now we also have the draft.

If Crow wants to sit out, let him sit out. Once he misses a large portion of camp, cut him.

So what is he worth to us? And on the market? The 2 would be good. Use Duke more than last year. Like Crow a bunch, but his output could be matched. Seems like a kind of overrated situation. Pryor echoes. Sit him.

Peen I'm confused...is Crow upset and is turning over the apple cart? Or just wishes to sign with us and giving us till June? Long enough to get a deal done. What happens if he doesn't accept any offer and he doesn't sign our Tender?
Anyone knows? Is that like a Franchise Tag for for 2mil and he will be a FA next season?

I just don't get this. I'm sure its happened before.
Is it now imperative that we draft an RB in this rather strong RB draft class?!?

At this point he is a hold-out. We tendered him. He didn't get any offers from other teams and he hasn't signed our tender offer(his contract).

He evidently wants more money.

What has he missed? Voluntary workouts?

In fairness, he's a RB who played in the system last year, and has a playbook. Not like he's missing anything essential. He's going into 2nd the biggest year of his career (undrafted rookie being first), I guarantee that he's been busting his butt at some facility set up by his agent.

This stuff happens all the time. The Crow will be a Brown in 2017, we have the most leverage, and I'm not concerned about this at all

To me, he's a holdout when he starts missing mandatory meetings. Also, I am not sure you can be a holdout if you are not under contract.

Whatever his label is, whatever he wants - bottom line is he's someone who's not on the team right now. He's someone that just watched the team acquire two excellent offensive linemen and as of yet, again for whatever reasons/wants - is not officially a part of this team. My understanding is even if he holds out for the year, he'll be in the same situation the following year. The Browns have ALL the leverage (as stated above somewhere.)

Now, let's get into the realm of opinion. He plays a position that is pretty easily replaceable. We already have young guys on the team I wouldn't mind seeing more of, and again... the acquisitions of the offensive linemen, extending Joel and etc should have a back drooling for the open lanes that should be presenting themselves.

We have going off memory (old man memory, so be gentle if I miss a name/misspell one) of the roster outside of Crow:

George Atkinson
Darius Jackson
Duke Johnson

We have a draft that is notably said to be deep with quality backs and we definitely have the ammo to select one, and that draft is right around the corner. IMO, Crow is not making a wise decision for himself once mandatory/real practice rolls around and he's still "holding out", or however you want to word it.

Great question ...

Right now if I were SasHue ... that's lame ... *L* ...

I'd tell Crow he can go work out a deal with another team and then we'll work out a trade ... if u can't do it ... then sign the tender and u can walk next year ... this is not a dude I want on my team ...

No one is going to sign him before the draft, and lose a second round pick in this years draft. They would rather wait til later and see how the draft goes, then if they still need a RB, sign him and give us next year's pick. If no one signs him by the tender deadline .. he sits out the year, or signs with the Browns. Such is the life of a restricted FA.

Isaiah Crowell reportedly draws interest from three teams
Posted by Mike Florio on March 13, 2017, 7:30 PM EDT

Browns running back Isaiah Crowell carries a second-round restricted free agency tender. He’s nevertheless drawing interest.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that three teams have “inquired about” Crowell. It’s unclear whether those inquiries were directed to Crowell or to the Browns.

If another team signs Crowell to an offer sheet and if the Browns choose not to match it, they’d get a second-round pick as compensation. That seems to be a lot to give up for a running back, however. Any team interested in Crowell at that level should just draft a running back in round two; they’d then have the player at a reasonable rate for four years.

The Browns could trade Crowell for less than a second-round pick, after Crowell signs the $2.81 million tender.

Undrafted in 2014, Crowell had a career-high 952 rushing yards last year, with seven touchdowns. He added 319 receiving yards.

Man, everyone is dump this guy, trade this guy .....

We need players who know the system, have experience, can produce, and who can be team leaders.

Crow is a darn good RB. He produced on a team with a very limited pass game. He produced inside, on a team with a lousy Center. He produced despite receiving extremely limited opportunities. He ran, blocked, and caught the ball. Yep, let's dump him because he wants more than a 1 year deal. crazy

If anyone ever needed proof for the fact that fan comes from fanatic ..... just look at this team's fanbase. banghead

I hear 'ya. People get all giddy about possibly getting another draft pick, and IMO some of them lose sight of Cro's value and experience.

To be clear, Crowell can still sign his tender with us. He cannot sign with a different team. The deadline to sign with a team other than the Browns passed last week (https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/855406634448957440).
