Caleb Brantley was involved in April 13 incident in which he allegedly punched woman in face, knocking her unconscious Actually she assaulted him and he just pushed her away. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/fl...0425-story.html

BTW for a 6th round pick this was an outstanding pick IMHO.

j/c... I'd imagine we'll be seeing the video soon.... Caleb Brantley's attorney: Ex-UF player refuses to settle with complainant (w/video)Matt BakerMatt Baker, Times Staff Writer Tuesday, April 25, 2017 5:50pm The attorneys for former Florida defensive lineman and NFL draft prospect Caleb Brantley said the attorneys representing the complainant have tried to settle the battery case. "I was approached by lawyers representing the alleged victim, both yesterday and today," Brantley's attorney, Huntley Johnson, said Tuesday evening. "They indicated to me they were meeting with the State Attorney's Office tomorrow and that they want to settle the case today. I called Mr. Brantley and communicated what they said to me. He told me that under no circumstances were we to offer them money or give them any money. He said no." The State Attorney's Office is considering whether to pursue a misdemeanor battery charge against NFL draft prospect on a complaint that he punched a woman. Also on Tuesday, a video obtained by the Tampa Bay Times purports to show the complainant walking away from her altercation with Brantley earlier this month, according to his attorneys. The initial Gainesville Police Department report said the complainant, Chelsea Austin, left the scene with her friends. GPD's subsequent report said Brantley knocked her unconscious. The video begins with one woman speaking to Brantley and his friends, who are off camera. Witnesses told Johnson that the woman propositioned Brantley for sex earlier in the evening, Johnson said Tuesday morning. That woman and two others then leave the scene after the police concluded their on-the-scene investigation. Johnson said eyewitnesses have told him that the middle woman is Austin. Austin's attorney, North Florida Lawyers' Michael Williams, said Sunday that she was knocked to the ground and suffered injuries that require "extensive medical treatment." The 6-foot-3, 307-pound Brantley has been projected as an early-round pick in the NFL draft, which begins Thursday evening. Contact Matt Baker at mbaker@tampabay.com. Follow @MBakerTBTimes. Article

Something to note is that at the time the incident happened Brantley wasn't arrested or charged with anything it wasn't until days later when the "victim" went to the police station and filed a complaint that Brantley was charged.

jmho I'm just curious, what type of offenses (given she indeed lied about that) could Brantley's legal team push for?

First of all, hello, lurker for years but not anymore. I would think besides the false accusations one could surmise a defamation suit that robbed him of potentially millions could be argued. I think we are a ways away from this to go away unless one of the two party's caves but like many have stated if indeed there is nothing to these claims we just got a big time talent for great value.

I hope if he didn't do anything wrong he is exonerated. If he is guilty then we will cut him and wash our hands of him. If that's the case it's only a 6th rounder and most don't make it anyway. It was a good gamble IMO.

Of course, I have no way to prove this, but I get this feeling in my belly that this is a shake down. I hope it is, it means we get a really good player on the cheap.

I hope this gets cleared up (either way) before TC. Having this cloud over TC would really really suck.
I'm happy that Sashi came out and said what he did regarding the ongoing investigation. In regards to picking potential NFL talent in the later rounds, I see this as similar to grabbing a guy with a bad injury (like that Oregon CB a few years back). Low risk, high reward, with a short period of outrage.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

At this point, The Browns would be better off just cutting him and cleaning their hands of the whole situation.
When it comes to domestic disputes, there is always more to the story. I have no doubt this girl probably hit Brantley, and Brantley probably hit her back(in self defense), but its still domestic.
The Browns organization is just better off doing what Bellichik would do..just cut bait...tell the kid it isn't personal, but we just don't deal with that kinda stuff here.
Bellichik told Mixon(the piece of trash Cincy drafted) that they were not interested and made it clear in the newspaper he wasn't even on their board.
These guys with character issues are not good for your team. You see Joe Thomas? thats the kinda guys you want...guys that perform at a high level, keep their mouth shut, and stay out of trouble. These guys with accusations or video tapes of them hitting women is no good...nothing good can come from keeping these guys around.
cut him and move on, hopefully he learned his lesson.

It must be the guilty until proven innocent clause.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I think the earlier poster's assertion that Mixon was off of NE's board is correct, however.

Can't believe you made me look this up: Joe Mixon has met with and garnered interest from multiple NFL teams ahead of next month's draft, but at least one team apparently has no plans to acquire the running back.
The New England Patriots have scratched Mixon off their draft board because of his previous assault incident, a source confirmed to ESPN. Full article here: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/19029105/new-england-patriots-remove-joe-mixon-draft-board

I am not a big fan of Brantley the player. He's lazy. He underachieves. He even questioned his own motivation...LOL
However, he's a good value in the 6th round if he is innocent. I have no problem w/the Browns making this pick.

Seems the FO is trying to fix the stop the run game.. big dumb and stupid might be a good approach..I Don't know.. But the D needs to stop the run. And I feel the picks they made was to help with that problem.
I'm willing to throw out the character thing because Gregg Williams will handle that side of things.. Just want to see a mean ass Defense.

Not trying to be a jerk and saying this more in a humorous manner, but good character traits and Gregg Williams should not be uttered in correlation.

I'm hoping Williams makes our defense good but I personally don't like the man.. As for the pick I'm in agreement with you on the value... Don't know enough about the kid to make a judgement on his skills but from what I read he should have been a high draft pick except for the charges.l. Everything I've read about the charges seem fishy...

I wasn't trying to say that it wasn't true, more commenting that it was a relatively easy decision to make. They didn't have a pick till after he was projected to be drafted, and they signed a bunch of RBs before the draft. Added Burkhead and Gillislee, re-signed Bolden, and had Dion Lewis, James White and DJ Foster. Would have been more "meaningful" if they'd had a need at the position.

Vers you are very correct in the inconsistent motor of Brantley but when he is firing he is a true monster of Mayhem. I don't say that lightly. I thought he was the 3rd best player we drafted behind Garrett and Njoku. Kid has probowl potential.
BTW one thing I love with both of the kids we drafted for the interior DL, if they get a paw on you, your ass is going down hard.

You Vers and others.
1. You don't know the man how can you not like or like him. What do you know of his character outside of the sensationization of the Bounty stuff.
2. All I know is he is a darn good coach and gets results. The mentality of the defense has to be a little Attila the Hun style in it.
Most of you not liking Williams are the first to complain that our defense is too soft or things of that nature.
As long as we are discipline in our play...no flags as a regular thing.
thats all I want. Brantley other red flags will not fly with Williams. Ergo Shashi's statement of we are not sure that we will keep him. I think we are pretty sure on the incident...its the other flags, if he fails here he probably signs his fate with all other teams except maybe the Bengals...lol

A stranger hitting him, and him hitting a stranger is not a domestic dispute. Yeah, he was just defending himself from the mean little woman. How dare she not take kindly to his foul innuendos. She should be flattered when a man says such things. I'm sure all of you would tell your wives and daughters to take such talk as being a compliment, RIGHT? Nice to know that this fine young man is so capable of dealing with such a heinous assault by a 120-pound woman. *snicker* Now that he's a Brown he could curb stomp 100 women and it would be perfectly acceptable to you.... Hell, when Johnny was beating his GF all we heard were excuses. She was drunk, she threw herself into the windshield etc. etc. etc. The same holds true here. Doesn't matter what happened, you people will excuse his beating her unconscious. Pathetic. Truly pathetic.
