Watch the following clip (2 minutes, sorry I don't know how to embed videos) and get a good glimpse of Howard Wilson's personality. Use one word to define him.

My word: high-strung

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

DB Howard Wilson:

On where he gets his energy:
“Just a passion for the game. Especially when the ball is in the air, I just get revived or something. When I see the ball, I come alive. That is that money, that is the name of the game – getting that ball. When it brings itself up, I just have to go get it. I just enjoy getting it.

On the start to his football career:
“I was in third grade, and I tried out for the DeSoto (Texas) Saints. They didn’t want me on the team at first. I was a wide receiver, but I was really on the defensive line. Coming in, I was skinny. Everyone was the same size back then so it really didn’t matter what position you played. I was defensive line, then went to linebacker and stayed linebacker my whole high school career and then moved to safety in college.”

On his initiation to contact in football:
“My first contact was when I played defensive line. The first snap I made a sack, and I just felt that rush. Ever since then, I have loved it. I feel like I’m a tackling player, a physical player. I like the contact.”

On who he related to playing-wise growing up:
“I related more to the linebackers, the biggest dudes, like (former Bears LB Brian) Urlacher. I just looked up to them because they were physical. (Former Ravens LB) Ray Lewis and guys like that, it was just their passion for the game. Even though I was 150 [pounds], I liked the contact. I liked the mentality they had, the just go and get it, will against will, who is the bigger man, who is going to win. I just liked players who had that attitude.”

On the college head coach transition his final season with now Texas head coach Tom Herman:
“It was a whole 180. It came from more of a little bit lax to black and white, no gray areas. You either do it right or you get out. Regardless of who you are, you could be the face of the university or the football team, but if you don’t do it right, then you have got to go. It made me grow up. He made me grow up as a person and a player. Him coming bettered me as a person and a player.”

On the defensive system at Houston that produces drafted players from their secondary:
“It was always our mentality for the DBs. We called ourselves the ‘JackBoys’ at Houston. That mentality was just getting the ball. When he (Herman) came, he brought more discipline and more techniques with the system. That helped us even more to put everything together. It was complete.”

I agree. Must admit, I struggle to understand him. My wife, who is English, has no idea what he is saying. That's ok as his football play should (hopefully) clearly speak volumes. Lets hope it does! smile

The one thing that stood out to me in his interview is his safety comment in college. Could it be he may be used in a ball hawking FS role while they make Peppers the hybrid SS? I just found his comment interesting cus he didn't label himself a CB I suppose and instead said safety.

As for his word.....

I agree. We did bring in some potential CB's with UDFA's and tryouts but generally the tryouts are more or less the fillers to have a whole field of players for practice correct?

I wouldn't be suprised if by the time TC comes around and they have had a bit of a look at these guys we will be making moves like they did for Taylor to shore up the secondary. Attempting to get another value deal.

Most likely his season is over. If they were thinking of using him as a FS we should really prioritize Gilchrist and get him.

Howard Wilson - DB - Browns

Browns CB Howard Wilson suffered a fractured kneecap at rookie minicamp.
A fourth round pick, Wilson was injured one day after signing his rookie deal. He'll undergo surgery and likely miss the enitre season. The patella fracture is the second major knee issue for Wilson, who missed all but three games of his sophomore year to a torn ACL.

Doesn't say anything that I could find about post-surgery recovery times, sorry.

Browns CB Howard Wilson suffered fractured patella while simply running at rookie camp. He's the 1 who refused to do drills at his pro day..

Who could blame him if he didn't run a cone drill on his pro day?
There's plenty of film on these guys, why get injured before draft day, just for some bs drill?

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought most players do the drills during the Pro Day? Isn't that kind of the point of having a Pro Day?

I have a question. Were the Browns in attendance during Wilson's Pro Day?

I'm sure everyone took a physical before participating. Hard to hide a fractured kneecap. Now Reggie Hodges Achilles, that was suspicious

Apparently it's not all that uncommon of an injury and usually not terribly painful (easy for me to say).

I believe Kobe Bryant had a similar injury but finished the game he was injured in. He was coming off an Achilles tear re-hab and speculation was that the injury was potentially/partially attributed to that tear (no proof of such a thing though). Like every knee injury, each one has it's own degree of severity. Some people/injuries need surgery, some don't.

I feel bad for the kid.

I've had this injury.... and I didn't know I had it for awhile. Played through it. Discovered it in the off season and had surgery. He will be fine once he has the surgery done.
