good news. He was vastly improved and still young. He's a part of the solution
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Collins, Joel and now Kirko all extended... excellent job IMO. These players, IMO, all would've drawn up major interest and for obvious reasons. They're all solid, above average players. Glad they're on OUR team!

Boy three or so years ago I wouldn't have given you a nickel for Kirksey I'm on record as thinking he isn't, and hasn't been, all that special, but - clearly - I am one of the only ones. If they're this high on him, then this is good news. I'll have to watch with new eyes when things start up again this summer.

He's not great, but he really improved last year. I'll give a few thoughts on what I consider his strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths:
--Has good speed
--Plays well going down hill and can shoot gaps to make plays in backfield
--Pretty decent in coverage
Concerns:
--Has a hard time disengaging from blockers
--Takes some bad angles, especially out in the flat
--Not all that physical

That's about how I've seen him. Small, light, fast... NOT a MLB that you'd count on to play the run in traffic.
He's a classic, stereotypical WILL. Good, but not eye-popping.

he basically epitomizes the new wave LB ... slight, quick, good in coverage. liability in the box

The more I think about it, the more I think we'll see a lot of Kirksey and Peppers at linebacker with Collins rushing the passer. If only our safeties weren't such poop.

I was at weeden's flipper gate game against the Lions and kirksey was used by running backs out of the back field
He trailed them all game. Drove me crazy. You're thinking of Craig Robertson that was trying to cover Reggie Bush and got abused. Kirksey wasn't even on the team at the time.

I don't remember, but we aren't expecting his game to drop off due to the new scheme, right? He may not make as many tackles with 4 DL in front of him but he should be free to roam and make more impact plays not. He really stepped up his tfl game this year

A part of me thought Kirksey would be phased out in the new defense with Peppers taking many of his snaps. This contract tells us that Collins and Kirksey will be on the field almost 100% of the time. But who will be the 3rd LB in the 4- 3? You shut your mouth

Kirksey has gradually gotten better each year He better at reading the play and snuffing it out He made alot of tackles in 2016.....but how many stops on 3rd down did He have ? I think he needs to make alot more meaningful plays and create more turnovers I think he's a bit over rated. Take.him off the Browns defense in 2016 it's still.the 31st ranked defense

Though some poster will inevitably find fault in this transaction. 9.5 million a year, this is Terrelle Pryor type money, wonder why they couldn't agree. If everybody makes 10 million, can the team (53 man) afford 530 million in salary's? Joe Jurivicious signed a 6 year deal and was out 18 months later, if I recall. This contract, just means he will be sure to be interviewed in the locker room after Games, (probably losses), like Andra Davis used to be. In All actuality it's great news, but I was thinking Nate Orchard is the better player, (oh well, what do I know? Nothing.) I think Kirksey is a plus on special teams. Do His, Collins' and Zeitlers' contracts set a bad exampile that will drive up costs for offensive skilled position players who really make the highlight reel plays? No Bad News Here. ( oh, "Does this help you beat Pittsburgh?)

He's a classic, stereotypical WILL. Good, but not eye-popping. IDK he could end up at the SAM, for his coverage on the TE. Collins can play all three (I see him at the WILL), but then our defense probably should be called the 42.5 in stead of the 43. Davis wont be playing the snaps he played last year and who knows he might not even make the cut.

It was Robertson. We had TJ Ward at SS and he sucked at covering backs and TEs in space. Putting a LBer on the speedy, quick, and shifty Bush was tough, but that's what happens when your SS can't cover.

Yeah, one thing I remember about Robertson was that he chased a lot of guys down who weren't his original assignment, and then got blasted for being bad in coverage.

Robertson was actually good in coverage. He had pretty good speed. Covering Bush on crossing routes in traffic was too much to ask. Who was our DC that year?

I've always liked Kirksey and saw a good LB in him. Yeah, yeah I know I'm a Homer so that don't count. But I said WHY I LIKED him and thought he would be a good NFL player. I've always always liked his explosion to the ball and thought that was something special. Like all young players the game starts to come to you after time. Once he found his comfort zone. Possibly it took a long time cause this is his 3rd Defense in the last 3 seasons. That could retard growth.

The thing that stood out to me about Kirksey was his speed, and that he was always around the football last season. Glad this got done.
