Why would anybody root " FOR " Pittsburgh.

Anyway, Nashville lost, so...

They Choked! They must have Choked! How could they choke like a bunch of low rent street dwellers.

That's what you are supposed to say when someone loses a finals right!

Carry on.

I have explained multiple times why I am a Pens fan. I am not a fan of the city, or most of the people in it , but I have been a Pens fan through 5 Cups now.

No, the Preds did not choke. They just lost to a better, experienced hockey club. The Preds will contend again next season.

I'm not a hockey guy, but they definitely didn't choke.

The goalie for Nashville had a hell of game. It seemed like he was in good position on the goal that pretty much put away the game with 1:35 left. Just bad luck and a bad bounce of the puck for him.

As a goalie I would like to hear SpegonFTWs opinion on that. As a former coach, I would disagree.

Rinne wasn't locked in 100% like you'd want him to be. He gave up way too many easy goals in the series. He's still IMO reall, really good.

My first run as a hockey fan was in 2003. I latched into the Mighty Ducks because I grew up with the movies.

And then I watched Jean-Sébastien Giguère in amazement. Dude was crazy good. And his attitude was great. I stayed up till like 2am watching the Triple OT game against Detroit because I just couldn't stop watching.

He was asked at one point about all the crazy insane saves he was making, and his response was basically "I have to make crazy saves because I got caught out of position" (paraphrasing) which is such a wonderful attitude to have.

It may sound silly, but when Anaheim dropped the "Mighty" and just became the Ducks, I lost interest in them. And paired with that was Jeans dropoff, not that he obviously could maintain THAT level of play.

I tried to get into the Blue Jackets, and I just never could, "rooted" for their playoff run a few years back but I just wasn't "in" as much as I wanted to be.

But I'm back to hockey as a fan. I latched onto Nashville 2-3 seasons ago. And I just really like this team overall.

Just downloaded NHL17 and I'm ganna use it to learn the parts of the game I don't fully understand yet.

There's always next year. Right?

Even though Nashville got a bad break with the quick whistle that cost them a goal in the second period, the Penguins deserved the Cup. They were a little better.

I respect that, like I said I'm not a hockey guy and never played so I'll take your word for it.

After watching the replay from a couple different angles, it looked like the goaltender lost track of where the puck was for a split second, and that's all it took.
It's a shame a series can be decided on a lucky bounce, but that's the way sports is.

It was a tough play. You could probably spill some blame on the d-man for not getting to the post. As a defenseman, you cannot let a guy even touch a puck on either side of the post. Nothing good will ever come of that.

It was also a tricky bounce. Different arenas have different board play. The old Joe was known for live boards. The United Center has crazy boards. That puck took a weird bounce that almost could have resulted in a whistle (if it gets caught in the netting of the goal on the outside, it's going to be a whistle if not jostled out immediately.

Just a tough play to defend. A lot of times that puck bounces toward the corner or just dies. Every once in a while it does what it did last night. Credit the Penguins for taking advantage.

I hate the whole "puck luck" terminology and it makes me sick to see actual hockey people using that word. You earn your luck in hockey. When you win faceoffs, and create chances, and 2nd and 3rd opportunities, you'll see how much luck you seem to fall into.

It's the go-to for fans when their team doesn't win. Kinda like how NBA fans claim it's rigged when their team doesn't.

Congrats to the Pens though. That is one hell of a team. I thought Nashville played a solid series. Hopefully for them they can carry the experience into their next playoff run.

Sucks to see Flower in probably his last run as a Penguin. I can't imagine him returning next year with Murray clearly ready to be the every day guy. I mean he's got two cups as a rookie (on a technicality) and I think their could be several suitors for Fleury including Las Vegas.

Huge fan of his, and his playing style.

Off season Jackets drama building.
Clarkson garbage contract gone,Saad for Panarin, Hartnell buyout...

So is it Kovalchuk, Duchene, Thorton or does Jarmo have a hidden card to play? Ryan Nugent Hopkins Maybe?

July 1st could be interesting!

2 thoughts on the Las Vegas team

1. I'm betting within 5 years they will switch from the Golden Knights to just Knights. It just seems logical. I'm sure they'll get tired of being called something very similar that can't be repeated on this forum.

2. They are going to be REALLY REALLY bad this upcoming season. I think they're doing the right thing in the long run. They could have gone for a few more veteran types in the expansion draft and tried to be decent, but there is just no way this team is going to make the post-season in an always-tough western conference. So they did the smartest thing they could. They took almost all youth players, and even traded some of those guys for picks. They are loaded with picks. They went the Sashi Brown route. They need to find a few gems within those picks, and just hope there is a McDavid or an Auston Matthews in the 2018 draft.

Plus, I think they realize they are probably going to have a 1-2 year grace period where how good the team is won't matter. The NHL is a brand new thing there, and attendance will be very good.

Also really happy to see the Hawks get Saad back. I don't understand that trade from the CBJ side. Panarin is a really good player, but I think Saad is just much better. Faster wheels, and a better defensive player.

But wow are they thin on their blue line. Beyond Keith and Seabrook, they are really going to be struggling in front of Crow.

LV will most likely always benefit from away team fan travel/tourists also.

Curious to see how the home base fans take to it though. It's not a flashy thing like a basketball team.

They have a head start on The Raiders though.

I think the away team/travel spot will work for a lot of teams, but I really wonder 5 years from now what a Winnipeg/Las Vegas game will look like attendance-wise. They'll have no problems filling it up when the Blackhawks, Bruins, Maple Leafs, etc are in town, but when it's Calgary, Winnipeg, Carolina, Tampa Bay, etc... that's where they will really be tested. I'm hoping it does well. Bettman took a gamble on Nashville and it paid off huge. He also took a gamble on Atlanta and it blew up in his face.

I think they'll be good as it relates to nearby teams (say Phoenix) becaue while Coyote fans could go see a home game. They could "make the trip" to Vegas a thing.

I have a question: Who was better, Mario, Gretzky, or anyone else in the field?

Discuss please.

You tell us, it's easier that way, just tell everyone what they are supposed to say and cut out a step in the process

I don't know enough about hockey to make an informed opinion. I do think that both are great players, though.

Totally. Both are great destination cities too. I have already heard of Blackhawk fans planning to do both games, as I think they play Arizona then LV in succession.

I'm really pulling for it to work though. I've had a few people ask me about the ice in LV. LOL, the ice will be fine. Heat is not nearly a worry with ice, as much as humidity is, and there is almost no humidity in LV. With heat, you can just adjust the temperature of the ice, and you're good to go, but humidity, regardless of ice temp, can make the surface mushy, sloppy, and wet. Not fun to play on. There are a few rinks in my area (chicago SW suburbs) that are saunas to play on. Lot of humidity this summer. Not fun to play on at all.
