Oddly enough, she was shot by a supporter, not some nut job out for revenge. Stop posting Fake News. He was not a supporter and he definitely was a certified nut job out to kill her. He shot her first. Loughner had expressed a longstanding dislike for Gabrielle Giffords. Loughner had often said that women should not hold positions of power. He repeatedly derided Giffords as a "fake". This belief intensified after he attended her August 25, 2007 event when she did not, in his view, sufficiently answer his question: "What is government if words have no meaning?" Loughner kept Giffords' form letter, which thanked him for attending the 2007 event, in the same box as an envelope which was scrawled with phrases like "die b****" and "assassination plans have been made".

seems like your problem is with the discharging a firearm and domestic violence incident more than it is with gun laws. The gun laws very well would have worked if that case had been pursued and he had been found guilty. Exactly. All gun charges in all domestic violence or any crimes should be pursued to the maximum extent of the law and never just dropped because of a plea deal or the victim/spouse drops the charge. Interesting... I don't think you realize just how difficult that is. You have a Constitutional Right to face your accuser in a court of law. Look, we all know liberals such as yourself hold little to no regard for the Constitution until you think you can use it as a buzzword. That's fine, we get that. But understand this my fellow Dawg... if you want to replace Due Process with trial by mob, one day you'll find yourself on the wrong end of that torch and pitchfork.

Hodgkinson a prolific writer of letters to the editor, many of them concerned with unemployment rates and taxes. "I don't ever again want to hear how great a president [Ronald Reagan] was," he wrote the News-Democrat in March 2010. "All he did was give tax breaks to the rich and put the rest of the country (or at least 13.1 percent) out of work." “To think the Republican Party can call this man their idol is un-American,” he added. “It's all about the money.” The year before, he suggested in a letter to the editor that legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana would be a way to “stimulate the economy.” “Also to fund the government deficit I hope the Obama administration raises the income tax rate for the rich to 70 percent or more,” he wrote. On his social media, Hodgkinson presented himself as a Sanders supporter and a longtime critic of Republicans, particularly Trump. Hodgkinson’s Facebook profile was linked to his listed telephone number.
Did you present this to show that he's a wingnut? Looks an awful lot like the average liberal's view of things... Looks a lot like stuff people on this board write. These people block traffic. When some drivers protest and it becomes clear they are Rebublicans, people mob the car, rocking it, banging on it. I saw where some fat woman pretty much got run over trying to keep the car from moving...the driver finally felt threatened and took off, bumping her off to the side. Now they are targeting Republicans with guns, in cold blooded, planned attacks. This guy came in from Illinois, asked if it was Republicans at practice, and then started shooting. Maybe it's time for a wake-up call.

Go ahead. Blame gun laws. Ignore the pervasive attitude of a large segment of the Democratic party voter base. All the while this attitude is propped up by the liberal media, or at minimum, ignored. Shameful.

No amount of laws or regs could stop this kind of thing from happening. The guns are everywhere and easily available both legally and illegally. You can't put that genie back in the bottle, not in any short amount of time anyway. Deflect it to guns. Sad.

By Rebecca Shabad CBS News June 14, 2017 Republican receives threat after shooting, warning "one down, 216 to go..." A House Republican received a threatening email to her congressional office Wednesday following the shooting at the Republicans' practice for Thursday's congressional baseball game. The lawmaker, Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New York, received an email with the subject line: "One down, 216 to go…," according to a screenshot of the email provided by Tenney's office. The body of the email read: "Do you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance." A threat was sent to Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New York on June 14, 2017 after the shooting in Alexandria. Office of Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New York Tenney's spokeswoman, Hannah Andrews, said her office receives similar threats all the time, but Andrews said, "This was particularly disturbing and disheartening given this morning's tragic events." Capitol Police have been informed about the threat, Andrews said. On Tenney's official Facebook page, someone recently also posted a threatening comment aimed at her son, an active duty U.S. Marine currently deployed to the Middle East. The Memorial Day post said, "Waiting on your son to come back bagged," according to a screenshot provided by Tenney's office. Tenney was elected to the House last November and previously served as a member of the New York State Assembly. As a group of Republican lawmakers held baseball practice at a field in Alexandria, Virginia Wednesday morning, a gunman, now identified as James T. Hodgkinson, opened fire, wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, two Capitol Police officers, Matt Mika, a Tyson Foods lobbyist and Zachary Barth, a staffer for Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas. As of Wednesday afternoon, Scalise was out of surgery, according to Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Georgia. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/republican-r...down-216-to-go/

Well, Well, Well, Now we have a shooting from the left wing and all the right-wing nuts start going crazy and crying!! First, the "don't take my gun crowd" starts firing up. They usually will howl anytime a shooting like this occurs. Especially if a rifle is used. Now I'm not a ban guns totally person but some people should not have access to certain firearms. A law probably would not have stopped this guy but just letting things be is foolish!!
Now the " Lefties are violent crowd" kicks in. This group is beyond silly and stupid because its like they forgot the last 8 years under Pres Obama! There were all type of rallies and protests against Pres Obama were they used all types of language, and now that someone start acting like a right-wing nut, the tears flow!!. You gotta be kidding me. You had Pres Trump inciting violence at his own rallies and your surprised now??? That is typical righty B.S. Look at the amount of reported hate crimes since Pres Trump was elected!! But when some crazy dude starts shooting republicans, now its a problem!!..PLEASE
Since I live here, I guess I have to watch out for all the crazies coming to the DC area!!

That's the dumbest crap I've heard here... probably ever. So now you're left wondering????? Where the hell have you been? This fire started years ago. You're... #Gabrielle Giffords What does giffords have to do with this? The only commonality is that she was shot. Oddly enough, she was shot by a supporter, not some nut job out for revenge. Jared Lee Loughner link Substance use Zach Osler, a high-school classmate of Loughner's, and his closest friend, indicated that Loughner's life began to unravel after his high-school girlfriend broke up with him. He began to abuse alcohol and other drugs, including cannabis(marijuana), cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms, LSD, and Salvia divinorum (a hallucinogenic plant legal in most states).[18][19] After struggling with drugs for more than two years, Loughner quit using alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs in late 2008 and has not used since, according to one of his longtime friends.[20] The U.S. Army confirmed that Loughner had been rejected as "unqualified" for service in 2008.[21][22][23] According to military sources, Loughner admitted to marijuana use on numerous occasions during the application process.[9] Former classmate Caitie Parker remembered Loughner as a "pot head".[24] Loughner has a history of drug use, having been arrested in September 2007 for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.[25] "I haven't seen him in person since '07," Parker recalled in early 2011. "I'm looking back at this [as] a 14–19 year old...who knows if any of us knew what for sure we were yet."[26] In the months leading up to the shooting, Loughner's parents became increasingly alarmed at their son's behavior, at one point resorting to disabling his car every night in order to keep him at home. On one occasion, his father confiscated his son's shotgun and both parents urged him to get help.[27] Loughner also became obsessed with controlling what he perceived to be lucid dreams.[28] Views on politics Records show that Loughner was registered as an Independent and voted in 2006 and 2008, but not in 2010.[39][40] Loughner's high-school friend Zach Osler said, "He did not watch TV; he disliked the news; he didn't listen to political radio; he didn't take sides; he wasn't on the Left; he wasn't on the Right."[18] A former classmate, Caitie Parker, who attended high school and college with Loughner, described his political views prior to 2007, prior to his personality transformation, as "left wing, quite liberal,"[41] "radical."[42] The tone of Loughner's online writings and videos from immediately before the attack were described by The Guardian as "almost exclusively conservative and anti-government, with echoes of the populist campaigning of the Tea Party movement".[43] The director of research on hate groups for the Southern Poverty Law Center noted that Loughner's political positions were a "hallmark of the far right and the militia movement."[44] In the aftermath of the shooting, the Anti-Defamation League reviewed messages by Loughner, and concluded that there was a "disjointed theme that runs through Loughner's writings", which was a "distrust for and dislike of the government." It "manifested itself in various ways" – for instance, in the belief that the government used the control of language and grammar to brainwash people, the notion that the government was creating "infinite currency" without the backing of gold and silver, or the assertion that NASA was faking spaceflights. Dislike for Gabrielle Giffords According to a former friend, Bryce Tierney, Loughner had expressed a longstanding dislike for Gabrielle Giffords. Tierney recalled that Loughner had often said that women should not hold positions of power.[45][46] He repeatedly derided Giffords as a "fake". This belief intensified after he attended her August 25, 2007 event when she did not, in his view, sufficiently answer his question: "What is government if words have no meaning?"[20] Loughner kept Giffords' form letter, which thanked him for attending the 2007 event, in the same box as an envelope which was scrawled with phrases like "die bitch" and "assassination plans have been made".[47] Zane Gutierrez, a friend, later told the New York Times that Loughner's anger would also "well up at the sight of President George W. Bush, or in discussing what he considered to be the nefarious designs of government."[46] Conspiracy theories His friend Zach Osler noted that conspiracy theories had a profound effect on Loughner.[16][48] He was a member of themessage board Above Top Secret, which discusses conspiracy theories; members of the site did not respond warmly to posts believed to be from his account.[49][50][51] Loughner espoused conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks,[46] theNew World Order, and believed in a 2012 apocalypse, among other controversial viewpoints. Reports appearing after the shooting noted similarities between the statements made by Loughner and those publicized by the far-right conspiracy theorist David Wynn Miller.[52] The Anti-Defamation League's report also confirmed Loughner's longstanding interest in conspiracy theories.[53] Views on religion Journalists had speculated that Loughner was anti-Semitic due to his attack on Rep. Giffords, who is Jewish, but the Anti-Defamation League's analysis of the messages by Loughner found that he had a more generalized dislike of religion, and of government. A police report noted that he had previously been caught making graffiti associated with Christian anti-abortion groups.[54] Loughner has been described as an atheist by those who knew him.[55][56] Loughner declined to state his religion in his Army application. In his "Final Thoughts" video, Loughner stated, "No, I don't trust in God!", in reference to the official motto of the United States printed on US coins and US paper currency, "In God We Trust". He expressed a dislike for all religions, and he was particularly critical of Christians. Gabby Giffords WAS NOT SHOT BY A SUPPORTER !
Based on what I have read, Giffords' shooter WAS A NUT JOB, OUT FOR REVENGE !
Listening to someone talk on the radio or on tv does not qualify as research. Why..because many who talk on the radio and on tv LIE.
Those on the radio and tv know that most listening are too lazy to cross-check what they say and they know many of their listeners help them spread the lies.
It does pay to do your own research...mac

As far as his arrest, charges were dismissed.. how much should a person be punished after never having been actually tried or convicted of a crime? Depends. He unlawfully discharged a firearm "unlawfully" and was arrested on a domestic dispute at the same time. Many times if the victim drops the charges then all charges go away. If discharging a firearm charge had stuck, he probably wouldn't have so easily gotten another firearm and ammo. Just saying. Thanks for being civil DC. That is not true at all, unless the discharging a firearm was a felony, and domestic violence victims do not get to decide whether to press charges or not. That is totally up to the prosecutor, if he was arrested and the charges dropped, that means there was a not enough evidence .

Doesnt surprise me that disgusting liberals would do this. They are the party of violence when they dont get their way. A disgusting liberal did this, as in singular. You cant have it both ways, when a RW nut does some stupid crap, he doesnt represent RW, but when a LW nut does something he all of a sudden represents all LWers or liberals. Lets not get it twisted, this guy is a nut job. But lets all point fingers and say " see, see, see"

He also mentioned 93 gun murders a day in this country .. I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE THATS HORRIBLE ... now lets give a RELEVANT number ... hom many of those are with legal guns vs illegal guns? ... . Except that number is false. From the FBI, there are about 40 gun murders in the US per day. Maybe 40 is too high. Not debating that. But politicians spewing false numbers as fact is problematic. Suicide is not murder. Go look at Australia. The suicide rate by guns declined only to see the rates for all other methods do moon shots. Quit depending on suicide numbers to make the case for gun control by pretending they are murders. This is not directed at diam

What does this have to do w/someone shooting others because their political beliefs are different?
They could have run them over w/a car. Set off a bomb. Knifed them. Etc.
The issue is that it's freaking crazy to hate someone just because they belong to a certain political party that does not share the same exact views as your own.
Stop deflecting people and deal w/the real issue!!!

But I will also say on the other side people like Madonna , Kathy Griffith, and Ted Nugent have some blame in this. But honestly to me , it is not a conservative or a liberal problem. It is a people problem. Someone doesnt agree with you ? Punch him in the face, beat them up, eliminate them. But as long as we keep pointing fingers it will just get worse

The majority of suicides are mentally ill. Taking away guns will not stop them from taking their lifes. Only medical treatment will, and even then the risk is still very high
So trying to claim Australia is somehow special because they dont have guns is flat out wrong. It doesnt stop suicides.

But lets all point fingers and say " see, see, see" We should ALL point fingers because violence from liberals has been going on for a while. While liberals in power encourage it, or at least turn a blind eye. If ANYONE wants to talk about deplorables, the democrat party needs to start looking at themselves and their violent ways. It is making Dems look worse and worse. On top of the moronic liberal hysteria that infects the internet. and the beat goes on, but we have a leader who encouraged violence and got applauded for it heavily during his successful Presidential campaign. But as long as we keep pointing fingers it will just get worse We have liberals on this forum who threaten/encourage violence against republicans.

I am not sure who that is, but if that is true then that is not good, so whats your point? Does it make you feel good to point fingers? So people from both sides havent threatened/encouraged violence against the other side?
You may be in the drivers seat but God is holding the map. #GMSTRONG

The violence and destruction of their protests has been brushed aside by the liberal media. Now they have sunk to shooting congress members in attempted murder. Its about time someone pointed fingers and show these fools for what they really are. The country is already getting tired of liberal sad sack hysteria.

I've said this many times over.
When one of society's inalienable rights is to own a deadly weapon, death by gunfire is an acceptable and predictable outcome of daily life. To those who ask the question: "how many deaths are acceptable?" I say...
ALL OF THEM. ...Or society would do something about it. And we don't.
Freedom (whether universal or individual) isn't free. Dead bodies are part of the cost we pay for having an unassailable 2nd amendment.
I used to be a gun control advocate, some 30-odd years ago. That all ended when I came to the realization that America was willing to overlook the "well-regulated militia" part of the 2A in favor of virtually unregulated individual gun ownership. So I stopped caring at all what folks do with their firearms. My life has been much less conflicted as a result.
High school kids dead? Meh. Elementary school kids dead? [Shrug]. Public officials wounded/changed for life? Whatever. President Reagan shot on the streets? Big deal. Secret Service should have been more on the case, and Jodi Foster shouldn't have been so sexily waifish back then. None of it was the gun's fault, after all. Right?
Like I've said many, many times before on this website: I may lean left, but I'm not anti-gun in any way. The difference is this: I refuse to offer up hollow-ass meaningless "thoughts and prayers" for any of the victims OR their families, because all of this is the cost of doing business in the USA. Every day, someone gotta pay.
We will NEVER do what Australia did, so we should accept our communal complicity in these stories and quit being 'bleeding heart hypocrites.'
Thoughts and prayers my ass.
Thought has nothing to do with this, or crap would be different by now. God gave us free will, the Ten Commandments and his only begotten Son to teach us. After that, He left us to choose... so He ain't involving Himself in this mess, either... and I don't blame Him. So save your freakkin' prayers, too... because God ain't bringing the slain back, and those mourners left behind will have to find their own ways through the grief and tragedies.
We love our guns more than we love the safety of our fellow citizens, so we should all just
1. harden our hearts, 2. accept that 300M guns for 300M people is going to result in a daily death toll... and 3. just get (tf) over it.
I mean... it's the only reasonable, rational, adult way to look at it... since we can't even agree on common-ground dialogue about guns and what they mean/do.
And to my friend DevilDawg, who called me 'cynical' the last time I expressed these sentiments, I say:
Your 'cynical' is my 'sensible.' Nothing will be done about this- ever... so it's in my best interests to reconcile these truths with my personal reality. I'm no pollyanna about this, and I fully embrace the idea that I could live another 20-30 years... or die tomorrow because somebody decided to put wet holes in my living flesh.
IMHO, every single American citizen should accept a daily death toll as part of the price we pay for having a 2nd amendment.
I do. And I don't even own a gun.

Clem, you know I respect you and love you like a brother. However, I do not think this is a gun control issue. It's a hate crime.
Once again, that individual could have used his vehicle to run over the victims. He could have built a bomb and put it in the dugout. He could have poured poison in their water container. He could have used a knife or a machete. He could have hit them w/a shovel.
The issue here is how closed-minded folks are. Think like us or we will do one of the following:''
--berate you every single day of the year --whine and complain every single day of the year --refuse to see both sides of an issue --physically harm you because you are not open-minded like our side.
Come on, bro. That is the issue, here.
Those people exist on both sides. I am just saying that type of thinking is unproductive at best and downright dangerous at it's worst.
