Can't say I'm surprised, but...what did they think they'd gain from this?

If we had any other president at all, I'd say it's time to hit NK. But I don't think Trump is up to the task of commanding the troops wisely.

Trump can only decide to attack, and that's only on a small scale. Even James Mattis wouldn't be commanding the troops, we have generals with years of experience who would be handling that.

The president is presented with plans and makes many more decisions than you think. He also sets objectives. He's not a good planner. He likes to wing it and not learn about anything. Dangerous Commander-in-Chief if you ask me.

Foolish.

He has already taken his stand on these matters...

-He will not fight World War Three over Ukraine.
-He accepts that all Nations have the right to run their own Countries just as we have the right to run ours, our way.
-He has told his Generals to do what they are trained to do when trouble arises and he will have their backs. Even if they screw up, he has told them he has a Secretary of State and Diplomats to make the best of that situation. But don't screw up!
-He told his Defense Secretary to come up with a plan to destroy ISIS and a plan on what to do about North Korea in various situations.
-He would take care of his part of the process by meeting with China, Russia and anyone else in order to take care of these problems with diplomacy. If it doesn't work, he will turn loose the Bull Dog.

I'm glad I brought my hip waders, it's getting deep in here now.

I have cows right outside my front door most mornings, so I know the smell of BS pretty well there 40.

As sad as this story is and as much as my heart breaks for his family... if you are willing to start WWIII over one deceased college student, well count me out of those plans.

Not over one student. NK continuously provokes the US.

I really haven't studied the story....what was the guy doing there in the first place? I don't like to point fingers at a person who just died, but that seems....let's say goofy.

Was studying abroad, NK trip was promoted as a safe cultural experience. At 3am in the morning he wondered to the lobby area of his hotel and took down a propaganda sign, left it there. This act here would be at most a misdemeanor, NK gave him 15 years hard labor for it.

I knew about the sign and hard labor. I just wasn't sure why he was there.

I guess whoever was promoting it as a safe cultural experience might have gotten that part gummed up.

"Wisely" being the key word there.

As for letting this turn into WW III, I seriously hope not. I bet if you give it a little time, even Otto's parents would say this isn't the right thing to do.

But, Trump is unpredictable (his word, not mine) so who knows what he'll do.

I don't really see it as any one president being that different. Obama drew his "line in the sand" and never stuck to it. Trump told N. Korea to stop its missile tests. He sent a carrier group into the region to rattle sabres. N. Korea continued its missile tests and continue to do so.

They just try to act tough and stir the pot.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

What the heck is Dennis Rodman still doing over there? Ooops just noticed he's back. Kinda wonder if he had anything to do with this.

Possibly. But I would sooner say the NK knew the guy was dying and didn't want him to die there, in NK.

The tour group that he went with, Young Pioneer Tours, advertised itself as taking younger people on tours their moms wouldn't like. Their slogan says something similar to that. They know they are going to dangerous places like NK, Afghanistan, etc... so if they are selling these as "safe" then that must be a relative term.. and if these young people actually believe a tour group has the ability to keep them safe in places like that, then shame on them for being stupid.

Yeah probably so. I'd like to hope that he could have helped get others freed while there as well. Guess that's not on the agenda, but who knows?

Not to mention taking down propaganda posters of NK's well known insane leaders isn't exactly a brilliant move.

The thing is, this won't turn in to WWIII. Nobody is actually going to stand up for this idiot.

China has too much to lose. They stick up for him because of old times, but they aren't going to stand next to this guy in a real fight beyond words. They migh complain, but even they know this little Pugsly has to go.

Plus, we have been in a world war for maybe 15 years. We and others have just been able to manage it.

Maybe as a race of people, the human race, we know we can't just start lobbing nukes all around the globe.

China is just worried because they know where 20 million North Korean refugees are going to try to go when the shelling starts... China.

Where do you think the millions of South Korean refugees would go?

Couple things here, the video of someone taking a poster, is grainy and from a distance, you can't tell who it is.

North Korea has a history forcing confessions from their "enemies of the state".

The group warrmbier was with said this was not a trip where people were acting the fool. He was the only American in the group.

Warmbier was a high school valedictorian, and attending grad school, Japan I think, the next year.

What's more likely, this really smart guy did the dumbest thing on Earth? Or North Korea was being North Korea?
