From what you know or could speculate suppose Quinn had been snapped up before 22 ..what would have happened then?

Mensa, PLEASE tell me that because Johnson did better than the Browns have, that isn't proof he is a great talent evaluator. I also notice you took one sentence and tried to prop up Johnson by rebutting it. The fact is that without the ineptitude of the Vikings, Johnson doesn't win any Super Bowls. As I said, how many championships did he win with Miami?

That's hard to say...

If Darrelle Revis would have slipped then perhaps Savage would have still traded up as he was in Savage's top 10 (ahead of Quinn in fact).

But, I could also envision the team staying put at #36 and grabbing Eric Wright there.

Two targeted positions before the draft were CB and OL - so those positions were going to be dealt with regardless of what happened and most likely in the first two picks.

As far as the QB position I don't think Savage was real interested in anyone other than Quinn and Russell. It's debatable whether any of the 2nd tier guys would provide an upgrade.

Things ended up working out tremendously in Cleveland's favor - to this day I cant believe Savage snagged the Franchise Tackle, potential Franchise QB and an upgrade at CB.

Pretty incredible draft - with the wild card being Brady Quinn. If he works out, like Savage has stated this will be the defining draft for Cleveland. It doesnt matter if this team goes 0-16 this year and Dallas gets the #1 pick...if Quinn lives up to the hype - it will be looked back on as an excellent draft PERIOD.

Just a quick guess, saying the trade was never made for Quinn...I suspect Cleveland's draft would have looked like this:

#3 Thomas
#36 Wright
#67 Alleman or Alford? Insert DL/OL here...

While that would've been excellent it's not as good as what actually happened.

Agreed, and the optimism going into this season and the future wouldn't be nearly as bright. (Imagine spending a first rounder on a QB next year and having to go through the growing pains we'll have to go through this year NEXT YEAR. Browns fans would be in an uproar.)

Savage had written on a piece of paper on his fridge "3 Thomas, 7 Quinn, 36 Wright." So I have to believe he would have taken Wright at 36 regardless. I wonder if Savage had Quinn ranked 7th on his board...

Plus here's another thing I wanna throw out there, what QB's in next year's draft would we be interested in? I'm not as high on Brian Brohm as others are (his backup played well when he was out and he's had a LOT OF TALENT around him).

A guy I'm really high on in next year's draft is Colt Brennan, but he plays in that gimmick shotgun offense (Run n Shoot) and has character issues. Still, I think he's the real deal because unlike Timmy Chang (his predecessor) Brennan PROTECTS THE FOOTBALL and doesn't throw NEARLY as many INT's as Chang did. Plus Brennan's completion % is off the charts, but I think a lot of that has to do with the system he plays in.

Imagine if we went into next year and didn't need a QB at all?

John Lennon should have made that a line in his song.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I refuse to make or agree with any predictions considering training camp hasn't officially started yet. There is no way anyone can see the future of the season untill we see who the starters are going to be.
