why would conservatives watch trevor noah? you should know by now that the last people *most* conservatives are gonna listen to is a black liberal dude on TV.
it sucks saying this, but that's the reality: the only people capable of bringing a perspective that most of these conservatives are gonna remotely take seriously is gonna have to come from a conservative white dude from fox news or briebart, or any other far right news source.
Before Trevor Noah, when Jon Stewart did the Daily Show, anytime he would say something "out there", liberals would say he was just a comedian and not a journalist.. then when he would say something insightful, they would quote him... IIRC at one point he was ranked in the Top 5 of most influential liberals in the US by Forbes magazine.. yet everything he said was still cloaked in the "Well he's a comedian" mode...
So is Trevor Noah a comedian or a journalist or is he a comedian with insight.. help me out here..
And as far as watching him.. there is only so much time in the day and with Samantha B., and Colbert, and Noah, The View, and all of the late night show hosts... there is only so much "news delivered as comedy" that a guy has time for in one day.
i'm not sure who these "other liberals" are, but Noah is just like Stwewart, or Bill Maher, or john oliver: comedians with very good insight who do often bring facts into their satirical shows.
i dunno who samantha B is. i heard of her but never watched her so i don't know what she is saying on a regular. i can only speak on who i watch.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
i'm struggling to find when Haus 40, and others have ever stood up and defended blacks when it comes to these shootings.
So true. I'll never struggle to find them tho because I'm 90% sure I know why they never do.
i try to hold out hope for those two, but the more discussions we have on this, the more i can't help but wonder...

That's a pretty loaded statement right there, and it reflects on you quite a bit.
It's not a loaded statement, he's (not so subtly) implying that conservatives are racists... "Loaded" would mean that it can mean more than one thing, his statement can only mean one thing.
So if I favor and support the Police who keep my family safe, keep my community safe, help me when there is trouble and risk their lives doing it all, that makes me a Racist?

Oh...
Don't mind me. I'm just trying out the "QUOTE" button.
You know how they say we each have a little angel sitting on one shoulder and a little devil sitting on our other shoulder, each whispering into our ears about every given situation.
The little angel says to do good while the little devil says to do bad and we have to decide who we will listen too. This seems to be the case with all the Races except one...
With Black Folks who get pulled over by the Police, both of them little shoulder sitters suddenly scream "RUN SON!!!"
I'm white and I would trust Swish long before I'd trust 40, Diam, or Haus to have my back. And really race has little to do with it although it's a factor no doubt but not the major factor. It's character I trust. People of these characteristics I do not trust...
Shy... Ego... Distracted. ... Cynicism. ... Neuroticism. ... Thin Skin. among few others.

at this point...well, it's been like that for a while, i don't have any faith that you two actually like black people. it's why discussing these things with you guys, or the majority of people on this board ends up being nothing more than a complete waste of time.
I said the officer panicked and shot when he probably should have just disengaged and ran back to his cruiser.
I also said that I did not believe he had to shoot and that a man is dead as a result.
Maybe you read what you want to read? Maybe you are a total black/white kind of thinker (not race related) and incapable of seeing shades of gray? I just don't know.
Anyway, I think the officer was overcharged, as officers in these situations often are. And apparently members of two separate juries agree with me because here we are.
What is your explanation for that? Let me guess, racists.
Just keep in mind that these juries were actually there, they heard BOTH sides of the story and spent a considerable amount of time deliberating about it. There's more to these things than what you read on Shaun King's Twitter feed.
The officer made a split-second, fatal mistake. That is not murder and I disagree with charging him with any classification of homicide that requires planning or malice aforethought. If you understand that distinction then you will understand why even voluntary manslaughter is an inappropriate charge, even acknowledging that the officer made a bad decision.
And yes, I've made it clear that I believe the criminal justice system is completely racially biased.
The systems seems to work perfect when it's charging and convicting black men, yet when it comes to cops, we either get mistrials or "over charged" which then leads to acquittals.
And this mainly involves cops with black people.
If someone is inherently biased, prejudice, or scared of black people, then they need to get the hell out if the police force.
Their jobs are to protect and serve, not discriminate and punish.

What do you base your level of trust on when you have never met the person and have had no time to judge their character?

You wouldn't trust a shy person? What is the reason for that? I am genuinely curious.

This is murder-- video of Brazilian police, probably Not Safe For Work:
Video of the shots aren't caught on tape but the audio is and it may be disturbing for some. There are other videos of other instances that are more explicit, with the victim literally on his knees, hands behind head, and police shooting them in the back of the head. I've never seen such a video originate from the United States... many seem to come out of South America.
I'm just trying to give you something to compare to when you talk about murder, which implies planning and bad faith, not just a bad decision in the moment where somebody dies.
Ray Tensing could have been charged with something like involuntary manslaughter. It's still a very serious charge that carries a prison sentence.
Quote:
Involuntary manslaughter occurs when the agent has no intention (mens rea) of committing murder, but caused the death of another through recklessness or criminal negligence. The crime of involuntary manslaughter can be subdivided into two main categories: constructive manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter.

While this doesn't involve race, I think it's a big part of the problem.
People are raised to respect the law. To trust law enforcement. And for the vast majority of police officers, that holds true. However, the fact that we've been taught to trust law enforcement all of our life, it instills a certain inherent bias that makes it very hard to find a jury who will convict an officer.
When having something like that ingrained in you all of your life, it's very hard to turn that off.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
And not one person on this board has ever given a reason why the black community should have trust in law enforcement.
Because history clearly says we shouldn't.

I think you would have such better encounters with police, and so much more peace of mind if you swallowed your pride and showed deference and respect. Why you don't do that is beyond me.
Note that I'm talking specifically to you, based on some of your comments over the years about always sticking a phone in a cop's face, always feeling the need to challenge what they say, always wanting to fight back and all that. I just don't get it.

Why should I swallow my pride and show respect for an organization that has NEVER shown us any respect?
Do you even know the history of what turned out to be modern day police and the relationship between blacks in this country?
I'm willing to bet most on this board have zero idea.
How come it's always us who have to conform and swallow pride, while you ignore all the wrong doings toward us throughout the centuries in this country?
I just don't get it.

Because it is in your best interest to. Do you ever notice that in these high-profile cases where an officer "murders" somebody, that the "victim" wouldn't comply with polite and very simple instructions? That might not be true all the time, but it's true most of the time. I'm not trying to say that anything an officer does after that is vindicated, I do not think that, but usually there is some culpability from the victim as well.
Get pulled over and mouth off to a cop and you're going to get a ticket. And I can assure you, so would I. Or maybe you're going to get a ticket regardless but if you mouth off, you might get dinged for your taillight and not wearing a seatbelt as well, maybe go to jail on top of that. Do you see where I'm going with this? Just some simple respect and courtesy goes a long way. It will never hurt and will usually help.
If you think you're being treated unfairly, comply anyway. You can always hire a lawyer and fight something in court. My advice is to either tell the cops the truth or remain silent, but don't lie. The only questions you must answer are regarding your name, address, and date of birth. If you're not sure what else to answer beyond that then just say you're going to remain silent, get a decent lawyer, and do what he says. But don't take it out on the officer.. that will rarely work out well for you.
Sitting there, being quiet is how nothing gets changed, and is sending a clear message that cops behaving like that is acceptable.
It's wrong and I won't sit there and take that crap.
You can be an obedient citizen all you want, I guess it's easy to respect authority when you aren't the one being targeted.
Stop telling me what I should and shouldn't do. The cops actually protect and serve people who look like you. They treat us like animals, and I refuse to listen to somebody who has never been harassed by the cops on a consistent basis try and tell me how I should feel about law enforcement.

Just keep on giving the man with the gun a hard time!
Then I'll go back to being strapped.
Honestly the only person I ever had good dialogue with this topic that comes from the other side is Devil.
I really don't have time for hypocrites who will trash the government yet obey like obedient dogs to the lowest form of government: cops.
Y'all can't even defend citizens against corrupt cops, yet in suppose to believe y'all will stand up to big government if it ever came down to it?
Lol.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Cops wouldn't be the enemy if they weren't blatantly killing us since the end of slavery.
But of course you think that's perfectly fine.
Who does the black community call when it's the cops harassing/assaulting/killing us?
Why is it that if a cop kills a black person, it's justice.
But if I defend myself from a cop abusing his power, I'm a cop killer?
But once again, nobody had stated why the black community should trust the cops, other than "so you don't get shot".
I asked Haus if he knew the history of cops and blacks. He didn't respond.
Will you?
And rocket, don't bother defending me from 40 or arch. Those two would sell me out in a heart beat to save their own skin.
Those are the guys who will report a crime and describe the perp as a black male even though they didn't actually see the person. And of course the criminal justice system will believe them.
Why?
Cause the system is designed to protect whites, and enslave blacks. Period.

I was gonna answer your question until you took that huge crap on us. Not gonna waste my time on it now.
