Which black community?
Are you talking about a specific black community or lumping them all together?

The community that has been here since slavery.

Concerning me, that is a flat out lie. You know it.

And it's pathetic of you to even put my name in that. Pathetic!

Is it though?

From you've post throughout the years on this topic, I have zero reason to believe otherwise.

Obviously, you have no clue about me.

I could easily say, based on your posts throughout the years, that you would kill a cop if you got pulled over. Should I say that?

You've threatened to crack my skull if we ever met.

Those are facts.

You have not one single fact asserting I would throw you, or any person under the bus based on race.

You misspoke. You erred. You lied.

You're not answering the question.

Do you know the history or not?

No one could know the history of all cops in all black communities.

If you think you do your are just fooling yourself.

But please tell me the entire cops and black community history since slavery all across the USA not just opinion but facts and how it's the same in LA as it is in DC.

I didn't lie about anything.

I truly feel you and others would sell me out if crap hit the fan.

So I'm not apologizing for anything. Screw you.

Philando Castle, and he was an NRA member. Multiple videos showing him getting gunned down while following directions, but still getting murdered in broad daylight.

And you know what?

Having watched some of those videos, and listening to the audio, I agree.

From what I saw/heard, it did appear he was following instructions/directions.

The NRA failed to represent a member in defense or lobby any sort of criticism.

What a reprehensible organization.

Let me put it this way: The NRA will lobby for the rights of u.s. citizens to possess guns.

I wasn't aware the NRA was an individuals legal defense team in a case like this.

"The video does not show Yanez's point of view or the inside of Castile's car, where his girlfriend Diamond Reynolds and her 4-year-old daughter were passengers."

There's an extremely more graphic video if you search around. It shows the entire encounter from the perspective inside the car.

It's gross, but watch it if you believe he wasn't murdered by an officer. Your opinion will change.

I'll take your word for it I don't need to watch it if you say it's there. I was wrong and should have said 99% of the time no one gets hurt.

The NRA is not about defending individuals. The NRA is about fighting for gun rights for individuals.

What point would/could they make? "P C had a right to have a gun."? He did.

I suppose they could say ............well, I don't know what they could say. Should they make a statement over every shooting in just Chicago? They'd never get done making statements if that were the case.

Require police officers to see life through the eyes of those from minority groups. Something much more than diversity training, and it must show a meaningful reality.

Much of the conflict in our world gets brought upon people not breaking out of the bubble they were raised in.

I am all for cops getting diversity training. Of course I am also all for folks getting pulled over by the cops to go the same training to be able to see through the eyes of the cops.

There's actually a bill in the New Jersey state legislature that would require grade school students to learn how to interact with police. It seems like a wise addition-- they might as well throw something that's useful in the real world into the curriculum from time to time.

It's an interesting idea although you'd have to work out the specifics.

I wonder if there could be something along the lines of a 'shadow' system for younger officers. I've noticed that in some of these shootings where an officer makes a split-second decision that later turns out to be not such a good decision, it involves a rookie officer and maybe the explanation is more along the lines of panicking and not so much bad intent. Working with a more experienced officer might help the transition (maybe something like this already happens?)

I've spent a ton of time visiting different big cities the last few years, and I always see the homeless population of these cities. I always wonder what brings individuals to such an awful condition, and I think the only way to understand would be to take on the life of someone who is homeless.

It'd be interesting to see police academies slip their cadets into covert homeless life for a week or two. Maybe that would help others gain a bit more empathy.

----------------------------

The classes on how to interact with police? Sounds much like the stories three of our members shared about how they were taught how they had to act different around police due to the color of their skin.

I'm not sure this is a person problem more so than an institutional problem with law enforcement.

Academies slipping their cadets into covert homeless life would be more likely to build resentment than sympathy. I'm not sure how practical that is anyway.

I look back to one of my old jobs where I worked in some very rough neighborhoods. These were areas with a high amount of violent crime, but I didn't see any of that on the job. Evil was hard to find, but laziness and incompetence were everywhere.

Do you know how maddening it is to be at what should be a perfectly acceptable house, with a young adult (whose mother or grandmother was at work) complain about how the government isn't doing enough while his house is falling apart, and you notice things like a screw isn't tightened here, a nail needs to be pounded in there-- simple .... that would take a minute to take care of and you know it never will be.

Junk piled up everywhere, mold in places because plumbing was never fixed meanwhile you have young adults hanging around the neighborhood with expensive clothes drinking beer all day, ignoring available jobs within walking distance... I could go on and on. Rinse and repeat, every day, from Cincinnati to Cleveland.

I remember I dated a woman in the police academy at one time. This is actually a fascinating case study, and I did not fully grasp the implications at the time. Here we had a beautiful young woman who was a straight-A student who just graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an expensive college, very nice and soft-spoken girl, not the type you'd really expect to be a cop, but she really wanted to be one. She wanted to make a difference.

It seems like the social justice types would be quite optimistic about this particular police trainee:

- female
- 4.0 student, graduated from a respected university
- believes strongly in social justice
- genuinely nice, selfless person
- wants to be a cop even though she could easily get into a career that pays twice as much, because she wants to help the community

The fascinating part when she actually got a job as a police officer, and had to go out on calls. I will never forget how much she changed and how quickly she changed. I suppose growing up in a plush suburb and then having to deal with violence and nonsense every day will do that to a person. I'd say it took her about two weeks to go from being a SJW to sounding like a staunch right-winger, this after 17 years of K-12 and university education. Two weeks!

You talk about getting people to see things from others' points of view, and I think that is a good point. I have no issue with that being part of officers' training. Maybe it should even be a bigger part of their training, but it has to go both ways. You should also see things from an officer's point of view even if that conversation can be uncomfortable at times.

For the record, I got the same 'talk' that those three members got, and for the same reasons. I was reminded of it many times when I was younger. Whether or not I needed it as much as they did is another issue.

I will say that I knew people who looked like me who regularly had bad experiences with cops. They were the same ones who always got in trouble at school, and thought the teachers were out to get them.

And if any cadet loses his/her temper in any form, in any situation, during their police training they should be dismissed immediately.

This plan won't work because a Police officer has to make an arrest when he sees a crime and a Cadet has to stop the crime while summoning the Police.

They would be to busy to play and their cover would be instantly blown.
