j/c: The Houston Rockets' team just got really interesting. Sources: After Paul informed Clippers he'd sign w/ HOU in FA, teams agreed to deal sending Beverley, Decker, Williams and 2018 FRP for Paul. https://twitter.com/WojVerticalNBA/status/880088294700331008

Looks like Irving was almost a draft day trade. Reports were we were going to trade Irving to the Suns for Bledsoe and the 4th pick, and that pick would be traded to Pacers for George. That would have been an awesome deal for us. Much better than love for PG13 straight up. But I guess the reason it didn't go through was Gilbert approached Lebron for a commitment beyond next year and didn't get it so the deal died, I guess it was already in place. Not a big deal, but like I've said before, Lebron's wishy washy attitude really makes it hard to build longevity, he's every bit the problem the salary cap is. Assuming that's true, I'm not sure it matters what Lebron is doing after this next year. Sure, you're trading Kyrie's contract for George's 1-year contract, but George could leave even if Lebron extends. So, you're still left empty in either situation. I would have done the deal if you're thinking it's a one year shot at a title. Win, Lebron might stay. Lose, he's gone for sure.

I didn't see Irving attached to that trade at all. Love? Yes.

And the only way cavs would do that is if George extended, and the wheels on the bus..

Haven't we been down this street with Lebron before?
He did it before too, he wants the team to get better, but then ties there hands by refusing to commit, but then uses the team not getting better as an excuse to leave

CP3 to the Rockets makes NO sense.
Harden is a de facto Point Guard. He needs help, not someone else to hold the ball for him.
Add in the fact that Paul is now going from one of the slowest paced teams, to one of the fastest?
Eh.

I don't know anything about this deal but I know it was widely reported that before LeBron left the first time one of the reasons we had trouble getting marquee free agents here was they didn't get that commitment from LeBron that he was staying.

Gilbert needs to make sure he's making plans accordingly as to not be left holding the bag again.

Call me crazy, but I just don't see him leaving again. To have left the way he did, come back the way he did only to leave again even though he won one for us would still make his story have a head scratcher for an ending.

Leaving to ring chase does nothing for his legacy.
I don't think it "hurts" it. But it also doesn't help it.
Especially if he's going to "someone else's" team.. (Sup KD)
I wish they had made the trade. Kyrie was great in 2016. I know. And I'm not trying to be a victim of the moment. But dude was nowhere to be see except for maybe a game and a half this year. And yes Klay is a really good defender. But Kyrie is supposed to be one of if not the best at "getting a bucket". And he just didn't.
Bledsoe, George, James, Love would of been a REALLY good team.
And maybe we convince PG to stay with more money.
Bledsoe, George, and Love is still a pretty good team in the East.
Oh well.
(Side note: As it relates to this trade. I may of just kept the 4th pick and taken a young guy to groom for when James leaves)

Thanks for sharing. This is the only site I've seen this pop up where Kyrie was named...maybe there are more. I frequent HoopsHype a ton and they do a really good job aggregating twitter posts and rumors from around the league. I didn't see anything there either. So, yes, trade talks were very real with the Suns. That's all Vince's post confirms, really. I think that has been shared by multiple writers and analysts. I can't help but think Vince, who works for Cleveland Scene (not a sports publication), is regurgitating the fact that there were talks w/ Phoenix. Also, do we know the place/site that Vince is responding to in his tweet? I mean, it's a word document w/ spell check recommendations that he is sharing. Not saying it isn't true, it just doesn't have the same look/feel as normal rumors and reports. That's all.

Hey did you guys know every move Phil Jackson made in New York was brilliant. And only failed because of everyone else? Basically everything's Carmelo's fault... No, seriously...

The Wolves traded Ricky Rubio the the Jazz. That means George Hill will be on a different team. It also means the Wolves have a bunch of cap space. If they can get a guy like Kyle Lowry, I think they will be very good.

Looks like Rondo was waived, I would put the odds on Melo and Wade being bought out more than 50%, could be some moves to be had with wade and melo, since they already got paid and could afford to take a vet minimum deal for a year to chase a ring with lebron.

I have a feeling Wade and/or Melo will end up here. Maybe even George too. It's our last shot IMO.

Paul George traded to Thunder in stunning deal, according to reportThis is an absolute shock and leaves free agency picking up the pieces. by Tim Cato@tim_cato Jun 30, 2017, 9:48pm EDT In a stunning move that came out of absolutely nowhere, the Oklahoma City Thunder have traded for Paul George, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. For weeks, we’ve known that George’s time in Indiana was drawing to a close, but no one even knew the Thunder were on the market for a player like that. In the trade, George will go to Oklahoma City while Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis will head to Indiana. All along, the Pacers craved young talent, and Sabonis fits that build. Still, it’s shocking that Indiana pulled the trigger so soon and to a team that nobody had on their radar. What this trade does is shake up the landscape of the entire free agency picture. Boston wanted to trade for George if they signed Gordon Hayward, while the Cleveland Cavaliers still thought they might have a chance at him through a third team like Denver. The Wizards had been rumored for George as well, possibly dangling a young piece like Otto Porter Jr., and while Houston probably had the least to offer, it was reported that they also wanted to deal for the beleaguered star in Indiana. Instead, Oklahoma City struck first — hours before free agency officially begins — and have George on a one-year deal to pair with reigning MVP Russell Westbrook. If you didn’t love the NBA before, please reconsider. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/6/30/15907012/paul-george-thunder-free-agency-trade-wow-wow-wow

If we don't get melo, looks like we're gonna have pretty much the same squad against the warriors.
And that will most likely be another loss.

My 1st reaction was "That's all they got for Paul George?". It was my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and now 5th reaction as well. That's a great trade for OKC, and a pretty bad deal for Indiana. I am still in shock.

Heck of a move by OKC. They're much improved now.
Not sure, besides Melo or Wade, what else we can do now

I'm not sure I would want Melo. He's always been a selfish player. I think he's changed for the better the last couple of years, but I still wonder what he would do to our chemistry.

I'm not even sure if I'd want Oladipo at $21million/year let alone give up Paul George to get that contract, even if George was gone next year anyway. The Pacers could have done better. If nothing else, wait a little bit...

I would have definitely held on to George instead of making that trade. Oladipo's contract is crap.
Worst case scenario: you can just trade him for about the same deal in February

Most stuff this time of year just seems made up, and then when a deal actually happens, it's usually out of the blue ... Like the Thunder getting PG.

The Pacers were going to take less to avoid trading PG within the conference. Too bad.

teams like Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, etc have to be thrilled. They can make it to the ECF if they play their cards right

There really isn't that much of an urgency or pressure to make moves now that everyone is in the West. It's wild over there now. In the end, I'm glad it played out this way. I'm happy with the trio of James, Irving and Love. I didn't want to see it broken up for a rental and it would be tough getting rid of the contracts of Thompson, Smith and Shumpert. Add some bench players and focus on defense.

AP Source: Cavs offer guard Kyle Korver new contract CLEVELAND (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says the Cleveland Cavaliers have offered free agent Kyle Korver a new contract. The person says the expected move came after the free agency negotiating period opened at 12:01 a.m. Saturday. The person spoke to The Associated Press Saturday on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced. Korver made $5.2 million last season. He joined the Cavs midway through last season, coming over in a trade from Atlanta. He is one of the league’s best outside shooters is expected to draw interest from other teams but the 36-year-old has expressed a desire to stay with Cleveland after making it to his first NBA Finals. Korver led the league in 3-point percentage (45) and averaged 10.8 points in 35 games for the Cavs. https://apnews.com/58b07ad13ef04706a6e06ffd670cabcfI'm good with this. He played like crap down the stretch but I don't think that is indicative of his production capabilities. I'll assume its a 1 or 2-year deal.

Report: Cavaliers, Randolph have mutual interest https://www.thescore.com/news/1327584The Cleveland Cavaliers aren't likely to make a massive free-agent acquisition with Paul George now in Oklahoma City and Gordon Hayward being aggressively courted by other organizations. But that doesn't mean the Cavs' roster won't undergo a few changes in what has become one of the NBA's craziest offseasons in recent memory. Veteran power forward Zach Randolph is one of Cleveland's targets, and Z-Bo is interested in the fit as well, a league source told Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com. Despite being 35 years old with 17 NBA seasons under his belt, Randolph averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 boards in 24 minutes off the bench last season with the Memphis Grizzlies. He would offer a more prototypical power forward body behind Kevin Love rather than current stretch-fours Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson.
