Zach Randolph:

35 years old scares me.

Coming off the bench does not.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Randolph off the bench has been nice for Memphis. I'm sure he can be just as effective here, or he'll, maybe even a tad bit better.

Randolph is that physical guy we need.. I like his game and can't be any worse than the scrubs we had on the bench last year

did we have anybody who actually played in the post consistently off the bench last year?

That's a lot of points and rebounds to be adding per game.

But what is being subtracted? Whose minutes does he replace? Whose touches does he replace? Is he taking minutes/touches away from Love? TT? It's all dependent and relative.

In a vacuum, yes, he's someone I'd like. I'd like to see how we'll use him though and what personnel we add/subtract

I wouldn't be upset if he took minutes away from TT.

I followed the link to the list, because I was curious as to who the players were .... and both Lebron and Kyrie are in the top 14.

Did we lose one of them, or are the media types already planning ahead for us to lose one of them?

James Jones could be let go, he didn't come into any game I watched until we were either so far behind it didn't matter, Dahnte Jones I don't think saw more than a minute or two all year, but he was a fiery bench presence, I imagine he'd be a good guy to have in the locker room.

There are other guys that hardly saw the floor also, that could be let go to make room for him.

I really hope that happens.

Z Bo vs. Draymond (in a game that matters) is a thing I need to see.

looks like Shump will be gone for a trade exception

I don't think I'd miss Shump too much, he was pretty good from 3 pt range during the regular season, but JR, if he could get a little tougher between the ears, is an asset from long range coming off the bench.

Jose Calderon Agrees to Contract
Free-agent point guard Jose Calderon and the Cleveland Cavaliers agreed on a contract Saturday, representatives at his agency confirmed on Twitter.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Calderon, 35, spent the 2016-17 season split between the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. In 41 total appearances, including 13 starts, the Spaniard averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 assists per game on 41.0 percent shooting from the field, including 31.3 percent from three.

Does this mean we are not keeping DWill? I'd rather have DWill than Jose.

Which DWill? Wasn't all that impressed with Derron, would've liked to see more Derrick Williams down the stretch. He was pretty good from 3 pt. range when he was subbing for Love after his surgery.

Derron will most likely be gone now. It looks like the plan is to sign Calderone, trade Shump for an exception, and use that exception for another piece. That's about all we can do.

looks like lebron isn't trying to recruit or help recruit FA's either..I think the writing is on the wall for him leaving next year. He just won't come out an say it until we lose again in playoffs..I'd seriously consider trading him. Not because he sucks but just to make sure we don't get caught holding the bag, especially when our situation is a direct result of his wishy washy noncommittal attitude. We have no flexibility because of contracts he urged the FO to give out. Gilbert has spent till it hurt, not sure what else you can ask for. Going to be interesting if we somehow land Melo and/or Wade.

Gilbert is dumb to fire, dumb to think someone without experience is a good fit, and even dumber for not having a replacement during a key part of the league.

I meant Derron. I thought I didn't have to clarify because Calderon is also a PG.

I wouldn't have known the unless you told me brother, I like watching the Cavs play, I can barely tell you what positions they play and I certainly don't know who plays what on any other teams. thumbsup

Report: Kyle Korver re-signs with Cavaliers
https://www.thescore.com/news/1328125

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Kyle Korver have reportedly agreed on a three-year, $22-million contract, league sources told Shams Charania of The Vertical.

well, after this year it doesn't much matter. If LBJ leaves the band is dead anyways.

Honestly tho.

What are you ganna get for him.

Not in a sense of he's not "LeBron James"

But I just spent like 10 mins looking around on the trade machine.

No one has anyone. Players wise. That would make sense to either give up, or for us to take.

The only thing that made "sense" was LBJ for Melo and Porzingas. And I'd assume Melos NTC would stop that. If NY would even do it (they totally would)

Beyond that you'd just end up dumping him for future draft picks that would end up either being in the 20s or not until 2022...

I think we need to stop with this idea that the Cavs and the NBA come to a screeching halt when LeBron leaves. We've got one more year of most likely winning the East. Then let's see what happens.

"No sense worrying about what you have no control over, because you have no control over it, so no sense worrying about it.."

Glad to see him coming back. Some people need to understand the situation the Cavaliers are in with regard to the cap. They can only offer a player from outside the team the taxpayer mid-level exemption. ($5.1 million) The Cavaliers held Korver's Bird rights, so they were able to go over the cap to retain him. They can't do that with other guys.

Korver basically got just under the non-taxpayer mid-level. (which will be roughly $8.4 million/year) He took a slight discount to stay.

Yep, we are so strapped financially that we can only use the MLE or the trade exception basically ... we really can't just sign a FA

Maybe so. The one thing about set shooters is they don't really lose that ability. Larry Bird can probably still drain 3's when just shooting around. It's not like Korver relies on weaving his way to the rim. I'd say we were in a position where we had to sign him because we really couldn't sign anybody else. At least he spreads the floor a bit and gives us a deep option.

What this team really needs is D. We don't give effort on the defensive end. I think Fratello is still living in the Cleveland area. Maybe bring him in during camp to teach some D to these guys. His teams were always solid on D.

Without Lebron, Cleveland becomes basketball Siberia again. The same can be said for ~12 teams in the league though.

Without LeBron the NBA becomes Siberia. LBJ has been the 1st through 5th best basketball player every season since he's entered. There's been transcendent talent since LBJ, but not talent that's been on the same level. Early Melo, prime DWade, Magic/Roided Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant are really the only players I can think of who have pushed the game forward in ways LBJ didn't.

looks like Billups turned down the offer, in large part of Lebron supposedly leaving in 2018, since Billups and Lebron are close, all signs are pointing that way.. No big loss though, Billups is a nobody and I def. wouldn't want him running the team

You wouldn't say the large part is that ESPN paid Billups more than Gilbert was going to?

not what reports are saying, and if so...why even put your name in the hat...he wants to be a FO guy.

it looks like we have one more year of basketball relevance in cleveland history ... hopefully we can add some sort of piece to make us more competitive against GS. not sure if we can, but at this time next year this team will be dismantled

If the pieces we had last year played a full series even close to their potential that series would of been competitive.

I'd go as far as to say we could of won it.
