Trump enters Charlie Gard debate: 'We would be delighted' to help

The plight of Charlie Gard – the brain-damaged British baby whose parents recently lost a legal battle to keep him on life support – has now tugged at heart strings as far away as the Oval Office.

President Trump on Monday tweeted his willingness to lend a hand – and in doing so exposed the debate over who should make life-and-death decisions for Charlie to a massive audience.

“If we can help little #CharlieGard, as per our friends in the U.K. and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so,” Trump wrote.

https://www.axios.com/angela-merkels-party-no-longer-calls-u-s-a-friend-2452661546.html

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's political party — the Christian Democratic Union — no longer refers to the United States as Germany's "friend" in its election materials ahead of September's vote, a change from four years ago, per Reuters.
The change: In 2013, the CDU called the U.S. Germany's "most important friend" outside of Europe, branding the U.S.-German relationship a "cornerstone" of its foreign policy. However, this year, Merkel's party simply says the U.S. is Germany's "most important partner" outside of Europe.
Why it matters: It's a small change, but it's not a subtle one. Merkel has been very clear over the past few months that Europe can no longer rely on a United States led by President Trump. An oft-repeated line from some of her recent speeches: "Europeans must take our fate into our own hands."

More failures from the Tweeter of the United States.

Is that the same Germany that is way behind on its NATO payments by not throwing in its 2 percent as agreed too, was instrumental in pushing the EU into its no borders policy that has ruined Europe, and has a tens of billions dollars trade imbalance with the US?

With friends like that, who need enemies?

It's called common sense. Trump has helped divide the friendship between us and Germany. Any time that Putin can get his enemies to further divide their alliances, it help strengthen him. You don't need a link to do simple math.

Maybe after the next 3.5 years of poor leadership, Trump will have gifted Syria and Ukraine back to Russia.

Common Sense dictates that Trump has called a friend on owing us money, not living up to our deal and taking advantage of us financially.

If we are to remain friends, we must put this resentment behind us. Then we will end up being better friends.

Your common sense doesn't apply to international politics. Whether you like it or not, you cannot run the world like it's a dive bar. Also, Germany's ruling party just told us that we aren't 'friends' because of Trump's horrible foreign relationship.

Oh, that is different, they don't want to be our friends unless we allow them to take advantage of us.

Like Trump has already said, "Every Nation has the right to run their country the way they want to."

Do you have a LINK to what you say that I may read more about it?

daddy is growing impatient with you, Trump. too bad he doesn't have support of congress, as they went ahead with their own sanctions against Russia.

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/03/us-stocks-second-half-banks-tech.html

Quote:
Dow jumps 130 points, hits all-time high as second half of year begins

U.S. equities kicked off the second half of the year on the right foot, closing mostly higher on Monday as bank stocks climbed.

The Dow Jones industrial average notched a record high before closing about 130 points higher, with Goldman Sachs contributing the most gains. The S&P 500 rose 0.23 percent, with financials and energy leading advancers. The Nasdaq composite lagged, trading 0.5 percent lower.

"You're still seeing money coming out of tech and into financials," said Marc Chaikin, CEO of Chaikin Analytics. "The rally in financials has real legs."

Shares of Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Citgroup all rose in early trade. The big bank stocks are coming off a strong week, with the SPDR S&P Bank exchange-traded fund (KBE) surging 3.82 percent after positive results from the Federal Reserve's annual stress test.

"There's new leadership emerging in the market," said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at First Standard Financial. "That should keep us from faltering during the summer months."

Energy stocks also caught a bid, with the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) advancing 1.9 percent.

Stocks posted a strong first-half performance, led largely by the technology sector. But tech ended the first half on a sour note, with the Technolgy Select Sector Fund (XLK) sliding 2.81 percent last week.

But Dave Haviland, managing partner at Beaumont Capital Management, said it's too early to worry about the stock market. "If you have a market that's giving you new highs every month, then you take what the market gives you, until the overall trend turns negative," he said.

Monday also marked the start of a shortened trading week. The New York Stock Exchange closed at 1 p.m. Monday and will be closed Tuesday because of the Fourth of July holiday.

July 3 has historically been a strong day for stocks, according to data from Bespoke Investment Group. Since 1928, the S&P 500 has averaged a one-day change of positive 0.5 percent, with positive returns nearly 73 percent of the time.

That said, Wall Street digested key data, including the IHS Markit U.S. Manufacturing PMI index for June, which slipped to 52.0 from 52.7 in May.

Other data set for released Monday included the ISM manufacturing index for June, which rose to 57.8 from 54.9 in May. Monthly auto sales numbers will also be rolled out throughout the day.

Later this week, the Federal Reserve will release the minutes from its June meeting and the Bureau of Labor Statistics is scheduled to release its monthly jobs report Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 129.64 points, or 0.61 percent, to close at 21,479.27, with Goldman Sachs leading advancers and Microsoft lagging.

The S&P 500 gained 5.61 points, or 0.23 percent, to end at 2,429.02, with energy leading seven sectors higher and information technology underperforming.

The Nasdaq fell 30.36 points, or 0.49 percent, to close at 6,110.06.

About three stocks advanced for every decliner at the New York Stock Exchange, with an exchange volume of 492.05 million and a composite volume of 3.794 billion at the close.

The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, traded near 11.2.

Frankly I don't see the value in a having a 'friendship' with someone who has no care for the thousands of German women who've been raped and otherwise sexually assaulted by refugees/immigrants as a result of HER foreign policy.

She still would've lost.

You're underestimating the power trump had manipulating his voter base.

No matter what she said or believed, all the trumpians would've thought of was "pocohantas" and completely blew her off no matter what she would've said on the debate stage.

Whatever happened to the 'Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country' philosophy of the last great Democrat?

People nowadays want their country to do everything for them while doing absolutely nothing for their country.

Look at Alabama reinstating the work requirement to qualify for food stamps.

rofl Ewww boy. You can't get affordable health care, even after giving the US military 20 years.

As it stands with ObamaCare....Veterans who qualify for Veterans Administration health care (not all do) but aren’t enrolled in the system are eligible for subsidized premiums — allowing these veterans to choose between VA health care or subsidized private insurance.

Under the proposed GOP "Trumpcare" they treat Veterans the same as everyone else. So unless they change the Bill in the senate again, veterans are going to lose subsidized premiums and will go back to the VA for care. Oh Joy!

Sure we have...It's ok now for multiple bankruptcies to protect thy self while having other peoples money pay the bills owed. It's ok now to stiff others on services rendered. It's ok to open a unaccredited learning center or College that prays on students and parents for money and teaches nothing of any substance. It's ok to jack up the prices 500% for life saving medicines that only the rich can afford while screwing the poor, and elderly.

Yeah Gimme Gimme is the GOP thing alright.
