Well it is all booked! I am coming to Cleveland. I fly in on 7th September and leave on the 17th. I get to see the 2 opening games at CBS against the Steelers and the Bengals (I am so buzzed!!!) I have booked the Holiday Inn Downtown Cleveland so there should be plenty to do during my stay (I am coming alone!) Looking forward to tailgating at DTI and putting a face to all the names I have become familiar with throughout my 4 years on this and the previous Dawgtalk Board. See you soon

I pray you don't have to witness a 30-0 thumping like I did.
I will go to another game this year (prefferably one I think we can win). I pray we win, or least make a good game of it for you friend.

Nice!
I think you'll like that Gateway neighborhood - lots of bars! Are you doing an Indians game too?
Being that we get a lot of the "where to stay, what to do" type threads from visitors, I came up with this the other day, posted it in Browns Chat. May or may not help you out.
Hotels: The closest hotel to Browns Stadium is the Marriott at Key Tower, which is about a 1/3 mile walk to the stadium, and runs about $130 a night. It is also the closest hotel (along with the Renaissance and Ritz, which are both a bit more pricey) to the city’s Warehouse District – a collection of higher end restaurants and bars.
The Crowne Plaza on St. Clair, Holiday Inn on Lakeside, and Hampton Inn on E. 9th St. are the next closest, between about a .4-.5 mile walk to the stadium…however all are within a ¼ mile walk to the Muni Lot, Cleveland’s mecca for tailgating.
Next are the “Gateway” hotels – the Radisson on Huron, Holiday Inn on Euclid, and Residence Inn on Prospect. All would be great spots if A) You’re combining a Browns game with an Indians or Cavs game (since the Jake and The Q are both in this area), or B) the whole Warehouse District vibe isn’t your cup of tea, per say. These hotels are all about a ¾ to a mile walk to the Stadium or the Muni Lot.
If you’re going to stay the night, choose one of the above hotels, located downtown, rather than try and save a few dollars by staying out of the city. Downtown hotel rates in Cleveland are reasonable, and everything in the city is within walking distance, or literally a $3-4 cab ride.
Warehouse District vs. Gateway: As stated earlier, the Warehouse District in downtown Cleveland is home to the more upscale or higher end restaurants, clubs, and bars downtown. The types of bars and clubs people will dress up to attend, don’t start getting packed until after 10pm, cover charges, etc, etc. Don’t get me wrong, there is a Panini’s on W. 6th St, Johnny’s Little Bar on Franklin, and the Dive Bar and Blind Pig on W. 6th which are a bit more casual, but the area in general is a bit higher end.
With that said, there are some excellent restaurants in this district – let’s start with a row on W. 9th all owned by the same guy, and my personal favorite(s) – Mallorca, Sunset Lounge, and Brasa Grille. Mallorca is Spanish/Portugeuse cuisine (seafood, chicken, veal, steaks --- along with some wilder specials – bison, ostrich, or venison, rabbit, 32 oz stuffed lobster, etc.). Excellent sangria with your meal, and you get a complimentary shot of almond liqueur when you’re done with your meal. Sunset Lounge is next door – more of a sushi/martini bar cousin to Mallorca. Brasa Grille is a Brazilian steakhouse about a block down – unlimited salad/sushi bar, plus all you can eat meat freshly shaved from skewers – 16 different kinds (parmesan crusted filet is the best IMHO) for $35/person.
You’ve additionally got John Q’s, XO and the Cleveland Chophouse & Brewery for steaks, Sushi Rock for sushi/Japanese, The Blue Point Grille for seafood, Osteria for Italian, and Johnny’s (fine dining, little bit of everything). There are some others that I won’t mention do to ****-poor experiences on multiple occasions.
Then there is the Gateway District, which is a bit more casual. There is still some fine dining places – Lola, with famed chef Michael Simon, and Vivo. There’s also Pickwick and Frolic which is a martini bar/restaurant/comedy club all-in-one complex (separate areas in the same building). House of Blues is located here is well, as is Flannery’s (Irish bar & restaurant), Fat Fish Blue (Cajun/jazz), and sports bars such as Harry Buffalo, Panini’s, The Winking Lizard, The Clevelander, The Boneyard, Cleats (very small), and Local Heroes (formerly Cooperstown). There’s also the Corner Alley, which is kind of a higher end bowling alley.
Other restaurants and bars that would require car or cab: “Ohio City” – the area by the West Side Market just west of downtown has some cool restaurants and bars. Try out the Great Lakes Brewery or Hecks Café for food, and the Garage Bar for drinks. There’s also Tremont (Christmas Story House area) – just southwest of downtown. Lots of fine dining here – Parallax (seafood), Fahrenheit, and Lolita for fine dining, and the Treehouse or Southside bar for drinks. If you want to get plowed with a general 23-30 year-old casual, young-professionals-who-like-to-drink type crowd, tell a cabbie to drop you off at either Johnny Malloys or Around the Corner on Detroit Rd. in Lakewood, and try stumbling the mile or so that separates the two. $2-3 beers and great bar food on this strip --- Panini’s, McCarthey’s, The Drink, Kenilworth, Put-in-Bay Bar, Harry Buffalo, West End are some others in the 1 mile stretch, just to name a few.
Tailgating: Not going to mention any other lot than the Muni Lot. It is located off of the Rt. 2 exit ramp, from E. 9th St. – diagonal from the Rock Hall. Cost is $15 to park – need to get in there by 7-7:30am for the opener, 8-8:30am for all other games. The place fills up quick. If that is too early for you, I hear there’s some lots around W. 3rd that are more for the casual tailgater.

On top of it all I had to deal with rude comments on it when I was upset about it

Last year the hard part was that like 10 of my freinds from college and high school weren't letting me leave when I got there i was rushing around trying to find it.
I literally walked that lot 2 and a half times before I said F- it.
I should probably try to find it sober next time.

Glad you will be making the trip. I will be up for the opener and will be doing the DTI thing myself. I will probably cook up some Cajun shrimp....you qualify as a out of towner...so if jumbo shrimp is your deal, I will have enough to share for sure. my wife will enjoy talking to you....she spent several years in High Wickham...sorry if the spelling is a bit(or alot)off.

If you're talking about single game tickets, I'm pretty sure they go on sale July 21st...

As a season ticket holder I have been given a pre-sale code that allows me to buy tickets a day or two before the 21st for friends and family....at least it has been that way in the past.

This was the first year I've had my own PSL's and tickets so that would be nice to get some more tickets, at least for the opener. I did see on the Browns homepage that there is a presale party at the stadium the day before the single tickets are supposed to go on sale...

Have a safe trip, Pauly! I am trying to make it too.
Cleveland is a beautiful city, IMO. You MUST check out the USS Cod. It's an old submarine, sits on the lake down from the Rock and Roll HOF. Good times!

Thanks for all the replies! some really good useful info there! I just had the confirmation through the flight cost me $670 and the hotel $1,150 - I am gonna make it a week to remember you can count on that! Beerdowner - If the offer still stands I would love to use your gym (no matter how I type this it sounds strange!!??) I take it you will be at DTI? Peen that shrimp sounds very good atomic - I will see what I can do with those capuccino bars I am like a spoilt kid at the moment - counting down the days to the start of the season - my mates are like your going where? to watch what!? Once again thanks to you all for your advice and tips on my stay - it will be great to see you all.

ED....here is a link to some of the hotels and such in Cleveland. http://www.travelcleveland.com/visiting/accommodations/listing.details.php?category=3322&id=3303You may want to check around and actually call some of the hotels....you may be able to find a better long stay rate if you call and talk to the mgr in charge of sales. Also...are you staying at the Holiday Inn lakeside or the Holiday Inn Express?? Both are downtown in case you didn't know so there isn't any confusion. You might spend a few bucks on long distance phone rates, but you might be able to save a few bucks by making some calls.
