Trump Jr. emails trigger knee-jerk drop in stock market by Matt Egan @mattmegan5 July 11, 2017: 3:07 PM ET Market analyst on stock drop after Trump Jr. emails Market analyst on stock drop after Trump Jr. emails Donald Trump Jr. moved the markets.
Within a half-hour after President Trump's eldest son released an email chain on his meeting with a "Russian government attorney," the Dow dropped about 150 points.
The knee-jerk reaction was noticeable, but modest. It represented a decline of just 0.7%. That's hardly a freakout by Wall Street's standards.
It was also brief. The market quickly recovered nearly all its losses.
"Jr.'s email release at the very least got the markets concerned that the policy agenda might get pushed out a bit," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at Wunderlich Securities. dow trump jr emails

Stocks have rallied dramatically since Trump was elected, driven by hopes for dramatic tax cuts, deregulation and infrastructure spending. But Trump has had little legislative success -- and the repeated controversies over Russia's meddling in the election haven't helped.
Trump Jr. released a chain of emails showing that last summer he agreed to meet with a "Russian government attorney" who supposedly had "very high level and sensitive information" that would "incriminate" Hillary Clinton.
The emails were released at 11 a.m., just before The New York Times published a story about them. By 11:27, the Dow had fallen to 21,285, a decline of 152 points from when the emails were put out. By noon, the Dow had rebounded back to 21,405.
Who said markets are fickle?

The Trump Jr. emails also caused a modest negative reaction in other markets. Gold prices rose 0.5% before retreating a bit, signaling a note of caution but not outright panic. CNNMoney's Fear & Greed Index of market sentiment also flipped into "fear" mode, compared with "neutral" on Monday.
The White House was asked about the brief market retreat during Tuesday's press briefing. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the deputy White House press secretary, said Trump remains "focused on doing everything he can to strengthen the economy."
The response on Wall Street underscores how much investors are paying attention to the political turmoil in Washington.
Market veterans said it would be wise to tune out the "House of Cards"-like drama and focus instead on the fundamentals: earnings and the economy. Thankfully, both look relatively strong these days, helping to keep the Trump rally alive and kicking.
"No matter what is tweeted out, if companies are reporting strong earnings, that overwhelmingly matters more than any message coming out of Washington," said Andres Garcia-Amaya, global market strategist at Zoe Financial, an independent wealth management firm.
Psst ... the market ended the day up from where it began ...
There's a bigger problem with the market that not many are paying attention to .. and none on here more than likely have any clue about ...
Wait til they talk business again .. its like business 100 at best .. novice hour ... ... i read it for the laughs and hand out who made the most naive post awards ... maybe i should start making them public ..
Donald Trump Jr. posted his full exchange with a publicist for a Russian pop musician to Twitter on Tuesday, and the emails confirm previous reports that Trump Jr. was offered compromising information about Hillary Clinton specifically from the Russian government. The emails also say flatly that the Kremlin was working to help elect his father — claims which Trump Jr., his father and the White House would deny for months afterward.
Some have suggested that they represent a smoking gun when it comes to collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign. The White House denies there was any collusion.

Good morning
Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting.
The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.
This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump – helped along by Aras and Emin.
What do you think is the best way to handle this information and would you be able to speak to Emin about it directly?
I can also send this info to your father via Rhona, but it is ultra sensitive so wanted to send to you first.

Wouldn't have been nice if Hillary would have disclosed all of her emails when she was investigated.
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money." Margarat Thatcher
Wow, talk about shooting yourself in the foot...Mueller was NOT aware of these emails, but now that they have been made public, he will now add this to his investigation.
CNN: Mueller Didn’t Know About Trump Jr. Emails But Will Now Look Into Them
By ALLEGRA KIRKLAND Published JULY 11, 2017 6:15 PM link
Donald Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer is officially part of the special counsel investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, CNN reported Tuesday.
Three U.S. officials familiar with the investigation told the network that special counsel Robert Mueller’s team only recently learned about the meeting, which Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, divulged on his recently amended application for a security clearance.
A separate U.S. official briefed on the matter told CNN that federal investigators will look into the sit-down that the President’s son agreed to have with an individual described by an acquaintance in an email as “a Russian government attorney” who had “high level and sensitive information” that would “incriminate” Hillary Clinton.
“I love it,” Trump Jr. replied in one of a series of bombshell of emails detailing the lead-up to that meeting, which he published in full on Twitter on Tuesday to the shock of the political world.
Both the emails and the meeting are now part of Mueller’s investigation, a source told CNN.
Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort confirmed their attendance at the Trump Tower sit-down to The New York Times, but did not answer additional questions about it.
Russian Meddling in our election process may not have physically changed votes, it may have caused people to change from Hillary to Donald.
I can't fathom a person that would have changed from one to the other, far more likely that Hillary voters just didn't vote at all or voted 3rd party after all of the negative press.. but I can't imagine somebody thinking they were voting for Hillary one day, seeing some negative press, then deciding to vote for Trump... I guess it's possible.
Quote:
But you can't tell me you are ok with Russia messing with our election. Can you?
I'm not ok with it. Unfortunately we live in a world with less and less respect and fewer and fewer boundaries of what people think is "ok".... Countries have tried to influence elections in other countries for many decades but it used to be a slow laborious process of trying to influence people one at a time and had very minimal results... now with the internet, hack somebody to get some dirt or just cook up a fake news story and send it to hundreds of millions of people in an instant.. as we all know, even if it is later proved to be not true, once it's out there, it will be repeated in public circles forever...
Memes on Facebook, Political Advertising and one after another republican coming out in favor of Trump and against Clinton didn't change any minds?
really?
I'm very glad to see you are against foreign powers meddling with our elections.
But the rest of what you wrote reminds me of the little boy that said, I didn't do it,,, Wait, I did do it but it wasn't what you think,,, wait I did do it, it was what you were thinking but it turned out to be nothing at all..
Oh wait, that's what just happened with Jr.
I think it was swish that asked a pretty good question.
If I attempt to murder someone but fail, am I guilty of anything?
Regardless of if this happened today, or if it happened 100 years ago, yes, it's a crime.

If I send you an email saying let's meet to discuss killing Hillary and talk about anything other than killing Hillary in the meeting, what am I guilty of?
If I attempt to murder someone but fail, am I guilty of anything?
If I send you an email saying let's meet to discuss killing Hillary and talk about anything other than killing Hillary in the meeting, what am I guilty of?
If you sent that email, IMO, you are guilty of intent or conspiracy to commit murder.
But that's not what we have here. We have the Candidates (at that time)Son and Team leaders agreeing to meet with a foreign power to discuss committing murder. (I know, not really murder)
What Jr should have done is report it immediately to the proper authorities. But he didn't, then last July, when asked, denied any meetings with Russians, then last saturday, the NYT reported such contact, he lied about it, then lied again then finally, because he was backed into a corner, he released the emails.
Those aren't the actions of an innocent person.
But, at the time, he was a private citizen (still is) but Manafort and Kushner weren't. Both were heavily involved with the Trump Campaign. They weren't private citizens then.
One might make the case that kushner wasn't experienced in the way of the political world. I could buy that to an extent. But if he wasn't blinded by the need to find dirt on HRC, maybe he'd have seen it for what it was and called attention to it to the appropriate agencies (FBI). Let me say this, Kushner is supposed to be a very bright guy. Everything I've seen makes it seem that way to me anyway. So you'd think he'd have figured it out.
But you can't even try to say the same thing about Manafort. he's been involved in politics for something over 30 years. He doesn't have an excuse. he absolutely should have known meeting with a Russian envoy for the reasons stated in the email to JR was a No No. Actually, given the state of affairs, he should not have met with anyone from Russia.
That was just stupid.
Are they guilty? Of at least poor judgement, you bet. no question about it in my mind.
Did they break any laws? hell if I know. I'm not a lawyer.
But I do believe they need investigated for it. There is NO QUESTION IN MY MIND about that.

So competence and intellegence by the vitriolic left is accepting rigged elections by the media and liberals, BILL CLINTON giving speeches in RUSSIA for obsene money, selling uranium to RUSSIANS for financial gain while sec. of state ,Chelsea earning 30 million from the CLINTON, Help The Children Fund ,and her "deplorable" remark . THATS what cost her election ,the amateur hour is that the Libs actually blame TRUMP and RUSSIA for her loss , and the 30 thou. E-mails by the way
If you sent that email, IMO, you are guilty of intent or conspiracy to commit murder.
You have absolutely no proof to back that up. Saying I want a face to face meeting to discuss killing Hillary in an email is not proof of anything. The words 'killing Hillary' can mean anything; her career, murder, her platform etc... If you discuss in the meeting the details of killing Hillary, now we have proof if witnesses or recordings are in evidence. (really can't believe I'm discussing this basic crap)

I agree...guilty of ignorance but no laws. I listened to Jr on Hannity last night. If he testifies like he explained in the interview, Kushner and Manafort corroborates then you have NOTHING.
The title doesn't imply that. The title plainly states that Jr., Manafort, and Kushner were going to get offered intelligence, as offered by the Russian government lawyers, that would help Trump.

This is collusion.
Lol, that's a stretch. I don't see how simply taking a meeting to get some opposition research could be considered collusion. If Jr. would have taken an active part in creating or disseminating the information, or offered something of value in return, you might have a better case.
And regardless of what one email said, the lawyer they met with was not part of the Russian government.

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson.
Donald Trump Jr. acknowledged in an exclusive interview with Fox News' "Hannity" Tuesday night that he "probably would have done things a little differently" when he met with a Russian attorney during his father’s presidential campaign in June 2016.
"This [was] pre-Russia fever. This [was] pre-Russia mania," Trump Jr. told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "I don’t think my sirens went [off] or my antenna went up at this time because it wasn’t the issue that it’s been made out to be over the last nine months, ten months."
However, the president’s eldest son also described the meeting as "a nothing," adding, "I wouldn’t have even remembered it until you started scouring through this stuff. It was literally just a wasted 20 minutes, which was a shame."
The interview constituted the first public statement by Donald Trump Jr. since he posted what he called "the entire email chain" of his conversations with music publicist Rob Goldstone setting up the June 2016 meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya on Twitter.
In one of the messages, Goldstone told Trump Jr. that Russian officials were offering "some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary [Clinton]" as part of "Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump."
Trump Jr.’s response email read, in part, "if it’s what you say I love it."
"I had been reading about scandals that people were probably underreporting for a long time, so maybe it was something that had to do with one of those things," Trump Jr. told Hannity when asked about his reaction to Goldstone’s email. "I didn’t know if there was any credibility, I didn’t know if there was anything behind it, I can’t vouch for the information. Someone sent me an email. I can’t help what someone sends me. I read it, I responded accordingly."
Trump Jr. posted the messages in the wake of a series of New York Times reports that revealed more details of the meeting with Veselnitskaya, which was also attended by Paul Manafort, Trump’s then-campaign manager, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser.
"For me this was opposition research," Trump Jr. said. "They had something, you know, maybe concrete evidence to all the stories I’d been hearing about … so I think I wanted to hear it out. But really it went nowhere and it was apparent that wasn’t what the meeting was about."
Trump Jr. said that Goldstone apologized to him for wasting his time after the meeting, which lasted approximately 20 minutes.
"I think what happened [is] he sort of goosed up, he built up, there was some puffery to the email, perhaps to get the meeting, to make it happen," Trump Jr. said. "In the end, there was probably some bait-and-switch about what it was really supposed to be about."
The Times claimed that Trump Jr. tweeted images of the emails after "he was told NYT was about to publish the contents of the emails."
Veselnitskaya, who Trump Jr. denied knowing prior to the meeting, told NBC News Tuesday morning that she did not have "any damaging or sensitive information about Hillary Clinton," adding, "It was never my intention to have that."
When Trump Jr. was asked for his reaction to Veselnitskaya's interview, he said he was "a little taken aback by her talking about me pressing for the information, but as you can see from the emails, the pretext of the meeting was, 'Hey, we have information.'"
The emails between Trump Jr. and Goldstone contain no evidence that the president’s son was informed of the larger alleged Russian effort to meddle in the U.S. presidential election.
On Tuesday afternoon, President Trump issued a statement supporting his son’s decision to make the email chain public, calling Trump Jr. "a high-quality person" and adding "I applaud his transparency." The president’s outside legal counsel has repeatedly denied that the elder Trump knew about or attended the meeting.
In his interview Tuesday evening, Trump Jr. also denied telling his father about the Veselnitskaya meeting, saying, "There was nothing to tell."
"I think in the grand scheme of the hysteria that’s been talked about over the last eight, nine, ten months with Russia, things are probably different than they were 13 months ago," Trump Jr. concluded. "In retrospect, I know more now, but hindsight’s always 20-20."
You convineitly continue to ignore Manafort and Kushner showing up to this meeting.
They were offered info, and only thing they had to do was meet.
That's an exchange.
I really thought that after a year of pushing this story heavily, you would come up with more than this. Figure that one email (which was received, not sent, by Jr.) will keep this story afloat for another few weeks. After that you're going to have to come up with more. Maybe Mueller or the FBI will deliver?
Intent was established, and members from the Trump campaign bought it.
Facts are facts.
Not really. You have no idea what Jr. would have done with the information he would have received. How do you know he wouldn't have turned it over to the authorities or something along those lines? At the end of the day, he never actually received anything of value so we can't really pretend to know what he would have done with it had he received it. Your assumption that it would have been used for nefarious purposes is not good enough.
edit: if it was meant as political opposition research, maybe even that would have been ok? That is something for the lawyers to figure out.

They've all been caught in lies and now it's full damage control again with more lies and the GOP surrogates on capitol hill and everywhere else spin the story to fit the lies.
The Guccifer 2.0 DNC hack and the Wikileaks/Podesta emails were separate matters. Linking the two together is a common misconception.
edit: As I recall, Wikileaks had nothing to do with the Guccifer 2.0 stuff? That was released on a different website. Wikileaks had some commentary about it after the fact.

BS! Get your facts straight.
The 2016 Democratic National Committee email leak is a collection of Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails leaked to and subsequently published by WikiLeaks on July 22, 2016. This collection included 19,252 emails and 8,034 attachments from the DNC, the governing body of the United States' Democratic Party. The leak includes emails from seven key DNC staff members, and date from January 2015 to May 2016.
WikiLeaks did not reveal its source; a self-styled hacker going by the moniker Guccifer 2.0 claimed responsibility for the attack.

Bull, the email talking about how to commit murder is the proof.

Are they guilty? Of at least poor judgement, you bet. no question about it in my mind.
I agree...guilty of ignorance but no laws. I listened to Jr on Hannity last night. If he testifies like he explained in the interview, Kushner and Manafort corroborates then you have NOTHING.
We agree on the ignorance part for sure. But go back and look at what I said.. I said I wasn't sure if laws were broken... I'm not a lawyer.
You just want to argue a point that doesn't need argued.
He got an emailk from someone supposedly speaking for a foreign govern,e3nt, he responded in the affirmative to that email, he included Manafort and Kushner.
That was at least ignorant and stupid and it MAY have been illegal. We'll need to see.
I assume you aren't saying we shouldn't investigate this.. Or are you?
Oh,, and the hannity interview was softball.. Mueller and the FBI and Senate will not be playing softball with him.. That kid will fold like a cheap suit.
