Coal industry is dying because of the market. It is. The point is, let it die of natural causes instead of being euthanized by the government. If trump doesn't want the market to allow coal to die, then there's some other industries that need some help, too. This always seemed like a bit of a contradiction to me with the millennials.. the complain that there aren't any jobs, yet retail causes jobs in real estate, development, construction, management, sales, maintenance, etc.. but, for their own convenience, they would rather order everything on-line.. which supports warehouse jobs and delivery jobs.. leaving shopping centers vacant.. yet at the same time, they rail against Walmart for killing the downtown and the local stores.. I have to admit I find it kind of confusing. Thats just the tip of the icebergs with them ... just the tip of the iceberg ... my personal favorite ... - we need to raise the minimum wage cause theres not enough living wage jobs ... Then ... - we need to keep the borders open and take even more refugees witch is almost 100% LOW WAGE EARNERS ... witch drives down the wages of the all ready low wage earners ... BRILLIANT!!!! witch=Hillary

no, i'm battling this idea that it's only the millennials responsible for this trend, as DC has suggested. They aren't the only ones doing it but they are doing it in much greater numbers and with much greater frequency than older generations. i'm seriously sick of the "generation this, generation that" argument, especially on this board.
the general argument is constantly used around here as a way to point fingers and discredit any of us in this generation. I've given the millennial generation a fair amount of credit when I thought it was due and criticism when I thought it was due.. and I will continue to do that. and there's millions of people in DC's generation who online shops. he just admitted that he online shops, yet tried to some crap ass excuse as to why. Yes, I have shopped online in the past and probably will again but not when it's something simple that I can go to a local store and buy. DC is over here crying about millennials as if it wasn't his generation who made the dot com boom happen in the first place.
sorry but it's annoying as all hell. So is you calling everybody out for crying when your whining can be heard for miles away anytime somebody is critical of something you support.

Well, the fact is that inflation and buying power has gotten steadily worse with minimum wage in the past few decades. When I first started working I could buy a lot more than people today can. I would say I think it should keep up with buying power so people who are trying to work don't go backwards.

You do realize that when you order them online, people are pulling your order, packing and shipping your order, right? Is that really any better than folding pants? No, but there's half as many people pulling, packing and shipping the order, as there were people folding pants when retail was booming. So that means there's half as many jobs for high school and college kids trying to make some extra money. Got it.

Another reason why it's more important than ever to offer free college tuition. You have to educate the population. Especially with the onset of automation that's about to come. A lot of posters can't look past 5 years, but those who can see it'll be a disaster for the working man.

This all started with a very simple question.. people (many of them are millennials) rage on against places like Walmart for not paying high wages or providing benefits, but they want to do away with those jobs completely by ordering online.. If you would like to address that apparent contradiction, feel free, if you just want to continue name calling and telling dad I'm sitting too close to you, then I'm done here.

Everything comes down to supply and demand, so it's just not as simple to generalize it into a homogeneous concept like you're doing. Maybe you should get you 12 year old nephew on here. He might teach you a few things. Hopefully he'll teach you homonyms and how to spell!

The truth comes from discussions. Not personal put downs. But I don't really expect you or Diam to comprehend that. Most on here don't.
I was trying to have a debate about something he went personal. So if that's what he thinks is a discussion, he can shove it.

What's the contradiction? Are millennials supposed to keep low paying jobs at horrible corporations that they don't support because people need to be employed? What about the employees of Amazon and FedEx who will get their jobs cut because people are supporting walmart?

Guess we know who my generation got the whining from. Smh. Being critical isn't whining, just like writing stories people don't like doesn't make them fake news. So you clearly either ignored or didn't understand my post where I specifically explained I could care less about which industries rises or falls. The market dictates, remember? Let's remember that YOURE the one who decided to take a shot at my generation for no reason whatsoever, then tried to play victim when I called you out for being a part of the very thing you're blasting millennials over. That's a hypocritical stance you're taking. Straight up. Walmart can pay their workers fair wages all on their own. Any company can. Whether we shop online or not doesn't affect Walmart. Why? Because they are smart enough to hop on the online shopping trend. Walmart has a robust online portal. They do what good companies are suppose to do: adapt. So Walmart will always survive one way or another, and they will continue having ethic issues when it comes to fair wages. But let's flip that argument. And when I do this, I immediately laugh because of course you feel bold enough to come at me, but not guys like Diam and 40 and Day cause they are your peeps. Those guys - who ARENT millennials- are whining and whining about the false narrative that government has destroyed coal. Yet i bet if you ask them, one of them has a car that was built 2010 or newer. Well guess what D.C.? Because of efficient standards such as fuel economy, the tech being built in newer cars has also led to a decrease in demand for fossil fuels, such as coal. Yet I don't hear you crying about your own generation ruining the fossil fuel industry by buying newer vehicles and other tech that is more greener, which is a big reason why the oil prices as gone down. Oh look, DC's generation will whine about government but are ruining the industry by purchasing products with newer, greener tech. ^^^sounds ridiculous coming out of my mouth. Now I hope you understand why I think your whole point was ridiculous. If you're done, it's whatever. I've made my point quite clear.

What exactly was your point? The only thing I took from it was that you got offended because somebody made a good-natured dig about millennials.
Anyway, about online shopping: It's hard to beat the convenience and prices.
There's also something to be said about the declining retail experience. Between traffic, higher prices, and shady characters, it often ends up being a bad experience. This is especially true at Walmart and most shopping malls. Inevitably I think to myself, "why didn't I just buy this .... online?"

You seem to forget that I support the border wall and enforcing our immigration policy. Also .. how much Raman noodles cost has nothing to do with the value of the McDonald's cashier's worth ... the price of ketchup just went up , guess the maid deserves a raise ... ... The minimum wage was created to set a minimum standard of living. Anything else brought up outside of that has no business in the topic. U have no clue what your talking about here .. NONE ...
Sorry if the facts offend u ... sometimes the truth hurts ... No I'm not offended. Even though you are missing the mark by a mile, you didn't take any real cheap shots. I never get offended anyway. That seems reserved for the Trump supporters these days. But you keep bringing up everything except what the minimum wage was created for. A minimum standard of living for working people. That was why it was created and what it's intended to do. You promote that working people continue to go backwards while you help save money on the backs of poor working people. It's okay if people working at Walmart aren't sucking up your tax dollars drawing food stamps and getting medicaid for their children. Really, it is. Because that's exactly what you are supporting right now. You're supporting that YOU are paying for these people with your tax dollars instead of their employers paying enough that they don't have to.. Keep supporting the welfare state Diam.

Democratic reps file article of impeachment against TrumpTwo Democratic congressmen introduced an article of impeachment on Wednesday against President Trump, accusing him of obstruction of justice over his firing of former FBI Director James Comey. The resolution says Trump “prevented, obstructed and impeded” the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn by “threatening and then terminating” Comey. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/07/...inst-trump.html

Anyways,
People need to stop getting caught up in saving industries that tank based on supply and demand, and start focusing more on how best to keep people up with the ever evolving economy.
As CHS and may of us have said a thousand times already, education is the key. Pit has mentioned how well and successful his state has handled college education, and something along those lines needs to be made across the country if we hope to keep people employed and not lose jobs to foreign talent.
Now, the globalist in me that CHS hates so much says we should be sending our talent across the world just as much as foreigners send their talents this way. But for those of you hell bent on making sure Americans can get jobs in America, y'all need to update the way we approach this situation as a nation.
The bootstrap rhetoric is nonsense. Countries are built and sustained from the ground up, not the top down, and making education affordable is a start in making sure our fellow Americans can compete in the most in demand industries like tech. Making education affordable means not bending over and taking it from major corporations and for profit colleges. State schools should not be costing an arm and leg to go to. But a lot of you guys talk about making people pay their own way through college as if it's the 80's when college at a state school only ran you 2k a semester max.
The problem I see is too many people have an every man for himself mentality while living in a country who was founded on the VERY opposite of that ideology.

The country was founded on the principles of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
You have the right to your life, the liberty to do as you wish and the right to pursue happiness. You are not guaranteed happiness.
So go forth and make of yourself what you can!

America Rolls on with Trump at the Helm!
YES! Rolling DOWN HILL! We are moving so far backward and to the right that it looks like we are moon walking in a semi circle!
Trump is the worst thing to happen to America since WW2. I would say he is going to be the first President ever REMOVED from office... Time will tell.

I just get tired of my money going to loser who don't want to work. They expect you, me and our tax money to teach them new trades and feed them and clothes them. They are pathetic examples of the American man. Such as this did not create this great Nation, they suck its blood like parasites. I have no problem taking care of those who can't take care of themselves but taking care of able bodied men is just sick.

I just get tired of my money going to loser who don't want to work. If you ever actually researched it, you would find that a very miniscule amount of YOUR MONEY goes to help anyone. But I understand your frustration about taxes, which is different than helping people UP. See, I can respond reasonably to reasonable points.

I learned this lesson during my first job in life in the late 1980's. I worked at a gas station and people would come in a ask to sign a sheet that they were checking on their application. The problem is they would come in the evening when the high school kids like myself worked. Why? Because we would let them sign the sheet. This allowed them to get welfare. I got to the point where I would ask them have you filled out an application? If they said no! I would make them fill it out before I would let them sign the sheet. Almost everyone I would ask would say no and when I would give them an application they would leave and not fill it out. Most people do not want our help. They want a hand out.
