I've been reading through the thread, and I wanted to get the convo back to the online shopping vs brick-and-mortar discussion. This is an interesting one because it involves how we deal with the natural evolution of our markets and economy, and how employment must keep up with that.

I play hockey, and my position is goalie. Ice hockey goalie equipment is crazy expensive, so I do a good chunk of my shopping online. That being said, it's really dumb to buy goalie equipment sight unseen because the sizing is so weird. You HAVE to try equipment on before using it. I think the retail shops are going to be shrinking for a while... but they also need to adapt so that their online presence compliments their brick-and-mortar stores. Sports equipment chains are especially vulnerable to this online movement.

Just because someone stands up for the 'Paul's' of the world doesn't make them a Paul. I have never taken a dime in government assistance. I paid for college myself, paying off my loans without any default. I'm a home owner. I have worked steady since I was 15. Paying taxes for the past 30 years. So while you only see me as a taker I guess because I stand up for those that need assistance, you're quite wrong about me and the other 'Pauls' on the board.
We pay our taxes. But we understand billions of dollars of corporate handouts are what's draining our economy. Not some single mom down the road trying to get her government cheese for the month. I have no issue helping her. On the other hand I'm done giving GE or Exxon handouts while they have record profits and huge CEO salaries.
But go ahead. Blame the poor. That's exactly what the GOP wants you to do.

My wife does that all the time. She will stroll right on in to Nordstrom overpriced ass stores, try whatever on, or find a perfume , then go find the same thing on discounted online.

My amazon prime account has been metaphorically raped because of her. My dad use to complain about my mom doing the same thing. Like "yo, why drag me here?" Lol.

And guess what? People are starting to do the same thing with cars.

Did you see the new tesla 3 that just dropped? $35k mass production car. And it's a gorgeous looking car. And while the battery is a concern as far as production, guess what you don't have to spend money on anymore?

Some of the top end car manufacturers already started the trend with having electric motors. The BMW i8 for example. And for people like me who are big car enthusiast, I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about saving up a ton and trading in my M6 for a tesla s P90D.

Super car performance for half the cost, AWD, and eletric? Pffftt yes bro. Yes.

Ford and GM are trying to innovate and reinvent their brands by pushing for more hybrids and electrics. That's the future.

But guess what? That industry needs more people with tech skills!! Especially with automation, robotics still need humans to repair and maintain. Still need people to write software.

The demand for that is already there!!

And that was my whole point of bringing up retail when I mentioned coal. Those industries can't be saved because consumers just don't give a damn about it like they use to. We're on to the new stuff. We have ALWAYS been on to the new stuff.

So why is the government wasting money trying to save an industry that can't be saved. Should we bring back type writers, too? What about cassettes? Are we gonna bring back blockbuster video?

The government should only be concerned with making sure the labor force is matching the demand of consumers. Which means making sure we stay on top of the new tech, and continue innovating to stay ahead of the game and be the leader of the world. Which also means making sure the people are educated enough to go into these industries and DOMINATE.

Ground up, not top down. That's what government is for. To ensure the quality of life and survival of its people.

When I see a homeless person on the streets. I buy them a meal. My choice. I give canned foods to food banks. My choice.

I do not believe in a system of government deciding for me where my money should be spent.

The poor had a choice and choose the wrong path. People should assist them to get them back on the right path. Not the government. They should not make choices for where you and I spend our money.
