Hue ha talked ha bit, but thus far they been in shorts, and Brock has done nothing thus far against any 1st team defense in 11 on 11's.

I'm not saying that it's impossible that he takes a huge step forward, but I am also not counting on it.

I expect him to be cut or traded when cuts come calling. .

We aren't cutting Brock. His 16 mil is guaranteed, so he gets paid whether he is here or not. Someone loses a QB, we could end up getting something out of him or atleast someone taking the salary off our books. No reason to cut him at all.

You think we'll keep just keep two or you think Hogan makes it over him?

I don't see us keeping only 2 QB.

I think that the team hopes to be able to trade Osweiller for something .... even if they have to eat a chunk of his contract in order to do so.

I'm definitely in line with getting guys on your team who hate losing more than they like winning.

I think we should just let the qb battle play out. None of us really knows what's going on w/that unit.

There are exactly zero Browns players on the exercise bikes as the first camp practice officially begins.

thank goodness

I'm not sure, but I think this is a first for us over at least the last decade.

jmho - Oh and don't even tell me about Brock and Hogan.

How can you be so sure?

^ Replace the word "capable" with "likely" and I'd have no issue with this, but I think they are all Capable, Even Hogan,
I also think the problem of not understanding the offense meaning one can't get a start has been proven wrong several times in the past, even on the Browns, (A couple horrid games, and the coach makes the switch, no matter how green the backup is).

I also think dismissing Brock as unable to perform better than whatever performance has you thinking he's not good enough to be the guy, and not counting for that he might have improved is judging too early.

I think it's a wait and see on everybody, all of them.
Half of the guys on the 53 man roster are going to be in a wait and see how they are going to do, kind of position anyways,
So the opportunities for good and bad are both there.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Two QB's that's a joke. IMO we'll keep 3 and have another 5 on speed dial the way we lose them. But I am hoping with a better O-line and running game things will be different this year. I still think we'll keep 3.

Brock deserves as much of a chance to be our starting QB as any of them. He has the height, size, arm strength, release's the ball in good time and has more experience. Based on that part of his resume' he deserves a fair shot IMO.

Of course he deserves a fair shot ... never said he didn't ... not sure why he wouldn't get a fair shot ... the cupboards pretty damm bare here .... he just STINKS ... I said it in one of my firsts posts about him ... if he does open the season as our starter its an indictment of CK and means DK is still learning ...

A lot of info in that one sentence:

1) He caught a long TD pass from Kessler.

2) Haden got burned.

3) He got hurt.

I hope it's not serious. fingerscrossed

Nate Ulrich’s Browns briefing: Rare showdowns with Joe Thomas will be Myles Garrett’s most valuable learning tool in first camp
By Nate Ulrich
Beacon Journal sports writer

BEREA: The resources Browns rookie defensive end Myles Garrett has available to him are remarkable.
Bruce Smith, the NFL’s all-time leader in career sacks and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, wants to mentor Garrett.
Gregg Williams, a longtime defensive coordinator, has guided several standout pass rushers, including three-time Pro Bowl selection Jevon Kearse.

Clyde Simmons, a two-time Pro Bowl D-end who played 15 NFL seasons, is Garrett’s position coach.
Yet the opportunity to face Joe Thomas, a 10-time Pro Bowl left tackle who’s a lock to enter the Hall of Fame, will be the most valuable learning tool at Garrett’s disposal in his first NFL training camp.
And Garrett must live up to the hype as the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft for the Browns to ascend from the wreckage of their 1-15 catastrophe last season.

“If I work hard and combine that with technique and work on that every day against one of the greatest of all time, I should end up pretty good,” Garrett said Thursday before the first practice of camp.
At this advanced stage of his career, Thomas usually preserves himself with rest instead of practicing. He has played all 9,334 offensive snaps of his career and wants to keep the streak alive.
Garrett, 21, has been eager to line up across from Thomas, 32, since the Browns drafted the edge rusher from Texas A&M on April 27. It didn’t happen in spring practices, with Thomas sitting out all nine organized team activity sessions and the three-day mandatory minicamp.
The wait continued Thursday because Thomas remained idle during team drills, but the first encounter will take place in training camp.
“It could be a really good teaching moment [for Garrett],” coach Hue Jackson said. “Joe’s up to that challenge. Trust me. He’s looking forward to it. It’s going to happen. When it’s going to happen I don’t know. I mean I’m not scripting it to happen. I know it’s going to happen at some point in time, but it’ll be a good challenge for them both.”
Garrett abused rookie left tackle Rod Johnson for back-to-back virtual sacks in a drill pitting defensive linemen against offensive linemen. He received a fist bump from Williams after the first sack and a chest bump from cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun after the second.
However, Garrett acknowledged flashes like those won’t matter until they occur versus Thomas.

“It would be great to go against him, but that’s one thing,” Garrett said. “I’m trying to beat him.”
Garrett has bounced back from the left lateral foot sprain he suffered June 14 during the second practice of mandatory minicamp and doesn’t anticipate being limited much in training camp. He participated in team drills Thursday, toiling with the second-team defense.

He believes the injury happened when he planted on the foot of quarterback Brock Osweiler during a would-be sack. He knew it was minor after a couple of days and felt fine after a couple of weeks. He spent a week with a walking boot covering the same leg on which he suffered a high-ankle sprain last season at Texas A&M.
“One thing after another, but I can’t be worried about it,” Garrett said. “The more I’m worried about it, the more it slows me down. You can’t really have that against 73.”

Browns fans know Thomas is No. 73. The smart ones also know Garrett’s best chance to reach his goal of becoming defensive rookie of the year lies in absorbing all of the knowledge he can from Thomas, a willing mentor who considers himself a de facto player-coach.
All signs point to Garrett being humble enough to listen the advice Thomas offers.

“We drafted the right one in my opinion,” Jackson said.
Availability questions
A history of hamstring injuries isn’t the only lingering concern about wide receiver Corey Coleman’s availability.
The Browns’ medical staff cleared Coleman to practice at the start of training camp after he suffered a hamstring injury May 24, forcing him to sit out seven of nine OTAs and all three practices during mandatory minicamp. He participated in team drills Thursday and jumped along the sideline to catch a pass from rookie quartereback DeShone Kizer.
But there’s this: Cleveland police are still investigating a Dec. 31 incident in which Coleman’s brother and friend were each indicted on one count of felonious assault.
In a case information form filed by police Jan. 19, Corey Coleman, brother Jonathan Coleman and friend Jared Floyd are named as the men who assaulted Adam Sapp of Mayfield Heights.
Corey Coleman hasn’t been charged and insisted he’s confident he’ll be cleared and isn’t distracted by the probe.
“I think it’s a teaching moment for everyone,” he said. “Don’t put yourself in bad situations, and don’t let others put you in bad situations.”
Coleman dodged several questions about the incident and told reporters to ask his lawyer.
His attorney, Kevin Spellacy, said this by phone last month: “Corey has cooperated with the authorities. He continues to cooperate with the authorities. And he’s maintained he was not involved in a physical altercation at that incident whatsoever. Whether that be encouraging somebody, whether that be participating in fighting, he wasn’t involved. Period.”

Jackson said, “All our players know we have a kind of zero-tolerance [policy] when it comes to a lot of different things. We will not support things that go wrong off the field with our football team, not just him, but any player.”
The Browns desperately need Coleman to stay healthy and out of trouble. They’re counting on him to become their No. 1 receiver after he disappointed last year as the 15th overall pick. If he doesn’t deliver, their receiving corps is set up to be abysmal.

Extra points

• Rookie Jabrill Peppers worked as the third-team strong safety during most of the spring and practiced with the second unit Thursday. The backup status doesn’t bother the first-round pick (No. 25 overall). “I like earning things and being rewarded for the hard work,” he said. “I was never given anything in my whole life, so it’s no different than growing up.”

• Asked how he plans to use Peppers, Jackson said, “Every which way I can.” The team wants Peppers to play safety, return punts and/or kickoffs and moonlight on offense. “One of my Pop Warner coaches said, ‘Be a guy that they have a hard time taking off the field because you’re so multi-faceted,’ and I definitely took that to heart,” Peppers said.

• Linebacker Christian Kirksey insisted the Browns aren’t burdened by their 1-15 record. “Last year has been washed out of our minds,” he said. “We’re just trying to focus on the new players we have, some of the new coaches, some of the new schemes and just control everything in front of us.”

• Powerful agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus were at Browns headquarters as camp opened. They recently became the representatives of running back Isaiah Crowell and visited the team to talk about him and other clients. Crowell is scheduled to become a free agent on March 14.

Hue Jackson happy with strides made by healthy receiver Corey Coleman
6:22 PM ET
Tony Grossi

Editor's note: Tony Grossi covers the Cleveland Browns for ESPN 850 WKNR.

More takeaways from Day 1 of Browns training camp …

1. Big difference: It wasn’t just the sight of oft-injured receiver Corey Coleman practicing hard and pulling down a high sideline out from quarterback DeShone Kizer that pleased Hue Jackson. The coach is happy with the overall growth of Coleman’s grasp on the offense in his second training camp. Earlier in the day, Coleman said the biggest difference in him was his grasp of the playbook. “I know what’s going on with the offense,” Coleman said. “I’m not out there guessing or hoping I don’t mess up. [With] a year under my belt, I know what we’re trying to do with the offense.” Jackson has challenged Coleman to step up and be his No. 1 receiver and he feels Coleman’s work to this stage has been commendable. “He’s telling other guys how to get lined up. A year ago, he couldn’t do that,” Jackson said. “It was spinning for him a year ago. It was tough. You think of a rookie player coming into a new environment, learning a new language, new coaches, the National Football League playing against the best of the best, the draft status, having to compete at a high level and be at your best play after play, that’s hard for anyone. But that’s what he has to do, and he gets it. And I think he’s taken on that challenge.”

2. No bikes: Among the welcome changes to the camp atmosphere was the absence of the Bike Brigade – the row of stationary bikes occupied by the half-dozen or so players unable to practice. It wasn’t necessary. Everybody started the day on the field. “We’re a very healthy team right now,” Jackson said. “My goal is to try to keep us healthy but also to practice football.” There were a couple minor casualties during the practice, but Jackson attributed all of them to cramping under the hot sun. Notably, receiver Kenny Britt cramped up after beating Joe Haden for about a 40-yard pass from Cody Kessler. After a celebratory chest bump with tight end Seth DeValve in the end zone, Britt retreated indoors with a trainer. Also, fullback Dan Vitale left the field via a cart with a trainer. One player who took in the sun on a VDO (veteran’s day off) was left tackle Joe Thomas, as has become custom with the 11-year veteran. “I’m gonna keep that hourglass on that guy,” Jackson said. “Until we need to. Joe has proven to me everything he needs to. I know this young man knows how to get ready to play. I kind of give him the green light that way. One thing we all know about Joe, he’s gonna be out there when the time comes.”

3. Quarterback update: As expected, Kessler was first quarterback behind center and worked exclusively with the first team. Brock Osweiler was second, Kizer third and Kevin Hogan fourth. Typically, Kizer would take three snaps with the third team and then receive one with the first team. “I thought it was a good first day,” Jackson said. “Anytime you don’t turn the ball over on the first day of practice or have fumbled snaps on the ground, that is something you look for and you feel good about. All in all, it was a good first day.”

4. QB update, Part II: Here are the quarterback passing completion numbers from all team drills, as compiled by ESPN Cleveland’s Jason Gibbs: Kessler, 5 of 6; Osweiler, 8 of 10; Kizer, 4 of 7; Hogan, 3 of 6.

I agree here. He's got a confidence, but not arrogance. Quiet. Seems driven. No nonsense.

Dang dawg$s, I have butterflies in my stomach considering the prospect of a new season.

Just catching up, and back on page three there was a lot of talk regarding whether the coordinators are on the field or in the booth. This made me think about how long it takes the coaches on the field to get the defense or offense look in pictures. Based on what th t.v. shows coaches sit with players and a tablet after a possession; I recall in the past they would do the same thing with printed photos.

I am of the opinion that a coordinator can see and react more quickly when in the booth. He can see the entire D or O and how plays develop, while adjusting his next play call instantaneously. After the possession, information can be relayed to positional coaches, who can then work inclusively with their groups based off of coordinator feedback.

Not trying to derail from current stuff, but I've been out the loop and this got me wondrin'.

Well here we go. No major injuries. Seems like everyone is saying everyone came in condition.

Excited football has virtually "officially" started for us. I watched all the interviews, they're all posted on the official Browns website.

any word on who is running at left tackle with joe having a vdo?? it would sure be nice if joe could take a young tackle under his wing for several years to groom him as his replacement.

Shon Coleman played LT while Erving was on the right side. I believe Coleman is first on the depth chart at RT
