Just who do you think he had on his line? Gretzky is the top scorer by almost 1000 points. Jagr is 2nd and Messier 3rd. Lemiux is in 8th. Gretzky and Messier rarely played on the same line.

I wish you would stop thinking you run the board, especially when we have to read your arguments with EVERYONE, on EVERY post you are involved in.

Mario had Jagr, Francis and Stevens. Mario, Jagr, and Francis was called the Great Line.

It's not like he was surrounded by a bunch of scrubs.

This is my last point to be made and then we can agree to disagree, and that's fine.

Spergon put the stats right there in front of us. Goal per game and points per game average out to almost exactly the same . Gretzky just played in many more games.

So as a Browns fan you can relate to this comparison. Emmit Smith has more stats than Jim Brown in most categories. So would you say Emmitt Smith is a better back than JIM Brown? I guess you could say he had a better career but not a chance in hell would you ever say he was a better back. Thats the type of physical freak that Mario was . Especially in that era. Guys that big were always defensemen , while the small quick guys were the forwards.

On a side note, I used to work for/with the guy who signed Gretzky to his first professional hockey contract.

Good for you. You are a good guy. I admire your loyality to your favoriet player. Something to be said for that.

Either way, I think we stand on common ground, both were great players that anybody would love to have on their team.

I just wish you hadn't called me a bandwagon fan. I have been a hockey fan for decades. I played it in Jr leagues and HS.

I might have been poking you about possible taking Borque or the Rocket over mario...but the Rocket was on equal footing. I was serious about Bobby Orr, but I played defense.....Bobby was pretty darn special.

Most good teams had a defenseman who could get out off the high corners and score from the point, yet still get back to take away the inside or outside shot, making a goalies life much easier. On D, it's all about angles and making that net as small as possible. If the goalie trusted you could take one away, especially the outside, he could scoot out of the crease a few feet, making him look really big.

I apologize for that, I guess I got used to calling whiny butt hurt Predators fans that(not referring to you )

I wouldn't argue if you said Bobby Orr, Bobby completely revolutionized the Defense position. He was the complete package, he could play great defense, score, set up scores with his passing out of the zone, and put a whooping on someone.

And The Rocket was definitely a once in a generation type player.

You literally can't really compare Bobby Orr to any other hockey player, the guy was one of a kind.

Drew Doughty is the best two-way defensive player in the league, and he's not even close to as dynamic as Orr was. Yes, different eras, and like I said, today's game is a lot better, but the way Orr played was crazy.

It is pretty special when one of your "goons" is by far your best skater and stickmen, both passing and shooting. That combination rarely fits together.

Did you know?

Damn man, there is a hockey thread right below this one and you guys have totally hijacked this thread w/a topic that very few care about.

What do any of you dumb ass posts have to do w/ "Did you know...?"

Then again, I helped hijack the Andrew Berry thread by talking about Corey Coleman. LOL

But really, why not have a hockey discussion in the hockey thread? Not one person even responded to the UCLA thang, because this has become some stupid hockey thread.

UMMM, I believe the title says "sports" and obviously SOMEONE cares if there have been several people involved in the discussion

The title says "sports" I didnt say that is all it said. But "sports" as in not one particular sport. But the first post that started the thread was about hockey players.

So quit being butt hurt because no one cared about your dumb ass UCLA post and the conversation didnt go the way you wanted to direct it to .

So go start a College basketball/UCLA/ John Wooden thread and you can tell everyone what an expert you are on College Bball and you used to coach a college basketball team and a football team, race car driver, artist, musician, poet, teacher , cop, mafia boss or whatever else suits making you a self proclaimed expert on the the subject

Oh no, no, no we charted every pitch back then by hand. we earned our 8 cents an hour.

Vers, I'm just saving myself the time by quoting King. He summed up what would have required 5 minutes and 10 typo fixes. wink
You were kinda out of line in this thread, man. Gotta be honest.

As to the debate, if I could draft a guy #2 out of all the players in NHL history, with Gretzky the obvious 1, I might even take Messier over Mario.
