Republicans call for second special counsel to probe Clinton, Lynch and more

Nearly two-dozen Republicans are calling on the Trump Justice Department to appoint a second special counsel to investigate the raft of 2016 campaign controversies involving Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration, warning these questions cannot “be allowed to die on the vine” amid the Russia probe firestorm.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and GOP committee colleagues made the request in a letter Thursday to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

“The American public has a right to know the facts – all of them – surrounding the election and its aftermath,” they wrote. “We urge you to appoint a second special counsel to ensure these troubling, unanswered questions are not relegated to the dustbin of history.”

'I don’t think that the crimes of the prior administration, of Hillary Clinton, the collusion with James Comey and Loretta Lynch should be forgotten just because Hillary Clinton lost the election'
- Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla

What in the world is Debbie Wasserman Schultz thinking?

As news spread that the IT aide of former Democratic National Committee chairwoman and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., was arrested by federal law enforcement officials as he attempted to flee the country, enterprising reporters and law enforcement officials alike began to piece together the web of computer security breaches that reportedly occurred on the Congress member's watch.

Foreign-born IT provider Imran Awan reportedly breached the mainframe of the House Intelligence Committee as well as the House Foreign Affairs Committee. While doing so, Awan, his brother, and his wife (who has now fled to Pakistan), were paid a whopping $4 million in taxpayer-funded salary since 2009, according to public salary records.

Overnight, we also learned that Awan reportedly also consulted for the DNC and possessed the password for the iPad which then-chairwoman Wasserman Schultz used for official DNC business at or around the same time that the DNC's email system was hacked and DNC emails were published by Wikileaks.

Shaffer: Evidence That Wasserman Schultz Used Pakistani Imran Awan For Malevolent Activities Against Bernie Sanders

Retired Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer said Thursday on Tucker Carlson Tonight that there is now evidence that then-Democratic National Chairwoman and current Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz used Imran Awan for "malevolent activities" and "manipulative things" against Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary race.

Shaffer talked about Awan's other brothers who worked on Capitol Hill, family members fleeing the country to Pakistan, and that he got paid 3 times the average Congressional I.T. employee.

FOX News reported on bank fraud by one of the brothers, how he double-billed the House of Representatives, and the possibility of "putting sensitive House information on the 'cloud' and potentially exposing it to outside sources."

Awan was arrested at Dulles airport trying to leave the country.

Entire transcript:

LAURA INGRAHAM: What happens when a Congressional staffer with close ties to a top Democrat and access to sensitive hard drives gets caught wiring $300,000 to Pakistan and then is arrested trying to flee the country? Sounds like a pretty fascinating story. But if you're in the American media, they're not much interested.

Former DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz kept Imran Awan on her payroll for months, even as he was being investigated by the Capitol Police for a host of possible crimes. She even tried to hinder that investigation, but our intrepid press has shown little interest in the story.

Tony Shaffer is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, he joins us, and he has been following this case.

This is wild. I watched CNN earlier today. I'm jetlagged, so I needed something that would put me to sleep temporarily. So I had it on, and the guy, I don't remember the reporter's name, but he reported it by saying "there were these conspiracy theories out there about this Debbie Wasserman Schultz staffer" who basically is just in trouble for some bad checks, for some bank fraud, it's just a conspiracy theory. Implying that people like you who have been covering this and have been looking into it are the conspiracy theorists.

LT. COL. TONY SHAFFER, U.S. ARMY (RET): This is more like a Quentin Tarantino movie with everything except a gimp, and I think the gimp will show up... Look, this is complex, but let me try to simplify. Basically, Debbie Wasserman Schultz employed three brothers who are of Pakistani origin at three times the salary of everybody else who does I.T. on Capitol Hill. This all started years ago.

INGRAHAM: They must be really good at their jobs.

SHAFFER: Apparently, they failed at working at Best Buy and other places, so I guess if you fail at Best Buy you get to be hired by the Hill.

INGRAHAM: Were they at Best Buy?

SHAFFER: I can't remember which one, it was one of those outlets. Now, what happened though is that she has employed those folks, and over the past years, there's been real issues regarding the fact that every other Democrat person they worked for on the Hill fired them. But they were retained by her. Now, what is really key here to remember, Laura, is not about hard drives. It's about the fact that these individuals, during a time they worked for her on Capitol Hill, and her position as a member of Congress --

INGRAHAM: Three brothers, Pakistani origin, which is not in and of itself a bad thing.

SHAFFER: -- had massive access to all databases to include e-mail of members of Congress, super user access to the system itself, and most importantly the sensitive information being held by the House Foreign Affairs Committee and other committees that they had access to. What this all comes down to is like, okay, you can have all that, but what gets worse is she actually employs these folks apparently to do hideous things behind the scenes.

There is evidence now that a least one of these brothers was helping her do the Bernie Sanders malevolent activities, trying to manipulative things against him that actually helped her do things like voice change calls, they actually did all other things which and then --

INGRAHAM: Who are these characters? Who are they?

SHAFFER: And then they dumped -- then there's evidence some of the information they had access to dumped off into a third database that's actually being called a breach. That's why the Capitol Hill Police rolled in saying there's something wrong here.

Now the FBI has rolled in and let me give you the big take away here, it looks like a foreign intelligence service may be the recipient of all this. Something called the Muslim Brotherhood.

INGRAHAM: Whoa, whoa, whoa. The Muslim Brotherhood and Debbie? They are really going to say it's a conspiracy theory now.

SHAFFER: It's a conspiracy now, but that's apparently where all of this has been going. That's why the FBI has now been investigating.

INGRAHAM: These brothers have been kicking around Capitol Hill in various capacities for IT, but they essentially were blacklisted by most of the other Democrats. Correct?

SHAFFER: That's correct.

INGRAHAM: Yet she gave him a home. Very interesting.

SHAFFER: She gave them a home. And they actually suspended most of their access in February of this year and she kept them on anyway.

INGRAHAM: She's just a very nice person. Apparently, it's a jobs program over there at the DNC.

SHAFFER: $300,000 being kicked over to Pakistan finally was the straw that broke the camel's back.

INGRAHAM: The wife is gone, she's safely over there in Pakistan.

Wassermann should be arrested prosecuted and locked up if the FBI investigation proves wrong doing.

The ship is sinking, so lets bring everyone down with us!

More seriously, I have zero problem with this, and most shouldn't. If in the end it turns out to that she/they are guilty - send them to jail. If it turns out she/they are not, then the people of the country deserve to know this as well. Regardless, the country wins.

People need to see what real criminals in government look like.
What real Collusion with foreign powers looks like.
They need to learn what true Obstruction of Justice looks like.

I think that is why there is such a fear, and hatred towards President Trump.

He is a outsider that is looking to overturn the apple cart. The longer he gets bogged down, the more time people have to scrub details all over Washington D.C.

Not sure what you mean, but I don't think Clem hates white people.

He may hate some white people. He even said he hates President Trump. That's ok. I hate some black people. Al Sharpton would be one of many, but like Clem, it is bacause I hate what they do and think. Not because they are black.

Clinton confidant Blumenthal back under microscope amid Trump scrutiny

Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, raised the case of Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal in hearings this week. He asked why Blumenthal did not register as a foreign agent while working as an “off-the-books” intelligence resource for then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, while simultaneously working on behalf of a foreign entity—a political party in the country of Georgia.

“If the Justice Department thought Mr. Blumenthal’s activities on behalf of foreign interests did not require registration under the law, it should say so,” Grassley said.

Blumenthal, who served as a senior adviser to former President Bill Clinton between 1997 and 2001, reportedly was prohibited by the Obama administration from taking a job with Clinton’s State Department. Blumenthal, instead, sent Clinton guidance on sensitive diplomatic matters, most notably intelligence information about Libya around the time of the 2012 attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans.

Thanks, 'Peen

40 and me go at it like this all the time. I assume he plays it like I do, namely: "It's all good."

One-liners, quips... I never get upset at anything he writes, and I only poke at him for laffs. Our PM's are cordial and respectful.

I think sometimes folks have trouble with humor on the board. It's a challenge- not being able to read faces, hear tone of voice, etc.

I appreciate your support (and you're right about me), but me and 40 are good.

(Besides... I'm more than equipped to handle the likes of him if spit ever gets real... wink )

Good times.

Yes and I am waiting for Pit, Perfect, OCD and the others to chime in with things like, "They are all going to Prison now" and "Drip Drip Drip" "its the beginning of the end for them." Or "My father told me they sucked".

I just get frustrated. The constant mocking from a few posters on both sides ruins all intelligent conversation.

For example, earlier today I made a post about actually "being okay" w/the transgender decision. I wasn't at first, but after reading GM's take, an article that Haus posted, and then doing a bit of research........I said...."okay, I get that."

05 replied and said I made some good points, but he offered counter points. He did so w/thoughtfulness and intelligence. He ended it by saying "Good discussion."

I was out on business calls most of the day and when I logged on, the thread had gone to hell because Perfect went off on some crazy rant and this Eric dude was almost as bad.

Intelligent, thoughtful conversation was gone. It was replaced by one-sided, insulting commentary that had no interest in helping educate us. It was all about dictating one's opinion onto others, and the method of preference was to belittle the other side.

It's lame. It's tiring. And a few posters keep a lot of intelligent posters from posting on these topics.

The sad thing 888, is that we actually have a lot of very intelligent posters on this board. Many more than other boards I have visited. It would be so great if we could actually have some honest, intelligent conversations on here.

If this is true and the facts lead to her and this guy, they should bury them under the jail.

AND if Mueller's investigation leads him to the left or to the CLintons, then they should go down too. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if they all go down.

Trump is in no way shape or form off the hook even if this is true though, he is guilty of obstruction at a minimum. Wouldn't it be just terrible for Team Trump if he was innocent of colluding but his paranoia and interfering in the investigation brought him down.

I agree. And I see it on both sides.

But I also think I see one "side" do nothing but troll and mock.

I agree with the many sensible takes on the Transgender thing - I wouldn't pay for their medical procedures, but if the majority of Generals and military leaders think that transgender servicemen can contribute and not be a liability or a distraction, I am all for them serving.

Hardly. I have had plenty of political points and discussions. You have only provided the light entertainment with the trolling on the side.

As for your "take" and claim that there is evidence and proof? Posting two news articles !! Ha. If Wasserman is guilty throw her in jail. But prove it. Hilary? She probably deserves to be in jail - but that ship sailed. But man it appeals to the base to talk about lynching her eh? Comey? What proof of anything is there on Comey other than a smear campaign by your boy?

You post to be contrary and divisive - arguing the indefensible all the time like the ridiculous twitter tirade against Sessions. It's cute and funny and all - and the best part is you know we know and you know we are right.

See, this is what I mean. We might disagree a bit on the transgender thing, but it's respectful. And I suspect we could both change our minds.

That is what true debate is about. It's about the exchanging of ideas and dealing w/objections. It's about constantly evaluating one's opinion as more information is processed. it is not about............"you got to see it my way or I will mock you."

I know my pleas are not going to change things on here...LOL...but man, I gotta try.

And for the hundredth time I will ask you to prove it.

Comey wrote some notes to himself saying Trump asked if he was done with the Flynn investigation and if he could now let it go because Flynn is a nice guy, is not proof of obstruction.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch ordering Comey to refer to the Clinton investigation as a "Matter" and not an "Investigation" is obstruction.
