Not to hurt your feelings but what you just said is Minorities need to be treated differently because...
Well then accept being treated differently and stop crying about not being treated equally!
Time to move on! It is a new Century already!

Thank you for writing this post.
I believe that if I had written the same observations, the very people who might be made to understand through you would quite possibly have resisted hearing it from me.
It's why I no longer engage in conversations about race/ethnicity/social power constructs.
Deep appreciation.

the kind where 2 identical resumes are submitted for a job and the one with John as the name gets called back 8x more often than the one with Juan as the name, even though the resumes are exactly the same.. or substitute Emily or Katie and Deja or Ebony.. I don't know if I can completely agree with you, but I'm sure it happens. And can we accurately say "8 times more often"? I'm honestly curious if there is hard data on that. I've been on the hiring side of things, multiple times for the companies I've worked for. And I'm talking big corporate entities. I can honestly say, I've never once seen somebody at least openly say or even suggest, "I prefer this guy over that guy because that guy's name sounds foreign/urban." Again, I'm not suggesting that's always the case. Just in my limited experience. The closest to it I've seen comes when it gets to the face-to-face interview portion of it, and one person clearly lacks the skills in English to effectively communicate with everyone else. At that point it becomes, "The resume's are similar, but we can have effective communication with this person". Now what I HAVE seen is managers say openly that we should interview candidate X over Y specifically because candid X was a minority and they wanted "diversity" on our team. They didn't care that Y's resume was slightly better. I've also seen a female manager not very discretely prefer female candidates to male ones when hiring new employees. Things where if the roles were reversed, people would quickly scream "discrimination". I've also had an African-American roommate who I worked with that told me he had no shortage of job offerings because companies more or less told him it was hard to find minorities with engineering degrees and it made their "diversity numbers" look better to get him on-board. Maybe it's different depending on the industry you deal with. But I'm just letting you know what I've seen in my experience.

I think the topic is actually should Juan get favoritism over John in terms of test scores because of his race that's not based on merit.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I'd take it a step further and say anybody who does think Juan or Jamal should get favoritism over John or Kim because of their race, can no longer credibly claim that they believe in equality. That is not equality. It is reverse blatant discrimination.

If only they were twins. Once you've seen Juan, you've seen Jamal.
As for the afirmative action thing, I've seen it be a hugh detriment. The shipyards in my area do hire with race based quotas. When they hire people that do not do well on the aptitude tests into a position they didn't earn, that person has less of a chance of completing their training, and therefore becomes a waste of time and money. To top it off, another person did not get that apprenticeship due to a race based hiring system. There is just a lot of waste built into those hiring practices.

I understand that they're from the article, but it's not like minorities with anglo-saxon originating names are non-discriminated against. I find this topic funny because no one even wants to talk about the concept of affirmative action in our economy and what that means. AA is so people in lower social classes have a shot against people from higher social classes. It gets broken down into race due centuries of minorities being heavily marginalized in this country (and still are) and being forced into the lower class. Justice has to be done for their ancestors, especially with how depraved Americans acted back then. But if people support social mobility and the American way then they support affirmative action. I'm surprised people haven't offered a solution to due it based on income.

I'm surprised people haven't offered a solution to due it based on income. I would prefer to just cut to the chase and say black, hispanic, white, asian instead of the names Jamal, Juan, John, and Kim, but I was just going along with somewhat stereotypical ethnic names. Clearly there is going to be some overlap there. Anyway, if AA were directly based of social class or socioeconomic status or similar, it would at least make some sense. It would still have a critical flaw or two (the explanation for which would require a separate, lengthy explanation) but at least it would be consistent with the objective of elevating the lower class and putting them on an even playing field or what have you. As it stands right now, affluent blacks/hispanics are basically double dipping-- having the advantage of high social class along with a large artificial bump from affirmative action, while poor whites/asians are doubly screwed-- having the disadvantage of low social class along with artificial penalties based on their ancestry. It's not right! What happened to judging based on the content of the character, and not the color of the skin?

Maybe affluent minorities are double dipping. But I wonder if they could ascertain the highest echelons of America without it. We've had 50 years of affirmative action, but only two black people to ever receive votes from the electoral college ever in America and all three came after 2008 (bonus points for whoever knows the third guy's name). Maybe their race gave them very few opportunities to really better themselves into the echelons of the Kennedy's, Bush's, Trump's and Clinton's. Your entire argument relies on this false assumption that being a minority is a large factor in things. Take this case for example. Have you ever been to UT Austin? It's pretty white and hispanic. Here's the full demographics: Ethnicity/Race White: 43.3% Hispanic: 20.0% Asian: 17.8% Foreign: 10.1% Black: 3.9% 2 or more (excl. Hispanic/Black): 2.6% While hispanics compose 37% of Texas, they are underrepresented as are the white (52%) and black (11%). Asians compose up to 3% of the population, but are overrepresented at the University. Your theoretical example that Asians are screwed because of affirmative action is completely untrue. Because your idea that affirmative action is some sort of automatic acceptance/denial is out of touch with reality. It's been shown that if Abigail Fisher was black or hispanic, she still wouldn't have gotten into UT Austin. This false assumption that affirmative action is some mystical force that opens doors for everyone is a joke. And personally, I would rather give away whatever affirmative action privilege I have to be treated like a human by a cop without me needing to convince him I'm just a normal dude and not a threat to his safety.

I'm surprised people haven't offered a solution to due it based on income. Look, I get what you're saying, and I understand the plight of many minorities that are born into poverty, and have very difficult path ahead to improve their situation. But you are also looking at it like that is the case for all minorities, while all whites get a free path to college. That is what Haus is alluding to. I would absolutely support an upward social mobility program, but with two caveats: That it would be color-blind and that the people that take the incentives work hard to keep them. (Wasn't there a former Brown that paid for the college of a dozen or so low-income students that maintained straight A's all throughout their last few years. I give a standing ovation to something like that.) But social mobility also requires a bit of work. You can't just have it handed to someone and expect it to work. I came from a low-middle income family. While I understand that I didn't have to dodge crime and avoid gangs to go to school, I also didn't get any sort of outside advantage in getting an education. When I got to the college level, the only financial aid I got was a Pell Grant (which everyone gets) and approval for a couple of federal student loans. I was basically told that I wasn't poor enough to get any more help and I wasn't in any sort of special minority group to get any advantages there. I bought a "Book of scholarships" that was the size of a phone book and listed all available scholarships that people could apply for. I would estimate that over half of the scholarships in the book were for some sort of minority group. and just about every other one was for people of a specific state, location or organization. Of the entire phone book, I think I qualified for maybe 10 scholarships. Naturally, I applied and was rejected for all of them. To pay for college, I ended up having to work three jobs at a time, while taking on quite a bit of loan debt.

So whites, being the largest part of the population will have more people born into poverty with no chance to escape.
Why do you wish to help a minority of those in need while punishing the majority of those in need?

I got news for you.
Racism against whites is firmly entrenched in our government.
I am fervently learning Spanish (every day for a year now).
I can’t wait until I have to call Social Security.
In the past, I’ve been on hold waiting for a live person for as long as an hour.
“Para española marque dos.”
“For spanish, dial two.”
I can’t wait until the day comes when I can confidently press #2 on my cellphone.
It’s my guess the wait is nil if you hable española.

I wonder if UT Austin lets folks in from every part of Texas or out of state or out of the country ... cause if they do allow folks from other places to attend .. not sure what there demographics have to do with those that attend .. kinda makes his entire post ... Irrelevant ...
PS. Someone may want to let him know that oBUMa is 1/2 white ... they always seem to forget that part ... *shrugs* ...

10% of their student population comes from out of the country, so I'm going to assume only 10% of their school is from Texas. Do you know how colleges work, Diam? Unlike collages they're very straightforward. A college resides in a state. That college tries to serve that state's needs and the people of that state. The state government helps these universities so these universities to help them. State universities usually compose of 80% of instate students, because the university is taking care of that state. So Texas demographics, unlike your posts, is still relevant. It's also laughable to think that the Republican bastion, their first and only argument about conservative states, has a large demographic difference than the national demographics.
PS: Someone may want to teach this kid about the 1% rule. You can never take his ignorance for granted.

I don't think all whites get a free path to college. I think more whites per capita get an easier path to college than most minorities. It's also not like minorities get a discounted rate or more grant money from the government or the college. FASFA does not take into account race. I also find your thoughts that people who receive affirmative action must not let it go to waste, as these people are all equally as qualified as their white counterparts.

Even back then we had stats .. and if 80% or even 90% are from Texas .. it makes the Texas residency demographics USELESS unless u adjust for it ... guess they didn't have stat classes where u went .. or u were busy taking the "how to become a liberal snowflake and blame it all on the evil white man" classes .... Not sure what the 1% rule is .. i'll go to your bible .. GOOGLE .... *LOL* .... but i do know the difference between .. White Black MIXED RACE ... Go to your bible and google it ... maybe you'l learn sumptin about your boy and his racial make up .. or maybe not ...

My bad, I meant one drop rule. Not one percent.
Also cute how you're trying to throw out the demographics of Texas, but jut want to adjust 10% of the demographics just to try to prove some point. What point are you trying to prove with an adjustment to 10% of the state population? What do you think it would change? A lower percentage of hispanics? A larger percentage of black people and white people? What's your point? The representation really doesn't change.
I'm sure you made a very pretty collage before I was born. I hope the collage was titled and spelled correctly so that you can easily find it. Because it seems like you don't know much. Maybe you should try to google more things. Better yet, install a spell checker. You'll save me and many others, hours of grief over deciphering your gobbledygook.

[quote] I don't think all whites get a free path to college. I think more whites per capita get an easier path to college than most minorities. [quote]
Are you freaking kidding me! In 2017?
Hey why not do an internet search to see if you can find an organization to help a white person with any part of their life, based on the their heritage, and see what you find.
After sifting through at least 17 organizatons to help the person of another race, you will find a "hate group" on page 4 or 5. And I'm not talking about looking for a hate group, I'm talking about looking for a group to help one get ahead in the struggles of life.
Here's a breakdown.
Let's say, there are 400,000 elite in the USA, and they are 90% white; (or were at one time), and that's a problem, But there are 340 million people in America, and lets say 60,million + the 396,000 of them are white.
Well what about the Other 60 million whites, we should lump them in with the 396,000, and say each and ever one of them has life handed to them and no struggle in life, and also, if anyone else of the 270 million americans stuggle, well then we must help them because they aint one of those 60.5 million.
But Hey! I don't want to end affirmative action. I just want the government to stop celebrating anyone for being the first black President, or black history month, because if we are all of the same, one inoccous race that has no definition, then it shouldn't matter.
But , the local- to national news, which we all know is a tool of the government, puts up "giddy" new anchors to celebrate these things.
( and to my mind, the fact that these Anchors celebrate blacks for achievement, is the height of racism, against blacks, because if you really think of them equally, if you really equally love them, if you really believe their ability to live life as a person is 100, as we all do, then there is no reason to celebrate)
But to celebrate someone for achievement, is to single them out as you didn't believe they were able, you didn't think they were 100, so you have to pat them on the back for doing well, which is degrading, (to me) degrading as heck, and sickening.
Oh, and I use the word "black" because I was over 20 years old before ANYBODY! ANYBODY ON EARTH EVER ONCE USED THE WORD AFRICAN AMERICAN! (find it before 1991) And I learned why the older generation used "colored" sometimes, and I wondered why, .. But what is that, how can you let the racist elite government define what you are as a label and go along with it and change it every 30 years? That, is also degrading.
I love my neighbors, I hate this celebrating anyone for their race. But this doesn't change the problem, the 400,000 elites are, or were 90% white, which is a problem.
But the Government doesn't have to use every T.V. station to keep promoting racism, every time they claim to be working to end it. We really are all 100, In 2017 America, pfft, since 1980 America at least, or before, and it's the greatest place to be on earth, and if everybody were/is the one same race and we are all equal on our merits:
edit: Society was holding people back, prior to that, but people have always been equally abled. But Now society is holding everyone back.

So whites, being the largest part of the population will have more people born into poverty with no chance to escape.
Why do you wish to help a minority of those in need while punishing the majority of those in need? I'm not sure I can answer that. Well perhaps you can tell us why you support a program that hurts more people than it helps? I cannot do that since it does not.

The smug bigotry of Trump-hatersThey told me if I vote for Donald Trump we would be overwhelmed with bigotry the likes of which we have never seen before. And, boy, were they right. Little did we know, however, those obsessed in their opposition to Mr. Trump were actually speaking about themselves. Last week was a banner one for anti-Trump bigotry. During a briefing at the White House detailing President Trump’s new immigration plan giving priority to those who, among other things, speak English, Jim Acosta, CNN’s White House correspondent, responded, “This whole notion of they have to learn English before they get to the United States, are we just going to bring in people from Great Britain and Australia?” Mr. Acosta was widely panned for the ignorance of the remark, but it’s also an example of Michael Gerson’s phrase, “the soft bigotry of low expectations.” Coined when he was President George W. Bush’s speechwriter, it perfectly describes the smug attitude of the elite expecting the downtrodden to automatically fail, and their perpetual need for government to save them from themselves. This cosmopolitan deceit proclaims The Other as infant, perpetually unable to help themselves. Stephen Miller, the president’s aide, immediately confronted Mr. Acosta’s casual contempt. “This is an amazing moment,” he said, “that you think only people from Great Britain or Australia would speak English is so insulting to millions of hardworking immigrants who do speak English from all over the world.” Exactly, but it was even more than that. Not only was he wrong on the fact of the matter (54 sovereign states have English as their official language), the soft bigotry comes in the form of expecting non-Western individuals to not be able to cope, adjust or deliver when a requirement is made of them. This cosmopolitan deceit proclaims The Other as infant, perpetually unable to help themselves. Mr. Acosta is not alone when it comes to thinly-veiled contempt of those unlike society’s all-knowing benefactors. Stuart Rothenberg, a Trump hater and pollster with “Inside Elections,” which bills itself as a provider of “nonpartisan analysis,” tweeted this during President Trump’s rally in West Virginia: “Lots of people in West Virginia can't support themselves or speak English.” When confronted on Twitter about the true nature of the good, hardworking West Virginians, he agreed but then insisted they are also “close-minded, provincial, angry & easily misled.” Soft bigotry isn’t the purview of liberals alone. Ironically, it appears to be an affliction of many, including those in the Republican establishment, who are the most fervent at warning people about Mr. Trump’s supposed evil, bigoted bias. In February 2016 the National Review delivered their now infamous “Never Trump” issue. One month later Kevin Williamson, their “roving correspondent,” wrote about rust-belt, white working-class support for Trump: “The truth about these dysfunctional, downscale communities is that they deserve to die. Economically, they are negative assets. Morally, they are indefensible. Forget all your cheap theatrical Bruce Springsteen crap. Forget your sanctimony about struggling Rust Belt factory towns… The white American underclass is in thrall to a vicious, selfish culture whose main products are misery and used heroin needles. Donald Trump’s speeches make them feel good. So does OxyContin.” For millions of people in this country, it’s the overbearing and incompetent government bureaucracy that steals the future from people, sucking every ounce of hope from their lives. Mr. Williamson’s disturbing sanctimony did do one thing—exposed how disconnected even the ‘conservative’ establishment had become from the heart of this nation, and explains in part why we have President Trump and not President Jeb. It’s no wonder we don’t want the so-called “elites” controlling our health care, managing foreign policy or determining who gets in this country and why. Americans are now partisans for the country, their own families and the future, and a vote for Trump in 2016 is the result of that commitment. In the meantime, Trump-haters on both sides of the aisle will keep pointing at the president and his team as the problem. They are wrong and will continue to fail, reminding us every day the importance of having a President Trump. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/08/07/smug-bigotry-trump-haters.html

They are wrong and will continue to fail, reminding us every day the importance of having a President Trump. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/08/07/smug-bigotry-trump-haters.html I saw this unfold and Jim Acosta was in no way being a bigot. He called this absurd legislation out for its bias and in usual Trumpian manner, the cult twist the truth into an alternate reality they can live with. This president and his cult of twitter followers are bigots in many many ways, they are everything they've been called, period. Now get back in the basket basket because playtime is over. Fact #1 - Trumps numbers are down, period, and ALL of the polls agree. Fact #2 - An immigration requirement of speaking english BEFORE coming here heavily favors english speaking countries. Not all, but a majority of english speaking countries are predominately white. Fact #3 - Every article posted by 40 in support of all things Trump, tends to have a strong Trump bias, contains twisted facts from the Trump bubble, strikes out at what THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS believe, and is a waste of digital space. Fact #4 - Liberals like me will NEVER accept the bigoted things this administration is trying to incorporate into legislation and we'll fight tooth and nail to oppose it. With a minority in both houses and the White House being occupied by a wannabe political strongman, the liberals have sparked political activism in the common sense left leaning majority of average Americans and that majority is ruling the country at the moment. They do not have the power to pass good legislation, but they have more than enough power to stop the bad legislation.
