Have to keep in mind what stage they are in, its a process and its a long pre-season. Who they are now and their level of play isn't necessarily who they'll be next week or week 1 of the regular season.

Too early for me to make any kind of definitive cumulative conclusions other then what I saw from this scrimmage...

i guess you could say the QBs looked like trash and you would be right i guess but to me the why/what happened is more important

anyhow, i though Brockwieler looked decent enough to wonder what he would have looked like if he was out there with the 1st unit tonight

I don't know how mary kay keeps saying Kiser is ready to take over. He looked pretty bad, at least while I watched.

I'm not exactly an authority on QB play, but it looked to me that Kessler had the worst showing of the 4.

Oswieler - looked in command of his offense, though nothing spectacular
Hogan - performed adequately
Kizer - looked good in the pocket, too many off target throws
Kessler - took too long to make decisions

Hope not to see Jerry Jones overkill like yesterday. I want to see two solid lines playing hard.

No injuries.

Points on the board.

Player that stood out to me:

"White team" Receiver Jordan Leslie

6'3--215

2014: Played in 13 games, recording 55 receptions for 779 yards and six touchdowns. 2013 (at UTEP): Led UTEP with 44 receptions for 612 yards and seven touchdowns. Graduated from UTEP with a degree in electrical engineering. 2012 (at UTEP): Had 51 catches for 973 yards and six touchdowns. 2011 (at UTEP): Had 20 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns.

Pro Day Results
40-yard dash: 4.41 and 4.46 seconds
Vertical jump: 36 inches
Broad jump: 10 feet, 10 inches
Short shuttle: 4.08 seconds
3-cone: 6.87 seconds
Bench: 18 reps of 225 pounds

Analysis

Strengths Able to adjust and go get low throws. Varies speed in his routes and can lull cornerbacks to sleep and get over top of them. Has a turbo button he can call on to chase down the deep ball. Very good ball tracker and can make over-the-shoulder catches. Flashes ability as a route runner who can frustrate cornerbacks with more complex routes. Physical and highly competitive after catch. Can make defenders miss after catch and chalk up yards after catch. Won't give cornerbacks an easy tackle once contact is made.

Weaknesses

Body catcher. Allows throws into his frame. Won't show top speed in routes unless he's going vertical. Can get more push on cornerbacks if he learns to play faster off the snap. Needs to improve consistency of effort when asked to block. Will round off routes at times, opening door for aggressive cornerbacks to jump the route.

Draft Projection Round 6 or 7

Bottom Line Possesses NFL size and timed speed and must prove to teams that he can consistently play to the speed. His choppy footwork helps him play with adequate short-area quickness in his routes, but he must play with more consistent hands. Leslie's NFL traits give him a good shot of hearing his named called on Day 3 and making an NFL roster.

The live look ins from the NFL channel were good, hard to watch on the app, 2nd half was better watching.

Out of the 4, imo BO looked the best to me. Garrett, Dayes, and Leslie looked good.

3rd series-Hogan (#1 Def 2nd series)

Schobert +1 pressure off the (R) edge unblocked

Boddy+Campbell +1 tackle (59:31)

announcers mention that coaches say Campbell is having a good camp and that Peppers is at single post FS on that play

Cam Johnson, Shelton, Campbell + Garrett in on tackle

Cam Johnson + Garrett +1 pressure +1 sack

Peppers explosive and elusive on punt return if it was truly live he probably doesn't get stoppped by that touch tackle

4th series-Kizer (#2 def)

Why call the WR reverse pass? how does that help you evaluate?

Alexander miss -1 / -.5 on dive tackle
Peppers nice clean-up tackle looked like McGee ducked under it so he didn't get blowed up +1 (~1:05)

-1:06:15
someone broke free up the middle for a pressure that should probably be counted as a sack....

Jordan Leslie nice catch adjustment on a crossing type route

Didn't get a chance to read any posts.

QBs: Obviously Brock looked real good as he seemed in control and was reading the D well. Until he got in the red zone then his inefficiencies reared up POOF all of a sudden he was not accurate and did not make the good reads. So don't know what to think of him.

Kessler did not look great although he had only one real series with the wind to his back. The first series it was a run run and then 3rd and long...punt with the wind to the back.
Then it was the 2nd half he got the wind to his back and made some plays nothing really long and then punted. But I would say over all he was mediocre.

Kizer - I liked him but he still is Raw...when he gets it man...I think he is the real deal.

I know Leslie did well but Hall is my guy from that bunch of WRs.

DeValve was not targeted much but man does he look good!
Njoku is very raw...I don't see him doing much this season.

Very impressed with Peppers...this kid is special as is Garrett.

Like Schobert (sp) at Mike over Carder. Good speed for sideline to sideline!

Kirksey is ok. Collins looked solid.

Welcome back Haden even though he dropped an INT in the End Zone he looked real good!

OL did well actually I was surprised at much of the 2nd unit.
Even Erving did well subbing for Joe Thomas at LT.

Greco with that 2nd unit.

Wild I liked at RB over Magee.

The kid Holt at TE has kept himself in the running to possibly make the roster.

Crowell is a beast.

Like Duke as a WR.

jmho all in all pretty good and also shows we still need a LOT OF WORK. Best yet nobody got injured!

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off!

This annual scrimmage is probably the worst event with which to judge the talent level of the young players on the roster.

It is a scrimmage where one of the main goals is to not get your players injured, while attempting to put a viewable product on the field for entertainment.

JMO, but to move Kizer to the starting QB position based on the performances last night would be a questionable move. I'm not sure Kizer has done enough in 1 week to merit being named the #1 QB this soon.

...but that is the move many believe is going to take place..we shall see.

Brock was clearly the best QB on the field.

Leslie looked really good.

The defense looks like it may be the real deal, some nice run stuffs.

Crow really only had the one big run, but it was a nice one.

I want to see more of Kai Nacua and Boddy-Calhoun.

Is it me or is Corey Coleman practically invisible? (Except in the passing game where we find out he should never throw the ball again.) I know he had one catch but still...

Garrett is flat out fun to watch, though I do have to say it's hard to judge his two sacks (four?) as being actual sacks playing touch football against scrubs.

Holding penalties and false starts. rolleyes

I know it's vanilla time, but I wanted to see Duke & Dayes live up to some of the hype we've been hearing.

Peppers had a couple nice plays.

Nice pressure from the D-line several times, but again, the ones against the twos... and on the flip side, it's wasn't much different with the twos against the ones.

Kessler hasn't changed a bit. He's still less than mediocre.

Kizer looks the part, but is raw and very inaccurate at times. One of his best completions was a wobbler. Is it mechanics or speed of the game or simply being new?

I think our LB corps may be okay with Collins, Kirksey & Carder/Shobert.

I think our secondary is making strides. They seem to be playing faster and covering better.

That's all I can think of right now.

I know it's early, but I agree Brock's the best so far. Maybe Kizer will start to come on, still have a long pre-season to go.

He is the best so far and I've been saying it right along. He also has the most experience and in a critical spot in a game it could make a difference. It sounds to me that some of my fellow posters loathe the idea of Brock starting. IMO if he gives us the best chance of winning start him, no problem with it. Have Cody as #2 and sit DK and let him learn. Hopefully, DK is our future QB. When he is ready put him in, no sooner unless it is the last series or 2 of a decided game.

It was one scrimmage ... a glorified practice in pads ... wouldn't read much into it ... my critique ...

At QB my worst fears played out for the evening ... BO played the best .. the bar wasn't set very high ...

- last night Kizer was no where's near ready ... he STUNK .. it was one scrimmage and he's a rook .. he played as bad as I've ever seen him ... usually he has at least a few good/great throws mixed in with the bad decisions and innacuracy ... he had not one good throws and all the bad stuff was there for all to see ...

If we have a QB on our roster ... its him ... it was one scrimmage and he's a rookie ...

I still hope he sits ... he needs TIME ...

- BO was our best last night but he wasn't very good ... my worst fear ... he had a few nice throws and a few bad ones ... i guess folks are giddy about what he did cause the bar was set so low ...

- CK didn't impress ... he had one good throw and that was it ... on the 3rd and short play the ball has to get out of his hands asap especially when he sees the unblocked blitzes ... he has to throw that ball ... he didn't and it was a sack .. the rest of the sacks weren't cause he held the ball to long ..

If I had to choose a started based off last night it would clearly be BO ... thats not good .. he still STINKS ... *LOL* ..

What really worried me about the glimpse that last night was ... the struggle of the first team OL against the 2nd team DL .. we ran on 1st and 2nd down on the first series and 3rd series ... i know on the first series we gained either zero or a -1 yards ... On the 3rd series we gained 5 or 6 yards on the two runs ... so one 4 runs we gained 6 yards at most ... against our 2nd team front 7 .. NOT GOOD ...

The other part that worried me was the 2nd team OL ran the ball rather affectively against the 1st team s front 7 ...

Again it was just a glimpse ... i won't read much into it ... BUT IT CERTAINLY WASN'T WHAT U WANT TO SEE!!

Man is MG quick around the edge ... thumbsup

Peppers made himself noticeable ...

Lets see whats next .... Sept. can't get here quick enough for me ...

I don't know I thought Hogan looked good throwing the ball. He seemed to be throwing it with some authority but like all the rest he had problems with accuracy in the redzone. I honestly don't like any of our qbs at this point.

I just finished watching the replay again and I can't disagree with your take, above.

I will point out that the defense took advantage of the fact that they have seen the plays the offense was running, lord knows how many times in practice.

...all our QB seemed to be throwing into coverage as defensive backs were covering like All Pros. No, the DBs are not that good..they know the pass routes the offenses were running and they did take advantage.

Still, a lot of work to do...

a few quick things I observed:

- Peppers has POP and suddenness ... way more than I thought
- Garrett is going to be good ... he's so bendy
- Leslie looks like our best WR (and reports have indicated that as well)
- Hall might also be one of our top guys, they've made it a point to get him targets
- Glad to hear Kirksey is okay
- Matt Dayes WILL be on our roster, and might be more effective/productive than people anticipate

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
