I know it was one quarter of the first preseason game but Desmond was not impressive. Hopefully he turns it around.

This kid Coley has been great, got to believe Williams has to love him. He makes things happen and puts the emphasis on "ATTACK" Defense!

I'm thinking Coley makes the 53. I just can't hear enough about him and he had that strip ball recovered by Nassib in the Saints game.

We'll cut some really, really good players there on the defensive line. Can't keep everyone unfortunately.

there's no doubt Coley and Currie are on track to make the 53 ... two guys who I literally had never heard of 2 weeks ago

Well there is the (obvious) rub. As the team improves, some tough choices will need to be made. That simply is the nature of the beast...

Maybe if another team really needs some D-line help we can swing a trade with them rather than just cutting someone and said team taking a chance they won't be able to pick one of our D-lineman up.

which DL would you have in mind? Who is good enough (that we deem expendable) to warrant a trade?

I don't know about trading him, but I doubt that Bryant makes this team. Too much high quality depth at the DT position to keep a 31 year old DL who is coming off a major injury.

Erving has sucked at every position he's played so far. If he survives the cuts he'll be a lucky guy.

I didn't think Erving would be on the team last year, let alone this year. Hue likes something about him.

I'm not so sure that he likes him as much as they see enough to want to make sure they give him every chance possible before giving up on him - not matter what, he was a high draft pick; ya gotta make sure you've exhausted opportunities before you give up.

Yeah, they had to give him a shot at center last year. His chances may be running out soon, though.

I also have a comment about Dez. I think he is a good football player and don't get why so many our always down on him. What have the two rookies done to make you guys think they are better than Bryant?

I wouldn't be shocked if the Browns cut Dez, because after all, they are the Browns. I just think it would be dumb.

What I don't get is Hue mentioned in one of his early early pressers that Erving was moved around on the line, and that that was one of the issues contributing to his poor performance (guard -> center -> tackle).

And what does Hue do for his first preseason game? Moves him from RT to LT.... I don't get it...

He does actually show some good film. He just has rocks in his head. I think that he panics too. If you notice, his brain farts seem to happen in the beginning of games or the beginning of the second half. It's like he's trying so hard not to screw up that he is not concentrating on the things that will keep him from screwing up.

I like Dez too, but he is on the wrong side of 30 and we do have a bunch of young and cheaper talent on the D-line.

Also mac brought up a good point that Dez went to Harvard and this team is full of a bunch of football guys that would never put up with a Harvard boy.

I don't think a lot of people are down on him. Most just speculate that he can be in trouble because of his age and the fact we have young depth. I agree that the rooks haven't done anything yet, but I can't see too many front offices cutting draft picks that aren't horrid to start.

I don't think it's the drafted guys that are threatening his status, it's the UDFA Trevon Coley.

I agree Coley is pushing him for the starting job, but it is the rookies that might force him off the roster. I still think Bryant is one of our better 3 techniques.

Quote:
Quarterback

A.J. McCarron, Bengals
Brock Osweiler, Browns

Although the Bengals haven’t openly shopped A.J. McCarron, they haven’t completely sealed off the idea of dealing their backup quarterback. The asking price is extremely high, however, as Cincinnati reportedly wants a first-round draft choice for McCarron. An unidentified team offered a second-rounder for McCarron this offseason, and the Bengals declined, an indication of the value the club places on McCarron."<strong

Most likely, Cincinnati will need an injury to strike — and a club to get desperate — in order to meet its demands. In 2016, for example, the Vikings shipped a first-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for Sam Bradford after incumbent signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater went down. That situation presented the perfect opportunity for Philadelphia to reap compensation for Bradford, as Minnesota was a contending team with an immediate need under center. Bradford offered much more NFL experience than does McCarron, so a trade of the Bengals No. 2 quarterback remains unlikely.

Brock Osweiler, meanwhile, has a chance to act as the Browns’ Week 1 starter, but he’s not a long-term option for a club that used a second-round pick on DeShone Kizer. Cleveland has already rejected at least one trade offer for Osweiler this offseason, but it simply doesn’t make sense for the team to retain him on their roster. Having already acquired a second-round choice in exchange for taking on Osweiler’s contract, the Browns should convert most of his base salary guarantee into a signing bonus (thus reducing the cap hit for any interested parties) and send him to a quarterback-needy club.

Quote:
Offensive line

John Greco, Browns
Jason Kelce, Eagles
Offensive linemen are tough to acquire this late in the offseason given that continuity is such a large part of the front five, but trades do happen: Just last week, the Eagles shipped guard Allen Barbre to the Broncos, and he’s already taking starting snaps. Another Philadelphia lineman, center Jason Kelce, has been on the trade block for some time, but the Eagles may not want to make any more offensive line trades after moving Barbre. Kelce has four years remaining on his contract, but an acquiring club wouldn’t be taking on any guarantees. The Ravens, who desperately need help on the interior, should see if Kelce is still available.

Quote:
Defensive back

Delvin Breaux, Saints
Kyle Fuller, Bears
Joe Haden, Browns
Trumaine Johnson, Rams
Kenny Vaccaro, Saints
Delvin Breaux admittedly wouldn’t have been on this list before a report indicating that the Saints are in fact shopping him, and while New Orleans has a bit more cornerback depth after selecting Marshon Lattimore in the first round, it doesn’t make much sense to trade Breaux when his value is at its lowest following an injury-plagued 2016 campaign. Vaccaro, on the other hand, is coming off his third excellent season in four years and has only one year left on his deal. If the Saints don’t reach an extension with him before the season, they could explore trading Vaccaro, especially after using second-round picks on Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams in 2016 and 2017, respectively."<strong

The Rams have been discussing a Trumaine Johnson trade ever since placing the franchise tag on him in March, but despite reported interest from the Browns, Saints, and Steelers, no deal has been made. Johnson is now the league’s highest-paid corner after being franchised for two consecutive seasons, and Los Angeles doesn’t appear likely to retain him beyond 2017. Still, the Rams might be reticent to trade Johnson after dealing fellow corner E.J. Gaines to the Bills last week.

Kyle Fuller missed all of last season with a knee injury, and the Bears are counting on him for next season (or thereafter). Chicago signed free agents Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper this offseason, and subsequently declined Fuller’s 2018 fifth-year option. A rival club could be willing to take a chance on his draft pedigree, but his recent injury history could scare teams off.

I think you would have to consider what our options were last year. We signed a C, (the position Erving was drafted for), as well as a good G. While I certainly don't believe that Coleman is the answer at RT, he's certainly a better option than Erving.

With the upgrades to our OL and the fact that Erving will be no more than a back-up, it makes him far more expendable than last year IMO

Depth-chart oddity: Nate Orchard still listed third-string at DE; yet, Gregg Williams talked today as if he'll be a big part of September.

Only change on #Browns 2d depth chart: Justin Currie moves to No 1 strong safety w Ibraheim Campbell in protocol.

While I agree with you in theory, trades are based on other trades at the same position for bargaining position.

count me in the group that wants to keep Greco. Good versatility, experience, consistence. unless of course he's not recovered and/or won't be

LOL...I think it might have a little to due with being thrown in battle after missing a dozen camp days.

Probably needed extended time in the ice tank...
