Reminder people, do not look at the sun without proper eyewear. I've heard of people losing some of their sight from an eclipse.

If you plan to travel, make sure you have gas, food, and patience on the roads.

Be safe out there

Already purchased several pairs of glasses. Luckily we live in Columbia, SC which is one of [I believe] only 14 locations where there will be a "total eclipse." Very excited.

It's gonna be a par-tay!

They are pre-empting my soap for this.

Eclipses are cool, but cmon man. Its not like we're gonna spend hours staring at the sun.

Any idea where to get glasses?

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I got mine from Amazon, but here is an article that provides a list of retailers. Just be careful because there are "fake" eclipse glasses out there.

Better hurry, the ones I bought are sold out.

I picked up an eclipse "eye protection" helmet with eye attachment.

Guaranteed you won't miss the eclipse. Ever.

Actually in Connecticut we're only getting something like a 67% eclipse.

I live about 50 miles from totality. I think we'll get like 98% here...still don't have glasses. May just take my welding mask to work with me.

Most places will be sold out of glasses by now. If you find them, expert a huge mark up(seen some going for $60). Try craigslist, my friend found someone with some that was still selling for $5.

It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

I saw the Eclipse in 1979 and it only lasted several minutes.

Well, Columbia is one of only 14 cities where there will be a full eclipse, so I can understand the excitement.

I'm excited. We're going to party.

You must be talking "major cities". It's crossing something like a 3000 mile swatch across the country. So there's no shortage of places to catch it:

I wanted to go so badly. I even knew about this 2 years ago. I had a way to reserve a cheap hotel in St. Louis too....but my kid is starting school in a new city and my wife got called away to work in San Diego. Oh well.

There will be another in 2 years I think (Texas to Ohio)

Do not use your welding mask to try and look at the sun, not safe. Optometrists may be very busy in the coming weeks.

I have a shade 12 helmet. I've read it's fine. Shade 14 would be best.

Very good, be safe. I don't want to condone homemade eclipse eyewear, but I heard if you can see your hands in front of your glasses, that's not good enough.

Just want to preach safety

2024 (Apr 8th). I've already asked some relatives for a room to stay.

I'm thinking about using my camera to get a look at it, and take pictures. I would think that looking at it on the screen would be safe.

It can ruin your camera unless you have a solar filter. Gonna be calling the local camera shop today to see if they have any that fit my lenses left.

I have a pair of glasses that came with my laser engraver that I'm going to use, dark like a welding mask. Just want everybody to be careful, some of the glasses being sold will not protect you at all.

Make sure it's a shade 12 to 14. Any less and it won't be effective enough at protecting your eyes.

This one is NASA:

P.S. It is odd, I live right on Lake Shore Blvd. in Euclid. I've never heard traffic this quiet out there, unless it's Christmas day. It's not dead quiet, but quiet for a Monday.
