Never understood the Watkins love, I said his ceiling was Santonio Holmes at draft time. Seems to be holding up.

I was never a big fan of Sammy, but that is a very interesting comparison.

I think Watkins can be a Torry Holt type WR when healthy. You need a QB with a cannon for an arm to get him the ball though.

As a Bills fan also, Sammy has game changing talent, his foot is always an issue. Darby is a good player, plus Sammy was bolting after this season so I see why the Bills moved on. The Bills FO is making the Browns look like The Pats as of late.

Jordan Matthews suffers possible chest injury in 1st practice with Bills+

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/20333...al-chest-injury

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills wide receiver Jordan Matthews, practicing Sunday for the first time since he was acquired Friday in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, is being evaluated for a potential chest injury.

It is unclear when Matthews suffered the injury in Sunday's practice. He finished the session and later left the field with a trainer. He was not made available to reporters because of the injury.

Matthews took first- and second-team reps Sunday and saw his first work with quarterback Tyrod Taylor since the Bills traded cornerback Ronald Darby to the Eagles for Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick. In a separate deal Friday, Buffalo dealt top receiver Sammy Watkins and a 2018 sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for a 2018 second-round pick and cornerback E.J. Gaines.

Coach Sean McDermott said before Sunday's practice that he would like to have Matthews play in Thursday's preseason game in Philadelphia.

Veteran Shareece Wright took first-team reps in Darby's place Sunday but left with an injury to his right thumb and did not return. Greg Mabin replaced Wright with the first-team defense for the remainder of practice.

Jordan Matthews fractures sternum in practice

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I had a friend who fractured his sternum on a trampoline (they are death traps). It was a brutal injury to recover from.

Reports are that he'll only be out a few weeks, but that seems very short to me.

I read somewhere that they categorized it as a chip, so I'm not sure of the severity of the injury.

Jordan Matthews - WR - Bills

New Bills WR Jordan Matthews is "week to week" with a "chip fracture in his sternum."

Matthews suffered the injury less than 15 minutes into his first practice with the team on Sunday. "Week to week" is not a telling timetable, and it is unclear if Matthews will return for Week 1. Even if he does, it sounds like he is going to miss multiple weeks of practice, a major concern as he attempts to settle in with his new team. It is not inconceivable second-rounder Zay Jones opens the season as the No. 1 option.

i was a mason foreman. now our scaffold ladders are connected to the scaffold frames. my knee buckled as i got to the ladder and hit me square center chest and broke my sternum. didn;t miss a day. ribs are way worst for me. now why is a foreman on the scaffold, because i really loved laying brick.

in all the time i was a foreman and i ran my first job as a second year apprentise, i ran close to a billion dollars of work, but i made sure i layed something on every job.

Anquan Boldin decides to retire rather than stay with Bills

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nf...ills/584823001/

Anquan Boldin won't be lining up for the Buffalo Bills this season after all.

The wide receiver has informed the team he is retiring, he told ESPN in a statement.

"Football has afforded me a platform throughout my career to have a greater impact on my humanitarian work, and at this time I feel drawn to make the larger fight for human rights a priority," Boldin said in the statement. " My life's purpose is bigger than football."

Boldin, 36, was expected to bring a veteran presence to the offense after signing with the team on Aug. 7. He had just one catch for 5 yards in Thursday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

"We respect Anquan's decision to retire from the NFL," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said in a statement. "We appreciate the time he gave us over the past two weeks. He is one of the best receivers to play this game and wish him and his family all the best moving forward."

in other words, he sees the season ahead in Buffalo (especially after the trades)

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
