“It's a whole different energy with the whole team, especially on the defense, bringing coach Williams and his staff in,” Boddy-Calhoun said. “It’s just a different feeling after going 1-15, we don't want to get beat up no more.”

I just copied this from the official site, and the last line hit me. These younbg guys get it, and Williams is bringing it out. No more timid defense, time to lay the hurt on teams.

Williams has turned Boddy from Bruce Banner to Incredible Hulk. He's super charged. Love it.

Blitzing in general is successful when you have the players that fit the scheme.

So far in pre-season what has stood out with Williams and the players in his defense is "rush to the ball".

Compared to last year I am seeing more people around the ball and better tackling.

The one thing that I believe we as fans will be able to hang our hats on is the 2018 defense will be vastly improved over last year.

In the Giant game they didn't give them breathing room in any facet of offense. Overall much improved penetration.

I expect this to translate into the regular season.

Been screaming since Butch left that we were slow on both sides of the ball and finally we look fast on defense. Schobert, kirksey and collins are playing incredibly fast. Kindred and Peppers are getting on people in a hurry. Taylor closes almost as quick as Buster did and that says something. Even our front 4 are big powerful group but they get off the snap quickly.

its preseason but there is a big difference in this group than what we have seen since Butch Davis left the building.

Speed on defense is something that has really jumped out on my throughout the 1st 2 games. The other thing on defense that has been very good is the tackling. For the 1st part, when a defender hits the ball carrier, they are stopped right there.

It is hard to know what we have on offense with 60% of the OL out, along with the starting RB. I think that it's fair to say that the offense is behind the defense at this point. Hopefully we see our injured return to health, and start building come continuity there.

I don't like to watch us lose, but hate it even more when you play a punk ass defense.

This guys not going to play that.

The Browns have had very few top defensive teams. I loved the brand of football the Ravens brought, the Bears, the Bucs. They just weren't going to let you score.

Build a D that does that, and you are going to win more games. Don't seek to build a team that can outscore everybody unless you get that special QB.

Keep building a D that can keep people out of the endzone. I don't like dirty play, but I like it right up to the edge, and if you slip over the edge every now and then, that's ok, I can live with that.

I love a team with a D that can totally slap the others team's O around.

I loved Ben Davidson, Ernie Holmes, Jack Tatum, Jack Lambert, Dick Butkus, Ray Lewis....they all played to the edge...I love that.

On O....I loved Hines Ward, and Conrad Dobler.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Guys, it is really, really early.

It's been two preseason games where the starters haven't even played very much.

This to me looks far more like the Browns defense of yest-year than what we have seen in like forever.

I am not a fan of Jeff Fisher and always thought his defenses were cheep shot artists more so than solid football players. That said the culture on the defensive side of the ball needed to change and it appears that William's has brought that change. Kudos to him for that; now can we hold that thought thru the season?

AMEN while it may look a little more like there is reason to hope, it's way to early to be jumping the gun.

Agree, Williams emphasis is make them react to what you are doing, be on their side of ball, cause their mistakes, go 100% of the time...AND raise your hand/get out when tired...we finally have some depth....GO Browns!!!!

Dude, it's 3 games into preseason, I don't know after our first 3 or 4 games of the regular season whether I will have anything to feel good about or not.. so I'm going to enjoy this while I can.

Through 3 weeks, we are 3rd in the NFL in scoring defense, 7th in total defense, and (perhaps the most fun stat) 2nd in the NFL in getting off the field on 3rd down...

I'm going to enjoy the heck out of this for as long as I can...

I'm enjoying it, but we're playing teams that aren't game planning or scheming, opening their play books outside their base defense/offenses and etc.

Enjoy it, as you SHOULD, but don't over enjoy it. There's some great things happening IMO with our defense, if it carries into the regular season then it's time to go nuts with joy.

If our defense is this effective in regular season we are going to be giving numerous teams bloody noses. The chemistry feels right between Hue and Greg. I just want us to start becoming an ''uh oh it's the Browns" on the schedule for offenses. However in this modern day I do wonder how far we can take that laugh

Before we get too excited about the D, now is probably a good time to temper things a bit.

We've been effective against the Saints (without Brees), the Giants (who haven't scored a TD in awhile and have a suspect OL), and TB (without Evans and DJax). Plus, the games don't count yet, and game planning has been minimal.

Signs have been encouraging, and the attitude is great, but let's see if we can do it against Big Ben and his weapons in week 1.

Not to mention, while they have overall been really enjoyable to watch, there have absolutely been some very concerning big plays given up. Not a ton, mind you, but enough to make me pause...

our secondary still scares me.

j/c...

The good thing is our Defense does look good and there is so so much room for improvement. Btw any news on Shelton?

I like our tackling so far and from our DBs as much as others.

The kid Schobert looks like a real find for us. He is going to make a name for himself as this year progresses!

Ogbah is a beast doesn't get the credit he deserves cause all eyes are on Garrett...oh and Grarrett is the real deal thank goodness!

The steal of our 2017 draft just might be Peppers. And this is a totally new position for him. Imagine when he LEARNS it!

jmho - Love our D

I thought that if the first team defense had a weekness in the first half, it was at DT, where Shelton was absent.

Although that improved in the second half vs many that will not be on a team come week one. The rookie's will need some time imo.
