Yeah..............I have hope for both. Just too early to evaluate.
Let me amend that. I am cool w/making observations about all of our guys as we view them on a game-by-game basis. I won't say stupid crap like others have in the past that we can't talk about a player for at least 3 years. I'm okay w/critiquing each performance.
I just think that we should wait awhile before we say "he can cover" or "he can't cover." Much too early for that in my opinion.
Of course, that probably makes me a "bully."

Hell I thought he was the perfect bust scenario. Failed combine drug test. Didn't have a position other than athlete.

Heck, all we can do is wait and see about almost all of our players.
Last year Schobert looked like a bum. Thus far this year, he looks like he could be a force at MLB. Kessler looked like he had some promise, as an upper level backup, if nothing else. He has been a real disappointment thus far this year, though, going from #1 to #3 on the depth chart.
Years 2 and 3 will tell the story on a lot of these guys. We had guys playing with youth and inexperience last year, and mistakes multiplied. This year we have a core of guys who understand how to study for the NFL, now to prepare, how to take what they learn to the field, and they are doing so. (thus far)
I think that next year is really the 1st year we can expect any real level of winning. I fully expect Kizer to struggle early, and the offense, especially, to need time to get into any kind of groove.

As far as I know, there were no drugs found. What was found was too much water. I would think even a diluted sample should show some drugs to be able to call the test a failure. Guess not in the NFL ...

Guess not in the NFL ... Unless I missed something there was no evidence of drugs, only evidence of possible masking, over-hydrating in an attempt to make a urine sample too dilute to test positive. Peppers offered a plausible explanation for his over-hydrating, that he was preparing his body for the rigors of testing at multiple position groups. Accepting that explanation is a matter of personal choice. I have never seen reason to dis-believe it, so I have given it a qualified acceptance; I choose to believe he was clean until I see proof otherwise. So far, I haven't seen any.

If I'm not mistaken he'll be done with Stage 1 of the league substance abuse program by October. We haven't seen even a hint of suspicious activity since he's been here. By this time we had already gone through several questionable episodes with Manziel. Hue gave the team a night off about a week ago, it was beautiful, no drama, no press, no police. That goes for the entire team including rookies who have been viewed with a jaundiced eye.

yeah, he'll be out of stage one fairly soon IIRC
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

S-Peppers, Campbell S-Kindred, Pryor
I feel better about the S spot now then I did at the start of preseason. Even though Gregg uses 'Left/Right' safeties based on pre-season it seems like we'll see Peppers at single post/center field much more often then Kindred to the point that Peppers may as well be considered the FS.

This is not a safety question, but how do you think he incorporates Schobert while keeping both Collins and Kirksey on the field? Rush Collins more (obviously), anything else you can see?

I know you didn't ask me, but I think we'll use Shcobert on first down, second a less than 5, and 3rd and short. I expect him to be out on 2nd and long and 3rd and 4 plus.
Of course, the score of the game and the time remaining changes all of that. He'll play more in games where the other team has a nice lead. He'll play less if it's close down the stretch and might disappear if we ever get a big lead.
Just guessing........

I'm not sure about that. I think he and Kirksey might be the LBs in those situations some of the time with Collins kicking down to pass rush. Honestly hard to tell what GG will do until he does it. Packages will probably vary based on opponent.

We showed the 3-3-5 look in the pre-season.
What I like about that look in obvious pass situations is, that Collins can move to DE, or he can stay up and by movement, we can disguise some what what our plan is, though it's no great surprise that GW likes to blitz and anyone of the 3 LBers may come or drop into coverage.

SS is by far our weak spot. I initially expected us to use a lot of nickel and 3 S looks but now I'm thinking the opposite. Schob looks good. Much better than expected imo. Maybe a lot of peppers single high in a 43 with nickle cbs. Lots of cover 2 and 3

I think this is a good idea in theory, but what if the other team is running out three wide receivers and one tight end or four wide receivers. We can't have three linebackers on the field in those situations (in coverage). We'll get eaten alive.

I replied to this in the 43 thread because I thought it fit better there but that thread is locked now. Anyhow just in case you didn't see my response in the other thread: In base 43: SAM-Collins MIKE-Show WILL-Collins But Gregg isn't typically in base 43 very often ~30 or less. I was wondering out loud about what Gregg would do in 3rd and long pure pass rush situations earlier in this thread. Gregg did a bunch of things this preseason. My guess would be in 'regular' Nickel: Kirksey + Collins But, Gregg also had 3rd down snaps with Collins or Show as stand-up DEs, which is what I was thinking/hoping would happen while Kirksey+ whomever isn't at DE will line-up at the other ILB ...................ILB-Kirko+ILB-Collins/Show DE-Collins/Show DT-Ogbah DT-Trevon DE-Garrett Also, I don't think Gregg will use as much "big dime"/"little nickel" w/ the Browns as he did with Rams because I think our ILBs are equal to Mark Barron in terms of movement/coverage.
