This is unreal... I WISH I was on this flight to be able to tell this flight attendant a piece of my mind...

----------------------------------------------------------

A Georgia mother said she wants answers and action after she and her baby were kicked off a plane.

Kate Penland said she was glad to board the plane in Houston to visit her father in Oklahoma after an 11-hour delay. But she said a rude and aggressive flight attendant caused her to get to Oklahoma a day late.

Penland thinks her 19-month-old son, Garren, has a bubbly personality. But Penland said when they were aboard a Continental Express plane, a flight attendant became annoyed by Garren's personality when he kept saying three words.

"As we started taxiing, he started saying, 'Bye, bye plane,'" said Penland. "At the end of her speech, she leaned over the gentleman beside me and said, 'It's not funny anymore. You need to shut your baby up.'"

In disbelief, Penland asked the woman if she was kidding. It was then, Penland said, the flight attendant went too far.

"She then said, 'You know, it's called baby Benadryl.' And I said, 'Well, I'm not going to drug my child so you have a pleasant flight,'" Penland said.

Penland said when the other passengers began speaking up on her behalf, the flight attendant got angrier and soon announced they were turning around and that Penland and Garren were going to be taken off the plane.

"I was crying, I was upset and I was thinking, 'What am I going to do? I don't have anything with me. I don't have any more diapers for the baby, no juice, no milk," said Penland.

The mother said she later learned the flight attendant told the pilot that she had threatened her. Penland said that never happened.

Express Jet Airlines released a statement that said, "We received Ms. Penland's letter expressing her concerns and intend to investigate its contents."

A fellow passenger told Atlanta TV station WSB that none of the other passengers had problems with Garren and that Penland never threatened the flight attendant. Penland said she is considering legal action.

I will admit that I am relieved when I get on aplane with no small children around. However, what this flight attendant alledgedly did was completely wrong, if we are getting the whole story.

If what the mother says and the passengers say are true then the flight attendant better dust off her resume.

Wow, and other passengers even said the baby wasn't bothering anyone and that the woman didn't threaten anyone. The flight attendant is going to be out of a job without a doubt. Bad publicity alongside a lawsuit isn't going to help this company any and it's all 'cause one employee had baby issues..unreal. Some people just make me feel sorry for their ignorance. I feel especially bad for the mother, she didn't invite the trouble on herself, she just wanted to go see her father. Boo flight attendant.

One thing I note about this article.. The flight attendant is NOT quoted as giving her side of the story. I'm surprised at all of you guys.. you are only getting ONE side of the story..

Lets we wait and hear the other side first then rip on them.

Well the way i look at it Saint is that we got the same side twice from two sources.

The only reason the flight attendant got her way was to tell the pilot that she was threatened by a passenger. A pilot would never turn around because a baby was being a baby and "talking" and what not.

More then likely the flight attendant is not allowed to talk to the media so all the media has to go on is the mom and other passengers story but with so many witnesses saying the same thing I doubt the mom ever threatened the flight attendant and the attendant just does not like kids and was looking for an excuse to kick her off.

I can read Turkey.. I read your post. Looky here, it's a MB in case you missed that crucial pointage.. I posted my opinion. See how that works?

I read this article and some others on the story.. one story said there was one witness. I don't see the witness nor do I have a name for this one witness.. does this one witness speak for everyone on the plane? Did they elect this person to be their spokesperson?

I'll wait until the whole story comes out. We'll need some more info before we can judge the situation. I've been near kids with ADD, colic, heperactivity and other varieties of behaviors that I swear can drive a normal person insane in a hurry.

I agree it seems as though the flight attendant was rude...and probably should be fired - however, we only have 1 side of the story - well, one side, plus the witnesses - which makes it look bad for the attendant.

However, this tidbit caught my attention. Why would you board a flight with no diapers? I know, you can't take bottles on the flight - but surely you would have some in your luggage, not?

This is an interesting thing. If the baby was being pretty good than this is BS, but how many of us have been on planes where a baby is just going nuts? Either yelling, screaming, cryining, anything? I feel for parents as it's easy for me to say if they can't control thier kids they shouldn't fly, but I have rights too. My last red-eye was just horrible as one baby was apperently teething, another was kicking my seat, and a third was literally constantly screaming about wanting something. I asked to move but the flight was full. The flight attentend after talking to several of us then talked to the parents.
The teether was eventually given ice, but the mother at first refused. Quieted down after that.
The kicker was talked to and the mother got upset. She refused to handle the child and the kid kept it up for 4 hours.
The screamer was talked to and once again the mother got mad at the attendent. A passenger by this couple (father was mad too) spoke up about how is was really bothering her. They then and only than started managing the child. (badly though that kid had never apperently heard the word no.)

So sometimes it is the parents fault. Sometimes they do deserve to be removed.

I agree somewhat - but it says that the other passengers back up the mother's story... i can understand getting tired of hearing babies cry... I listen to it all day... but to be down right mean about it is unreal. I don't think the flight attendant should be fired... maybe she was having a rough day.

Pfft.. Roy, I haven't been skunked fishing since I don't know when.. Ya should see my pics from fishing at Cape Hatteras last month.. caught fish every damn day.. fed the family too. Here's the list of fish that fell prey to the Mighty Saint's awesome fishin skills LOL... Most of them were from surf fishing right on the beach behind the cottage. The rest were on charter boats.

Haven't done Erie yet.. might have to wait till August / Sept.

Arch, my guess for her not having enough diapers:

1) She had an 11 hour delay so she could've run out

2) It's a flight from Texas to Oklahoma so it doesn't take that long even if the baby drops a deuce.

Did you see this too?:

It seems that she just ran out.

I have two kids, 14 months apart, we fly quite a bit. only one time did I have a problem.

My daughter was about almost 3 and my son was about 1 1/2, he had an upset stomach and was not being a very good kid, my wife and I tried every trick we new, the flight attendent was extremely nice and tried to help us also. Nothing seemed to work for about 40 mins. it was hell, as I am sure it was for the other passengers. My wife and I apoligized several times and most of the passengers could tell we where as frustrated as they were. In normal circumstances, a resturant, a store, something like that, I take my child outside, but where do you go on a plane?

I feel for this mom, especially after an 11 hour delay, but as others have said, we don't know the full story, but just from what I have read, it seems extreme to turn the plane around and kick them off. As a passenger, I may have been more mad about that!

If they're crying, that can get old.. but generally I just feel sorry for the parents in those cases because I can usually tell how much they wish the baby would stop crying... and I can see the other passengers getting annoyed because they have some right to a quiet flight.. If the kids aren't crying, there is no more happy sound in the world than a toddler talking... I love it and could listen to it all day...

I usually feel about the same way, and I also usually feel bad for the baby because aircraft are just generally unpleasant places and the ability to clear your ears from pressure changes is not something that you inherently know how to do and if can get quite painful, especially if you are congested at all.

Which is why you never board a plane with a baby, without a pacifier or some other thing for them to chew on, the chewing motion will help clear the ears... for kids who are a little older, gum works well... plus you load up on snacks, books, drinks, and toys which make little to no noise...

Plus, if this poor woman and child just spent 11 hours stuck in an airport and that child was screaming and fussing, they all should have considered themselves darn lucky.

Gum doesn't always work. The last time I flew I was deaf in one ear for three days. I just couldn't get my ears to pop.

I don't like being around kids on planes if I have a choice....but the kid has to go with the parents.....plus I blame the patents...they know if their kid is a whiner...there are ways to sedate a child safely. You would think the parents wouldn't want to deal with a whining child, but go to any movie on a Saturday night and there always seems to be one dipwad who wants to sit there and watch the movie while jr. or missy want to carry on.

The kid wasn't whining, it was talking.. "Bye, bye plane"...

After 11 hours stuck in the terminal the mom was probably ecstatic that the kid wasn't screaming, little did she know that talking wasn't allowed either...

Ok, let me chime in on this. In April my daughter (who was 16 months old) and I boarded a flight to Ohio from PA. It was only an hour flight. As soon as we took off she proceeded to SCREAM bloody murder. I tried everything in the world to stop her. I had her juice, snacks, books, toys, stuffed animals, etc. I could NOT for the life of me get her to stop! I wanted to order a stiff jack and coke and crawl under my seat. There was a HUGE guy sitting across the aisle from me. He looked like a linebacker. I was just daring him to say something to me because I would've taken him out! Seriously. Kids cry. Parents can't stop it sometimes because believe me, I wanted it stopped more than anyone! After about 20 mins. I realized there was NOTHING that I could do so I just gave up and hoped for the best. Of course as soon as we got to Ohio she stopped. I was daring anyone to say anything to me.

PS. I'm betting that you don't have children because if you did you'd understand that things happen with them that are beyond your control sometimes.

There is a huge difference between an infant and a child that should know better... and most people that I know, who don't have kids, have no idea where that line is.... I have a great deal of patience with one, not so much with the other...

I recently made a trip to Florida with 2 young children. A 2 and 4 year old. We had a 1 hr layover on the way and my kids were fine on the first flight. I put the movie "Cars" on the laptop and they sat quietly and watched the movie.

On the second flight after the layover I tried the same thing only to find out the battery died shortly after takeoff. (My fault I should have made sure it was fully charged) From that point on there was nothing I could do with the 2 year old. Snacks, toys, drinks, nothing seemed to work. A plane is a terrible way for a family to travel. It's a couple of hours of sitting in the same spot and not much to do. Parents need to find a way to entertain their children and thats not always easy. I know at home my 2 children don't sit still for more than a few minutes so on a plane it's almost impossible to expect them to sit and patiently wait to land for an entire flight.

If all this child was doing was talking like the article says than the Mother and everyone else should have been very happy with that. It could have been much worse.

Little kids on airplanes that are uncontrolled are annoying but geez, this is going a bit too far isn't it? WTF is wrong with this flight attendent anyway.. didn't she get lucky the night before or what? Stupid,,,,,

I'm no lawyer but it sure seems as if she has a solid case against both the airline and the flight attendent..
