might as well start it up now ...
- Kiser, the issue of the night, was good and bad (get used to it). he was poised and made some nice protection adjustments. made some nice throws (the ones to Coleman especially). but also some dumb ones. And had some drops (britt cost us a 1st and goal)
- We're at our best with Crow and Duke in there together ... it allows Duke more space and versatility
- the line looked better with JT obviously
- Can we cut Kenny Britt? is his contract guaranteed? I just don't see him being worth it .. or much better than anyone else
- Coleman had his best game I've seen
- Schobert looked pretty good the first drive or so
- Peppers with an INT was good ... and he's explosive with it
- Nice to see Ogbah/Garrett get some pressure
- PENALTIES were an atrocity ... basically ALMOST lost us the game IMO ... this is a troubling theme
- DROPPED PASSES were an atrocity ... 2nd reason we ALMOST lost the game ... this is a troubling theme
- Cody Kessler is BAD ... Hogan is BAD
- Our TE's are BAD ... Telfair drops half of his passes. Njoku doesn't look near ready
- The rb (mcgee) should be one of the first ones cut
- Is Zane Gonzalez in trouble of being cut? Maybe
Overall, I enjoy watching our defense ... they're way more physical, athletic, and active. It's a nice change to see.
I hate watching our offense. Kiser IS capable of being an above average QB in my opinion, it's just a shame that he's forced to play so soon.

Really hoping we win, mostly because he said "the reason we lost" twice..
When our starters were tied at the half.
And the game had like 5 mins left to go.

Positives
Line played much better.
Running game looked good. Duke was explosive, Crow was solid and I just really like Dayes.
Coleman was awesome. Looks like he is ready to make the leap.
Kizer was overall a positive. Lead the team and should have had plenty of points. We will see poor rookie decisions at times, but his talent is undeniable.
Ogbah, Garrett, Nassib all had excellent games on the line. Garrett is such a force already.
Thought the linebackers were swarming. Made a lot of plays.
Peppers and Kindred played very well. I really hope this carries into the regular season.
Negatives:
Joe Haden is really bad now. Taylor, BBC, and McCourtey are far better than him.
These penalties need to be eliminated. Not talented enough to win with that many mistakes.
Duke has to hold onto the ball. Unacceptable. Cost the team points.
Britt has to cut out the drops. Had a first down and went off his hands. Not good.
Our TEs are MIA. Telfair is a blocker almost exclusively. Njoku is still young. And Devalve is not being targeted.
Rookie mistakes. Ugh. Hopefully Kizer has more good than bad.
Overall, I would say this team needs consistent offense. If they could get it, they could surprise. As is, looks like a 5 win team. Defense looks awesome but the offense looks young. Really young.
you had a good run Hank.

I'll be called the "board police," but I think we should wait to start post game threads until the game is over and to start game day threads right before kickoff instead of hours ahead of time.
I promise to never start either. I just prefer accuracy and relevance.

Mid first half, I thought the O-line was playing pretty well. Really Well.
OH my, if William Green, If William Green had been able to play behind this offensive line, we might have had an all pro runningback. If If If.
Pre-game thought:
If I'm going to be able to watch at least 13 pre-season games in primetime on Television; then they might as well just make them regular season games and get rid of the pre-season Nonsense!
The One change Roger Goodell could actually make that I would agree with.

* Kizer made some good throws .. but was 6 - 18 ?? * Defense looked good * It's obvious that the defense is going to have to carry the team * Too many penalties * which QB to cut ?? Kessler ?

cody takes a lot of sacks for a man that doesnt have the balls to throw it.
Kenny Bowe will cash his Browns welfare check this week. I was infavor of the signing but man he is halfassing it.
The only special teams play we didnt have a flag, they should have thrown one for tripping.
Now that my whinning is out of the way.
Defense playing fast and loose. Schobert was bouncing around like Qbert on crack.
One of my favorite football sayings is you are a bust until youre not. Well Peppers and Coleman are not busts lol Coleman does not make those plays last year. hell of a half. He needs his #2. I think it may be Louis.
Peppers and Kindred have receivers making business decisions.
Nassib and Cooper beasting.
Winston was really getting the ball out quicly not giving much time for the d to get to him. Nice to see the D put an end to that.
Crow just wasnt mentally there for this one. Dont blame him though contract year and preseason.
Duke remember Dayes and McGee arent fumbling.
Ol showed a lot of progress. They opened some holes that werent hit and they protected the pocket.
Cody needs a boyscout to help him cross the street. Seriously I am still ticked at how pathetic that was.

* which QB to cut ?? Kessler ? It seems like Osweiler is going to get traded or released. There is a reason he didn't play. If the Browns are serious about winning in 2017 he would make this team as either the starter to begin the season or as Kiser's back up in case of injury. Paxton Lynch injured his shoulder tonight. The Bronco's might be a team willing to trade for him if the Browns eat 10 mil of the contract which they will for a 3rd or 4th round selection.

Hue's comments about Hogan suggest that he "won" the 3rd string job tonight .. I'd expect Brock to be traded. JMO

I saw penalties move us half the distance to the goal on just about every kick
Kizer looks the part
Coleman step up tonight
Saw Nassib put pressure many times.
Telfar is horrendous at catching. DeValve must be a horrible blocker
I think our safeties are sending a message
2nd team line was holding off the Bucs starters
Stupid penalties the whole game
I saw a win
RIP, Jim

Most of the guys out there on special teams right now wont be there come week 1. The penalties just help thin the heard. Its annoying as hell to watch but come week 1. That should not be part of our special teams play.

We have a defense. Coleman showed hands, and he and Kizer showed chemistry. Another WR has to show up. Did Louis play? The penalties have to be brought under control! We are undefeated, how many times have we had the chance to say that since the return?

Refocused: Cleveland Browns 13, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9 BY PFF ANALYSIS TEAM • AUG 27, 2017 Jacquizz Rodgers and Jameis Winston tried to lead the Buccaneers to an early scoring drive, but Winston was picked off by Jabrill Peppers just outside of the endzone on their first drive. DeShone Kizer was able to lead the Browns to a field goal scoring drive off that interception. The first touchdown wouldn’t be scored until after the two minute warning, but it would prove to be the difference. A Kevin Hogan pass found Jordan Leslie in the endzone and would put the Browns up for a final score of 13-9. With that. we give you our PFF exclusive takeaways from the contest for each team. TOP 5 GRADES: ED Myles Garrett, 86.6 overall grade DI Xavier Cooper, 85.1 overall grade S Derrick Kindred, 83.8 overall grade S Jabrill Peppers, 83.6 overall grade ED Tyrone Holmes, 83.0 overall grade PERFORMANCES OF NOTE: QB DESHONE KIZER, 62.2 While the final stat line wasn’t pretty for Kizer in his first NFL start, there were some encouraging signs to go with the rough moments – notably, a willingness to pull the trigger downfield. Of his 16 aimed passes, 14 traveled at least 10 yards in the air, and he showed solid chemistry with fellow rookie Corey Coleman, connecting with his receiver for several first downs, including a dime at 6:40 of the first quarter. Overall, there was improvement over his performance a week ago, but there’s still plenty for the coaches to harp on, including a pair of turnover-worthy throws, the second of the two(and the more egregious) being a dropped potential pick-six by Tampa corner Ryan Smith near the end of the first half. LT JOE THOMAS, 79.8 OVERALL GRADE Apart from a false start penalty and a pressure ceded to defensive end Robert Ayers, the Browns’ stalwart at left tackle looked to be close to regular season form in his 28 snaps. He was clean on 14 other pass rushes, while making several positive blocks in the run game, both solo at the line of scrimmage and as part of a double team. EDGE MYLES GARRETT, 86.6 OVERALL GRADE On the flip side of the Smith argument, Garrett showed why he was the No. 1 overall pick, rarely staying blocked and picking up four pressures (one quarterback hit, three hurries) on 23 rushes. If not for the quick passing game, those numbers would have been through the roof as Garrett slipped off blocks consistently as a pass-rusher. S JABRILL PEPPERS, 83.6 OVERALL GRADE Peppers caught Winston’s misfire for the interception and he closed quickly for a third-down stop in the passing game, but perhaps the big story for Peppers is how much deep safety he’s playing. 35 of his 37 snaps came at free safety, making it 77 of 81 snaps so far this preseason. Peppers was expected to be more of a box safety coming out of college, but he’s showing well in more of a true free safety role. TOP 5 GRADES: ED Robert Ayers, 80.8 overall grade CB Ryan Smith, 80.0 overall grade ED Noah Spence, 80.0 overall grade CB Robert McClain, 79.7 overall grade CB Javien Elliott, 78.5 overall grade PERFORMANCES OF NOTE: QB JAMEIS WINSTON, 75.4 OVERALL GRADE It was another mixed bag for Winston, who struggled with his accuracy in the early going including an errant pass that led to an easy interception by Browns safety Jabrill Peppers. He also missed two potential first-down throws, but in typical Winston fashion, he came back with plenty of strong throws, his best being an out route right on the numbers of tight end Cameron Brate for 16 yards. Last season, Winston had the second-highest percentage of positively-graded plays but also the ninth-highest percentage of negatives, and this game was right in line with his usual level of play. LT DONOVAN SMITH, 32.4 OVERALL GRADE Smith made strides as a pass protector down the stretch last season, but he had his struggles in this one, particularly against rookie edge rusher Myles Garrett. Smith was lucky that Winston was getting the ball out of his hands so quickly because he rarely blocked Garrett cleanly and the one quarterback hit and four hurries don’t do justice to the number of other times Smith lost a block in under 2.3 seconds. EDGE NOAH SPENCE, 80.0 OVERALL GRADE Spence followed up a solid showing last week with another impressive performance rushing the passer, one of several notable performances among Tampa’s front four. The second-year player converted 18 rushes into two pressures (one sack, one hit) and a batted pass, along with another pair of wins. CB RYAN SMITH, 80.0 OVERALL GRADE Smith had the most active game among Tampa’s defense, compiling a team-high six tackles and three defensive stops in 41 snaps. In coverage, he allowed five of eight targets to be completed for 74 yards, but made several positive plays on the three incompletions, including an excellent break on an out route at 1:43 of the second quarter, nearly getting a pick-six on Browns QB Deshon Kizer. Good to see Peppers scoring high as well. Also, Holmes looks like he should be on our roster for sure.

I thought Coleman played really well. The defense is playing with aggression and energy which is great to see. Peppers and Kindred make receivers hear footsteps. Really pleased with a win despite a bazillion penalties. Kizer looks like he could be decent. Man, what happened to Cody? We need the TEs and another receiver to show up.

Your last two points are very true IMO. 1. Cody looks SO bad. I thought he'd progress ... he looks like he's gone into a shell. 2. Our TEs are bad. Telfair can't catch a cold. Njoku doesn't look near ready.

First team OLine did a nice job tonight, "protecting" their QB.
What happened to the Browns and Kizer's move the sticks, short passing game?
Kizer did enough win the starting job but he really doesn't have much competition.
Can't fix what is wrong with Cody Kessler...
Defense did a nice job, too. Gonna be some tough choices when cut down date comes.

Kizer's a QB folks.
Looked poised and comfortable. The pick didn't rattle him. He didn't see the LB. He'll learn from that.
He'll also learn really quick that the short out is the most dangerous pass in the game. Corners are alot quicker in the NFL. I'm glad he threw that one in this game so he can see it. Gotta throw it before the break.
START HIM, Hue. And don't look back.
No QB runs which was nice.
No more 7 yard gains on 3rd and 8. Nice change.
Run the ball and use Play Action, Hue.
If not for Britt and Johnson, he could put up a quick 14 points.
This dude throws a beautiful ball.

Let's start with Kizer and take it from there:
- The stat line doesn't tell the story on how he played. If it weren't for a couple of drops and a phantom offensive pass interference penalty, his stat line would look magnificent and the INT would likely not exist.
- HAVING SAID THAT, he made some woeful rookie mistakes. That's going to happen. He definitely is locking on to receivers. For an optimist view, I'm going to chalk up some of the bad decisions as testing NFL windows.
- In fact, I find it interesting that there were so many deep throws. I don't know if it was by design or what but it seemed like Hue wanted Kizer to test windows to get a feel for them. Maybe that's me making an excuse.
- All things considered, I'd rather have someone out there stretching the defense and being capable of hitting the deep ball than someone afraid to stretch the field, or just can't at all, thus letting the defense clamp down on the running game.
Other:
- Cody Kessler has regressed. Big time. Hogan could end up being the backup on the team and he is terrible despite the game winning drive.
- Hogan: May be the backup just based on skill set match with Kizer alone. Both are mobile and have strong arms and aren't afraid to throw down field. Hogan is woefully inaccurate. I suppose throwing your receivers into dangerous situations where they draw personal foul penalties is a strategy for moving the ball though...
- It's not showing up on the stat line in terms of pure sacks but Garrett's presence is being felt.
- Based on what we've seen so far, it seems as though stopping the run will finally be a thing from our defense.
- Overall, the defense plays with an attitude. And while you can't judge a team based on preseason, I think it's going to be safe to say this defense will be completely different from defenses of yesteryear. The fact that they aren't letting people into the end zone and are consistently bringing pressure is something that translates to the regular season.
- Larry Ogunjobi caught my eye tonight. Consistently in the backfield and blowing up plays.

I think it will be hard to justify keeping Kessler. I really liked him last year, thought he had some potential but he looks terrible out there this year. Kizer, Oz, Hogan or perhaps a backup from cuts... They'll probably trade Oz and keep CK as backup.
Kizer will have an awful tough year if the WRs and TEs don't show up in a big way. It's too late to fix this with signings IMHO so we need to fix it with guys that our here now. No idea how Hue will pull that off.
This D could be special, very special.
