Cooper Kupp looks good for the Rams - only preseason but I think he's going to be a good one. Wish he was here. Hopefully one of our guys makes the job his own.

Just clicking, drobs. All the posters who are calling our WR group terrible, when most of them are two pre-season games into their sophomore seasons:
Question for you:

I'm not being an ass, but what is it that makes you see it that way, and don't you think there's still room to grow? Can you supply a few detailed examples?

I can.

--Poor route runners.

--Questionable hands.

--Do not create enough separation.

--Haven't seen them make hot reads and/or sight adjustments.

Was looking for more detail, Vers. And don't you think it's early to call them terrible?

More detail? LMAO

I think I provided way more detail than those who defend them.

Look man, don't ask questions if you don't want to hear the answers. I have ZERO problems w/you liking our WRs and TEs. ZERO!

But...............if you don't wanna hear my answer, don't ask.

Last yr 3 Browns rookie WRs other than Coleman combined for a scorching 20 something catches and 0 Tds.
Higgins and Louis got by on size speed and athleteism at Colorado St and Auburn
Louis wasn't even a top 5 WR in the SEC .
Both WR ran a limited route tree in college
Neither were prolific route runners in college .both WR had their snaps taken away by a QB CONVERTED WR!!!

In the NFL what seperates All Pro WRs from bench warmers is route running and studying DBs and being able to beat press coverage consistantly.
Louis came from a school that has rarely produced even average WRs at the NFL level
Higgins wasn't exactly polished at CSU.
It doesn't take a viewing of 2 yrs time to judge WRs.
Louis and Higgins won't even put up 10 tds combined this season

IMO the group as a whole was terrible last year. But this year they're just very bad. I'm seeing progress. The QBs seem better adjusted for Corey Coleman. They're not throwing it high to him on crossing routes as much. And CC is looking great, after the catch. Ricardo Louis practiced with Brandon Marshall this offseason and it looks like he's been practicing on his own. He's not a gigantic dumpster fire anymore, he's just your average garbage can fire now. I noticed that Marshall didn't talk to him after the game, on the field. Interesting lol. The rest of the WRs are marginally better as well. Although the thought of investing so heavy in WRs two years ago instead of this year, where Cooper, Zay, and a host of others were available, makes me want to drive my head through my computer screen. I mean, there was enough talent this draft to get better rookies. But oh well. Can't change the past. Can only change the future. And I'll take marginal improvement from players, I've largely thought were trash.

Rashard Higgins had a refined route IQ coming into the league.
He is an all hands catcher.

He struggled to get a clean release off of press coverage and his thin frame, to go along with a pedestrian 40: (4.64) in pre-draft work outs is why he was avalible at (172).

Here is his Draft Analyst;

Strengths

Has sink into his breaks and comes out with enough juice for workable separation. Possesses decent run after the catch talent. All-day hands catcher with good extension who saw substantial improvement with his battle against focus drops. Focuses like a laser when tracking the deep ball. Understands how to work late separation along sideline through leverage. Always on top of his high-point game as a downfield pass catcher. Subtle in his routes but able to get corners leaning.

Weaknesses

Pedestrian speed into routes. Will need to improve the sharpness of his routes to gain adequate separation in the pros. Had moments of nonchalance near end zone. Saw explosive catch rate drop from 25 percent to 13 percent. Play strengths is a shade below where it needs to be. Can get stuck to press coverage and will need to vary and improve his release. Gets in the way as a blocker, but might lack commitment.

It will help now that our WRs will be working primarily with 1 QB..Kizer.

Kizer throws a good, catchable pass, imo. Osweiler was almost always high with his throws and many wrs do not like to be stretched out and exposed like that.

The Browns need to get their entire first team working together..OLine, Rbs, TEs as well as WRs.

Go Browns...

I believe that Hall is going to make this team.

I've been a fan of Hall ever since he garnished great praise from Saunders who happens to know what he's talking about. Unfortunately last year never got off the ground as Hall was injured. But he has not disappointed this season. He isn't afraid to dive for catches...and he makes them. If he gets hit so be it seems to be his Mantra out there.

Got to root for the kid!

We're shopping for a WR ... Jarvis Landry and Phillip Dorsett are rumors

it's just what it would cost. Dorsett would be far less obviously.

Landry would be interesting after the shots he took at BBC after the hit on OBJ.

I'd prefer a bigger body if we pick up another receiver.

I wonder if Orchard not playing could be because we're looking to move him. Wouldn't be surprised if we were talking to New England, though I think the Edelman injury lessens that somewhat.

Interesting idea. Not sure Williams would like lessening his DL rotation, but we NEED playmakers.

http://nfltraderumors.co/browns-researching-potential-wr-trade-targets/

Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland is hearing that the Browns are researching potential trade options for a receiver and know they need help at the position.

Interestingly enough, Michael Lombardi of TheRinger believes the Dolphins will “seriously listen” to trade offers for WR Jarvis Landry.
Aditi Kinkhabwala mentions that the Steelers have an overabundance of receivers.
There were questions about the Browns receiver depth heading into training camp. As of now, the Browns have Kenny Britt and Corey Coleman as their top two receivers with a group of Rashard Higgins, Ricardo Louis, Josh Boyce, Jordan Leslie, Rannell Hall, Jordan Payton, Richard Mullaney, Mario Alford and Rasheed Bailey rounding out their roster.

We’re less than a week away from teams cutting their rosters down to 53 players, which means there will be a lot of trades discussed in the next few days.

If the Browns determine that there isn’t a trade for a receiver worth pursuing at this time, they could sift through the waiver wire notable players, considering that they have the top waiver priority right now.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns and potential trade targets as the news is available.

I don't know who the Steelers would want to trade away

I doubt they'd cut Rodgers, but he'd be one to look at

I totally dislike the message of this post. This post implies that the players have to get numbers/statistics as a rookie, (regardless of playing time) or else they need to be kicked out the door.

I don't think it's fair to call a player bad before that player has a chance to show what he can do.

Now! even in contradiction to what I've just said; I don't see what Jordan Payton has done yet to show he should make the Browns this year.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Pretty much what Diam said, but I think they'll keep Rodgers. I'd try to grab him if he was available. He's pretty good. I also am intrigued by Justin Hunter. He's had a good camp.

Coate's Combine results - 4.43 40; 41" vertical; 23 reps bench press. Worth a look.

curious about his sparq. He has had trouble catching though IIRC

I saw Coates in the iron bowl and the NC game a few years ago and thought he looked the part of an elite, big, 1st round receiver. I thought the Steelers stole him in the 3rd round.

In Coates 1st 4 games of 2016 he had a catch of 40 yds in each game
I don't think any Browns WRS had 4 catches over 40 yards in 2016
Coates is better than Britt Higgins Louis or Hall
