Boohoo. Keep crying those gigantic hysterical liberal tears.
Come visit us in Georgia. We will wrap your whiny liberal ass in the confederate flag and shove you over the border to Alabama.
I'm too busy laughing at all the people claiming to be patriots who are proving they'd rather stand up for people who committed treason against our nation rather then really be patriotic.

If you managed to pull that off, I'd be taking some of you with me. I'm not that kind, compassionate, non gun toting liberal you are all brain washed to believe in.

Not really. I am understanding enough to realize what that symbol means to so many. I am also smart enough to know that immortalizing confederate generals who committed treason against our nation is about as unpatriotic as it gets. People always talk about remembering our fallen soldiers. Right up until you start talking about the civil war. Then suddenly we should continue to honor those that killed them.
Some of us learn things over time. Some of us don't.
Thanks for the response. I do think this is a more admirable explanation than to say they represent "racism". Maybe I'm just jaded because we hear the accusations of racism so often and they just ring hollow 98% of the time.
Anyway, I stand by my opinion that the communities and institutions that house these statues should decide what they want to do with them. If they remove them in a legal and democratic way, I am ok with that. I'm not ok with removing them illegally, through riots or vandalism.
Except southerners like their rebel flag and dont really care what the rest of the country thinks. Just a couple years ago they built the largest confederate flag in the world. You can see it driving down I-75S in Florida. It's massive. I saw that and was like when did that happen? LOL
That doesn't make it right.
Sure it does. Dont like it? Too bad.

I love how people continue to uphold those who committed treason against our nation and that killed tens of thousands of our soldiers. Then they have some fake outrage over someone kneeling during the anthem.
Hypocrisy much?

you do realize that all you're doing is making it clear that the south's views are so ass backwards it make as well be a different country, right?
lol, alabama? trash
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
You do realize that in Charlottesville they were going to remove that statue just the way you described. The town had decided to remove it. And look what happened.

I listen to black people in Georgia, because thats about all there is on the News.
I dont think Georgians in general hate Alabama. I just don't like it because I had to drive across Alabama before and it was a craptastic drive. I do not like that state.
Yeah, Georgia is 30% black. And STILL a red state. We got black people on the news saying to keep the statues.
You might never want to come here, because your snowflake self will melt into a puddle.
lol please i've been to georgia. not impressed. and just cause you have a few detractors means what?

Good riddance. It was a lousy novel, filled with unsympathetic characters. Made into a lousy movie with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Some things deserve to be left in the past.
I'm not sure why it took so long, but I finally saw that movie for the first time recently. "filled with unsympathetic characters" is a very accurate statement. The acting was excellent and the cinematography was amazing for the time, but the movie was quite a letdown for me.

I'm not advocating censorship, but I will say this:
If this thing dies a natural death because it falls out of favor, I won't be standing nearby with a defibrulator.
Nor will I.
However, I think we need to be careful about what we censor and what we take down.
Once a movement starts, it typically picks up momentum and than we start moving on to another book, another movie, other statues, etc. Then, it will be changing the names of things.
And where does it stop? Who is to say what is offensive and what is not?

If youve been to Georgia, they probably had to soak you up with a sponge to return you to Ohio.
nah, the only people getting soaked when i was in georgia was the ladies.

Me too. Dude had a unique style and some funny, interesting takes on things.
Too bad even HE became controversial. Some folks really were put off by his posts. Said it was too much work to 'decode' his English. Can't remember who, doesn't really matter. What I do recall is how entertaining I found him to be.
AND... once he'd been here for about a week, I picked up on the rhythm of his posts- and they started flowing as easily as everyone else's.
Hairdog was the man and has always been the man. Even back on the original forums. It's annoying how he was crucified on here because of the "work" it took to read his, rather often than not, insightful posts. Now we have trolls who don't understand homophones on here and no one says a word.
I can't find anything on him, not even the couple private messages we shot back & forth! I didn't delete them. Can't even find him in any forums either. Perhaps someone who's better with the search function can give it a try.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...
It's funny you bring up censorship on such a topic. You see, unlike censorship, children will still learn about the civil war. They will still learn about confederate generals. The difference is, they will learn about them in context.
Statues are simply built to glorify those people. People who committed treason against the United states. As such, that's more about misinformation than history. It's more about seeing these people raised in prominence in their communities. Nobody is trying to change history or erase history. Nobody is trying to prevent history from being taught in our schools. That would be censorship.
Removing statues of traitors from our parks and public display have zero to do with what you speak of.
