Osweiler will be the Browns starting Qb by week 5-6 at the latest.

I want Kizer to be the guy here, but he just isn't ready yet. Kizer locks on to one target, he doesn't turn his head, etc...these are things NFL defense coordinators will plan for...they will take away that 1st read and when they do Kizer is lost.

Say what you want about Osweiler, bur Osweiler WAS looking at 2 or 3 reads before throwing the ball. You would see him move his head...he wasn't locking on to just one guy like Kizer has.

The numbers don't tell the story with Brock..his one INT was off a battled ball(that even happens to Brady sometimes), he had two TD throws right on the money dropped by his receivers.

Fact is Brock actually looks at more then one target, and Brock has far better pocket awareness.

Kizer will be a better QB eventually, but he isn't better then Brock "right now" and im sorry but only in Cleveland would a coach start a rookie over a guy who has a playoff win, and 14-9 record as a starter.

You would win 3-4 more games with Brock at Qb this year vs Kizer. Kizer will make a lot of mistakes because thats what rookies do...throw INTS...

This will probably ruin Kizer.....we don't have the supporting cast here..and Kizer is so raw...he needs time to sit, and needs to pratice, and get reps in practice, and more work on his mechanics.

Hue Jackson is setting up Kizer to fail. I believe Osweiler never had a chance at starting anyways...Jackson was going to start Kizer regardless. This is why Kizer got more then twice the amount of throws then Brock did, and couldn't let Brock play against a bunch of bums that won;t make an NFL roster(Like the majority of Kizer's playing time) Else Brock would looks like a monster too.

Kizer won't last the season because of the things i mentioned, and he lacks elite pre-RG3 injury kinda speed to really run...he is going to need a lot of ice after the Steelers game...if he even survives the Steelers game that is....

I'll still watch the Steelers game because:

Face it, there is a chance Kizer could let them up, and with as many Qb picks we have whiffed on in the last 10+ years, were probably due by bum luck to hit on one, and maybe Kizer just might be lighting in a bottle...history doens't make those good odds for us, but the chance is there, and I hope i cna pull something off.

I wanted Kizer to sit for a while as well, but I disagree with some of the things you wrote in there. May just be a difference in observations.

I do remember in the Buccaneers game where DK locked on to a receiver in the middle of the field, but I also recall other plays where he maintained pocket presence and went through progressions.

Brock had an INT off a batted ball with receivers dropping some passes, but the very same can be said of Kizer in his last game against the Bucs.

I can't say for sure that you would win more games with either QB, but I don't think we were going to win the Super Bowl either way this year.

I think it's a mixed bag on whether Brock had a chance at starting. I think he began camp pretty much as the #2 with Kessler as the #1. Well, we all knew how that went. I think Osweiler had the opportunity to show that he was starter material, or at least make his case to be the starter this year, and he did not meet expectations. Then, I think the team started to explore the idea of trading him again.

I really wish he had shown enough to be the starter because I, like you, think that Kizer really needs time to develop good mechanical habits, which I see as his biggest downfall.

I think saying that Kizer won't last the season because he's not RG3 is actually a good reason to say that he WILL last the season. wink

Personally I believe that Hue Jackson believes that Kizer gives us the best chance to win, now and later.

There should be no other reason in a coach's mind ever imo.

So I got to see him with and against the ones.
Loved his pocket presence.

He had good footwork and a couple of times without the feet in proper place mostly due to a rush he has the arm to still be accurate and have zip on it.

It was so refreshing to see an actual QB in a Browns Uni...man we've waited so long.

Was he perfect...of course not. He locked in on WRs. Didn't make a read and go to the next option often enough.

But he was good, his release is excellent, He throws a laser but he does throw a catchable pass. He has the size the vision.
Great legs.

For those smacking Joe Thomas and say what good is it. Well you see the kid comfortable with his blind side with Joe Thomas in there. I mean I cannot predict the future. But he works hard and not think he doesn't have to...we got a keeper and a Franchise QB here.

jmho

I see that too. I think that the fruit is in the target numbers, so I think it is premature to judge our WR, until he can work threw his progressions and the game slows down for him.

This will improve and his familiarity with his other receivers will improve too.

Personally I've been more impressed with his presents and ability to work within the pocket, while still affording himself time to get a pass off, then I saw in his College tape, but yeah he needs to improve on locking on to his primary receiver, that will lead to a quick six points, the other way.

I'm tempering my excitement over Kizer because it's preseason. I know preseason play is a reliable indicator of regular season play, but this might be the first time it isn't.

I think that we're going to eat a lot of this year's salary, and turn the remaining 3 years into a 1 year deal. He'll get a significant sighing bonus from us, and his new team will be on the hook for $5-6 million.

Could be that Indy, NY Jets, or Jacksonville takes a shot. Any number of other teams could decide that they want an experienced backup. All it takes is one team.

If we are planning on cutting on him (I don't know if we are), then trading him for nothing and eating most of his salary makes a ton of sense.

I don't hate the guy, I just think he had the worst QB season I've ever seen last year. I don't think a player comes back from that (or was ever good to begin with). If that is your starting point, then cutting him or trading him for nothing makes a lot of sense.

Hopefully, the defense will keep things manageable this year for Kizer and the offense to be competitive. I hope the Tampa game isn't any indication of what this year's passing game is going to be like.

I don't like Brock but he is the 2nd best we have and I don't believe Cody and Hogan are worth a practice squad slot. Plus Brock has been with Manning n brings experience to the qb room. We gotta pay him either way

Right, but if we can save money for future years by saving $6 million on his contract, I'd do it.

Also, I am not so sure he's all that great in the QB room. He pouted in both Denver and Houston about being benched. His "ask the GM" comment several days ago came off as weird (to me).

I don't hate anyone. I simply don't think that he's a good player, and I don't want him on my team. That's no more hate than if I said that BJ Bello isn't a very good player, and I don't want him on the team ... or if I said that I didn't think that Ladell Flemming or Alvin Hill are very good.

You think that Brock is a high quality player, and I don't. I am sure that you must have hated Kessler, then, by your own standards.

Point of fact: I think that Kessler has come perilously close to playing himself off the team. Does that mean that I now hate him too?

You, along w/a couple of others, have made things up about Brock. All of you have had had this obsession w/ripping the guy.

I don't think Brock is a "high quality player." I just wanted to keep an open mind about him and not listen to the hate that you and the others spewed.

I don't know about your screen but purple is so hard to read on mine as the background is black and the purple is dark. So screw the purple...lol laugh

Brock...anybody offers anything I would hope we take it. He's not an option for our starter any longer. If he does start we aren't going to win much at all - we know who he is. The guy is in year what? And he cannot read NFL defenses yet.

jmho I thought it would so cool to have him win the starting position and win games for us as we were given a 2nd round pick to take him. Never done before. But that dream has come and gone. I noticed it in our scrimmage, I noticed it in our preseason games. Just not going to happen.

Let's just start with pure ability.

Kizer has more pure ability than the other quarterbacks on the roster. Even though he is a rookie he has more ability and certainly more upside potential than the others. Keeping in mind that the "others" are who they are.

Kizer versus Brock. Brock has more experience. His results are mixed. He is neither as bad as some believe or as good. He is not as athletic as Kizer. He has a long slow release. He has been very inconsistent with accuracy. He does not handle pressure well. Nobody was lining up to sign him. Houston was thrilled to get rid of him and his contract.

It is not like everybody is lining up to sign Brock. He is still young and his career remains to be written in total. Up to now he is average at best.

Kizer will not be ruined by starting and the Browns supporting cast is not bad. The OL is improved evidenced by pre-season with more time to throw. The run game is above average. The receivers? Could use some help there but it is early and things could change. Overall the Browns are better than last year. They are improving but not yet a playoff team. Would Brock starting make them better? That's debatable.

You learn by playing. You can learn on the bench to a degree but you learn more by playing. If you were on the bench you would still need to play to really improve.

Why would Hue make the decision to start Kizer? It would have been easy to start Brock and say Kizer has more to learn. "Brock gives us the best chance to win etc.etc."

No. Hue didn't go that route. He saw them play side by side this whole year. He made the decision because he believed that it was best for the team.

Now you can be believe Hue or you can believe you know better.

Kizer was not handed the job. He simply out played the competition. The most impressive thing that he has displayed is poise. He shows it when under pressure. He shows it by sliding in and around the pocket. By showing patience on the screens and then good touch and ball placement. When he throws downfield he has demonstrated accuracy. Not all of the good throws he made were caught. If you can not see his arm talent versus Brock then not much else to say.

Is he a finished product? Hell no. He will make mistakes that is a given.

But in the end Kizer is the better player and you are giving the chance to prove what he can be.

With Brock he has been in the league since 2012 to a degree you have a good idea of who he is.

While he may not have been "handed" the job, I believe the plan from the beginning was for him to be the starter.

I do not believe there was a "fair" qb competition.

Neither of those comments mean that the FO and Hue are wrong to have handled it that way. I just hope they made the right decision and they better hope so, as well. Job security in the NFL isn't very stable.

If Brock or Cody would have shown more they may have won the job.

They were given the chance. Cody showed why he was a third rounder.

Brock may have been pre-judged to a degree. I wasn't at practice so I didn't see how he performed there. In the games he just didn't get done. I guess we will never know what would have happened if he had put the ball in the end zone or for that matter just played better.

I will say this if Kizer would have played poorly he wouldn't be the starter. If he would have practiced poorly I doubt he would have played any better.

Kizer starting may have been the preference but it was not pre-destined. He had to show he could handle the job.

So far he has shown he can handle it.
