I'll put this here. Sessler "guesses" seven trades

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...elp-all-parties

Browns CB Joe Haden to the Cowboys

Speaking of Dallas, the 'Boys have issues beyond Elliott's suspension. Rod Marinelli is one of the game's craftiest defensive coordinators, but he's been handed a secondary bereft of reliable talent beyond promising young safety Byron Jones. In a division stocked with dangerous pass catchers -- Odell Beckham Jr., Terrelle Pryor, Jamison Crowder, Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall -- Dallas could use a hand at cornerback. Haden has been one of Cleveland's most loyal assets, but the club's front office has made a cottage industry of moving expensive veterans in exchange for draft picks. Joe Thomas isn't going anywhere, but Haden -- no longer a top-five player at his position -- would have a chance at a Super Bowl ring in Dallas. As for Cleveland, another valuable draft-day selection would help the team build for a brighter tomorrow.

Browns OL Cam Erving to the Chargers

Back to Cleveland, where the team's current decision makers must figure out what to do with a player they inherited who refuses to live up to the billing. A first-rounder in 2015, Erving has struggled at center and looked like a comprehensive liability filling in for Joe Thomas at left tackle in Thursday's preseason opener. Unlikely to beat out Shon Coleman on the right side, Erving needs a fresh start. The Browns won't get much in return, but the Bolts -- constantly wading through injuries up front -- are one team that could take a low-level flier on a player with a fair amount of potential. If Erving's not their cup of tea, the Chargers would be wise to inquire about Eagles center Jason Kelce.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If we can get ANYTHING for Erving, it would be a steal!! Dude should have been cut a long time ago.

the fact that Ray Farmer hasn't gotten another gig (in any level) is quite telling

speaking of Gilbert, did he even get a tryout this summer? was he in a camp?

No. No.

He got suspended for a year.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...pended-one-year

He's done.

What a draft.

Same thing as that kicker that Tampa selected in the second round. Heard he shanked a 49 yarder with the Bears.

Awful pick there, too...

Agreed. A conditional 7th round pick in 2021 would be larceny.

It's exactly what we should be trying to do. Move his cap hit to another team, who cares if we never get anything back.

Somehow we got a real pick for Justin Gilbert. Insanity.

Clark, Butch/Garcia, Savage, Kokinos, Lombardi,
Farmer...they all have hurt us and I don't think they have gotten back in football in any capacity of merit. I think Heckert has. But Drafting has hurt us as a franchise so so much and we put our trust in these guys to turn us around and they failed so bad that their careers are basically over.

I dunno... it's not that crazy.

Gilbert has the God-given ability. He can play, his head was just so far up his butt, that kept him off the field. I don't think it's that crazy for a team like the Steelers to scoop him up dirt cheap to try to see if they can get him properly motivated.

A guy like Erving, on the other hand, has the opposite problem. He doesn't seem like he can hang in the big league. He can have the best attitude and work ethic in the world, but if he just can't get it done, then nobody will give him a job.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I think it's worse than that. I think he is a coach's nightmare.
He has the physical ability and I think he has the determination and work ethic. His problem is between the ears. He seems to be so obsessed with not screwing up that it is all he is thinking about and he is destined to screw up.

This teases a coach who sees both potential and effort and makes him hard to cut.

The elite blocking in the NFL requires perfect technique that simply has to be habit. It's kind of like kicking in that way. If you are thinking about it, you are going to be to slow to react.

Cam is the type of player that may suddenly get it or he may never get it. Aside from a normal couple of Cam Erving type plays last game, he had a pretty decent game considering he was suddenly playing on the left side again. Of course those normal couple of Cam type plays were drive killers.

If we can't trade him, I would keep him on the bottom of the roster where he doesn't have the pressure. The light may come on but it might not. That really depends on if someone else on the bottom of the roster is out-playing him, but so far I'm not seeing any stand-outs at the 3rd string level.

Good post. I agree w/most of it, but wanna touch on that mental thing.

If a person is at the plate and is thinking.."I hope I don't strike out," well, guess what will probably happen.

If a person is at the free throw line and is thinking "I hope I don't miss"........well, guess what?

I think you get the picture. Thinking positive thought in athletics is huge!

Well, let me amend that.............Thinking positive thoughts in whatever you do is huge.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make. He has the yips!
If you notice, it is usually a new mistake every time. That is a sign that he quickly fixes one mental error but while worrying about that one, messes up somewhere else.

They do have sports psychiatrists out there that can help. They teach you how to do mental reps in your head where you are succeeding step by step. Those mental reps translate into habit eventually. I'm not sure if anyone has tried it with Cam, but he is a good candidate for it.

Speaking of Available players are there any teams loaded at receiver this year that we might be able to bargain with to upgrade ours. Coleman may be the only receiver we have. Britt has one foot into retirement. He doesnt want to be out there. i see a roster full of 5th and 6 receivers.

Anybody know about this guy? Should the Browns be interested?

Talk in Jacksonville that Jaguars may look to trade Allen Hurns

PFT
by Michael David Smith
August 23, 2017

A year ago, the Jaguars were so high on wide receiver Allen Hurns that they signed him to a four-year, $40 million contract extension. This year, the team’s view of Hurns appears to have changed.

There’s talk in Jacksonville that Hurns could be traded, with Jaguars beat writer Ryan O’Hallaran guessing that’s what the team wants to do.

An undrafted rookie in 2014, Hurns had a breakout season in 2015, catching 64 passes for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns. But last year his production declined significantly, and new Jaguars boss Tom Coughlin may think the team erred in giving Hurns such a big contract after just two seasons.

Hurns is due a base salary of $7 million this season, and it remains to be seen whether any team wants to trade for that salary. Hurns hasn’t played yet in the preseason, perhaps because the Jaguars want to keep him healthy and attractive to potential trade partners.

Allen Hurns was really good in 2015:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HurnAl01.htm

He missed five games last year (2016) and still 477 yards receiving. He'll turn 26 in December.

My first thought was swap him for Osweiler. The Jaguars may want a different option at QB with their only two guys being Chad Henne and Blake Bortles (Henne is starting the third preseason game for Jacksonville).

(I doubt ^this^ happens.)

Thanks. If we're going with a rookie QB, I'd like him to have some veteran weapons and I think our WR corps is pretty thin in terms of talent and experience. Along those same lines, I also think they should consider re-signing Gary Barnidge, who's still a FA. (Although I admit its not a good sign that he's available at all.)

That was meant to be a joke.

I would love to add another receiver. I have no faith in any of the non-Corey Coleman guys.

The Jets got Khony Ealy off waivers. We have the #1 waiver priority, so that means we didn't put a claim in on him.

I thought there was a chance we would. Wonder what the reason is we didn't ... whether Williams is happy with our own DL, or Ealy isn't what we wanted.

I read that Ealy wasn't fitting in with their conversion from 3-4 to 4-3. It makes sense to me that, if that is the problem, then he would have the same problem here.

Ealy was an under-achieving problem child in Carolina. The Pats figured that they could turn his attitude around, but failed. He had a couple of incidents where he banged heads with Belichick, so it's no surprise he was an early cut. He is not the kind of player we want on this team.

I don't think that Brantley is going to make this team, either .... for the same reason. JMHO
