The past 2 seasons [Haden] has given up 72 catches on 110 throws into his coverage, 1059 yards and 10 touchdowns while notching just 3 INTs.

The above play (^) is my favorite Joe Haden play of all-time. He got up on that interception.

everyone saying this was a cap move, i don't think it was at all, i think, however it was 100% moneyball analytics. Sure salary went into the equation, but not really for cap reasons, moreso probably for value reasons

I do not like this move. The Browns are a weaker team today because of this move. This team is so far under the cap they could have waited until after the season to cut him. I guess we have joined the Jets and Bills aiming for the #1 pick next season.

I think our defense will be fine regardless...hell we still haven't given up a TD yet.

Not that the Steelers really need anymore help in beating us, but c'mon, they now have our playbook 11 days before the season opener.

As of today and right now...yes Burley would be the 4th CB.

Also plays gunner.

Our corners suck! I wasn't as high on Haden as most, but man, considering the group we have.......our team is now weaker in my opinion.

If he knows the offensive playbook, yes it does. It doesn't really matter about the defensive playbook, because everyone knows the scheme. Everyone has seen it. They'll need to change the calls, so they're not stealing them on the sideline, but that isn't a huge deal.

Not that we could before, but this team can ill afford an injury at CB now.

I don't foresee a better corner being waived.

I wish he had signed outside the division, but I won't say anything bad about him. I don't think we should have cut him.

I'm betting that we pick up Kyle Fuller once Chicago cuts him or someone similar for the 4th CB.

I think he can shut Britt down but a Duke, Louis or Coleman will eat him up. He can handle big physical receivers but man small speedy guys, he is beat by the time they hit 20 yards by 5.

To me the film clearly shows different.

Teams are motivated by their own situations that govern there decisions and however much they are paying him I doubt he's making the 11.whatever he was gonna make here.

Your last sentence you say- Joe isnt as 'bad' as those guys...what guys are u talking about? Last I thought it was clear that Joe wasn't as good and that opinion is backed up PFF and FOB.

Those 3 guys might be better than an injured Joe Haden, but he's not injured now. They'd better be better than a guy playing with 2 tears in his groin.

This year I haven't seen any body with great coverage. The other guys may have made more splash plays, but I think they've had more favorable situations.

I also think some of Joe's "getting beat" is him passing off WRs and covering the RB releasing to the flat as is his assignment at times. There might also be instances where he is in outside technique making sure the "ball doesn't go over his head in a hurry" and he'll "get beat" by the in-breaking/crossing stuff.

I think the tales of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.
You can excuse awayor what if any players mistakes. You can excuse his play from previous years due to injury. But at the end of the day injured or not he didn't perform as well as those guys. The play I mentioned was Cover 2 man. He came up to jam Marshall got beat and Marshall was going up the sideline it would have been s big gain save for an errant throw and Jabrill Peppers presence.

I completely understand why they asked Joe to take a pay cut. Otherwise they'dbe paying 11.x to a CB they hope is healthier then theyve been the past 2 seasons.

I wish Joe good health and good luck. But I wouldn't pay him 11.x mil either.

Don't like the fact that Joe went to Pitt, but I can't fault him for it.

As much as he repped Cleveland, he never really had a dislike for our rivals. It was more of doing it for the fans.

Still wish him the best, just not against us.

The way I see it, he got cut by us.

He can do whatever he wants. He owes us nothing. We left him, not the other way around.

I do wish him the best, hope he sucks against us, and hope that he retires a Cleveland Brown someday

I understand why they asked him to take a paycut. I don't understand why they simply cut him. Him ending up on the Steelers seemed the logical landing spot as soon he was released. Why not trade him to someone we weren't playing twice this season including week one? Offer to take on some of the money like has been mentioned in potential Brock trades perhaps. Interest was there.

Maybe I'd be more concerned about getting beat by Brandon Marshall if it were a regular season game, but at the same time, it was Marshall, who has been a good receiver for a long time and still had fresh legs at that point. Is Haden as good as he's ever been? Probably not, but he's not as completely washed up as some are making out.

I wish they had coaches tape of the preseason games on Gamepass, so I could get a better feel for all the DBs. Honestly, it's hard to get a good read on any of them.

Haden lacked the highlights of some of the other guys, but if they only saw the highlights one could probably convince themselves that Erving is a solid OL.

So you think Joe was still our #1 corner and we should have put him on every opponent's #1 receiver? You think he was playing great ball?

The Browns asked him to renegotiate his contract. He refused. He would still be a Brown if he had agreed. Yes, the Steelers signed him to what amounts to a 7 million one year deal and then see contract... They sure as hell didn't sign him to a huge long term deal. Why not if he's such a stud corner? Because he isn't that guy anymore. He's a fill in for them until they can find someone better. If he were still on the Browns I think he would have been at BEST our #2 and we'd be giving him safety help all the time or he'd be lit up. More likely he'd be playing nickel against #3 recievers.

I suspect that both Hue and Williams were.

Well, not sure I can see this another way

-Browns became a weaker defense today
-piit got better today

Maybe I'm being naive, and I know we weren't going to light the NFL on fire this year. We weren't going to nuts in free agent spending. However I really thought at this point we were trying to win the most possible games this year, put our best foot forward with what we have.

This may be a bit dramatic, but his move feels like a punch in the gut to a fan base that has been more than patient.

I don't know if Joe was still our best cornerback or not. I suspect none of you do either. However, I have read that the team thinks Taylor is better and Jim Donovan has said he thinks Joe was 3rd best. That being said, I am sad to see Joe go. 3rd best (if true) is still good enough for me.

I think both Coach Jackson and Williams were. I suspect Williams told Hue and the front office that Haden was not going to line up as the #1 corner this year and it is possible that he told them he was a nickel at best.

I liked Haden but he was never that stud best in the league corner you expect when you draft a corner that high. The fact is we made a mistake drafting him. We SHOULD have drafted Earl Thomas. Still, Joe played very well for us and up until two years ago was our best corner. The last two years he was constantly hurt and this off season was not looking good. They made him an offer to renegotiate and if he had then he would still be here instead of playing on a one year deal for someone else. If he sucks for the Steelers he will be signing elsewhere next year for around the league minimum.... If anyone signs him at all... He BETTER light it up for Pitt. or he could be out of the league in short order.

He's going to help Pitt with our tendencies. Joe was a Brown for eight seasons, good luck man.
