I have to say that hogan is really impressing me. He is quick, decisive, reading defenses well, throwing with authority and zip, and most importantly he is throwing with the best ball placement of all our our QBs.
I have a feeling that if he ever gets the chance to start that he is going tear it up and take over this team.

Not sure who Kelly Hogan is, but I had Kevin Hogan rated far above Kessler when they were coming out of college...........and I wasn't alone.

Kessler is Colt McCoy .85. Safe to say Hogan isn't practice squad stashable this year.

I like the kid but play wise Kessler brought up the rear. BO is getting paid this year regardless, but he would probably be picked up if cut almost as fast as Haden. So...
Kizer, Hogan are keepers the other two, Meh.

I have a friend that has been the equipment manager for Stanford for maybe 5 or 6 years now (though he just left this offseason), so I watch a lot of Stanford. I'm a fan of Hogan based on what I saw on the field and what Mike said about the kid. He had a major flaw in his release coming out of college, that I said if could be fixed (a big if when I said it on here), he could be a darn good QB. I'm glad that he's had the opportunity to show his talent and hope the best for the kid (preferrably with us).

I'm glad that he's had the opportunity to show his talent and hope the best for the kid (preferrably with us). Hogan has a great story and background too. I hope he succeeds. Is there anyway Kessler would make it through waivers? He is still eligible for the practice squad under the new rules: Each team can keep 10 players on its practice squad.
Up to four of those 10 players can have two accrued NFL seasons. So, was a player on the 53-man roster for at least six games of two NFL seasons? Sorry, they’re out of luck.
It used to be that three weeks of an NFL season spent on a practice squad counted as one full season of practice squad eligibility. Now, that number has been increased to six weeks, which expands some players’ eligibility.
A player can spend no more than three seasons on any practice squad. With the sorry state of backup QBs in the league, I don't think there is anyway Kessler goes unclaimed.

Seems like we have two locks to make the QB squad: DK and KH ... Cody probably will too

Kizer is still just a rook I'd rather anyone other QB start than him this year. He just takes too long to decide where to throw that ball. Kessler and Hogan both are making fast decisions in comparison. I see more desire by Hogan to go after that deep ball Hue likes though. Hogan is not afraid to let loose down field and he seem the most accurate downfield of all our QBs too.

We remarked on him at the bar. I really liked how he looked over the field, looked off the D (a lost art), and actually made good choices. Most of the guys felt he outplayed CK; he did about everything he was asked to do.
Great notch and it was fun to watch!

I really loved how well placed the ball was on his throws. It really surprised me because it was so much better than All of our other QBs that I couldn't understand why he was competing to start.

I do love the grit of a Kessler. He's a tough guy with lots of heart. He fights like crazy and you gotta love and respect that. So I'd keep him unless we can find another Hogan or another older player that still has some skills and has the ability to mentor the young guys when the cuts come down. I'm not sure Oswieler is that guy. Especially not at 16 Million a year. If I had to make a choice, I'd say keep Hogan as my number 2 and Kessler or someone that is let go by another team as #3, and trade/cut Oswieler. With that contract, I suspect that a trade won't happen.

Won't see the game till Saturday 1pm.
But I saw the one hi-light and realized our 3rd unit is so much better than other teams. Hogan had no pressure moved around the pocket and around 5 seconds he hits a WIDE open Telfer in the chest (where he can catch it...lol) for a 53 yard touchdown. I read also that Kessler did well.
I don't wish to see our backups for the reason that would mean we got injuries with our QB. I think that is going to be a sign that we are HERE and a viable football team. No Man Down! But I like our backups as far as backups go. I would not put Hogan ahead of Kessler. Thats just me. What is important for me is that Kizer is the STARTER!

jmho It's a hard call to make but if this was day 1 I would start Hogan over all our QB's because he has shown himself to be a far more accurate passer and throws a much more catchable ball. He was also doing a good job of balancing quick reads to get rid of the ball and being patient to throw it deep when the defense let him. His deep passes were beautiful and even led the WR in some cases. I don't think Kizer is throwing anywhere near as good as Hogan. He can throw if further sure but you can't trust it to be where it should be YET. Plus Kizer hold the ball too long because the game is still too fast for him.

Hogan has done some good things.
But really unless you were at practice every day and have watched him versus Kizer. Kind of hard to predict he could take over the team.
Hogan has yet to play against a first string team. Has done next to nothing in a real NFL game.
I am not saying Hogan is anything good or bad. But I would not go overboard about what he could do until I have seen him accomplish something in real games.

Good things: enough to keep him on our Roster.
But keeping it in perspective all these good things he did is against Defensive players that more than likely are looking for a job today. jmho

Hogan actually moved the ball vs the Bengals last year when he came in for a injured Kessler I think he had 170 180 yards of offence by himself that game So he has experience vs 1st teamers
