I wish Greco luck for n his future career. I don't think it was only a money move, to be honest. I'd think that the Lis-Franc surgery/recovery was a big element in this decision.

Don't like seeing him gone but it's out of my control.
Now it'll be interesting to see other cuts around the league and if we find a younger versatile back up player.

Very surprised with this one...he was easily our best option if someone was to get hurt, and as many know and witness can hold his own as a
starter...
I hope these moves don't come back to bite us...but with this organization, it will...

Good luck to Greco

I've been a Greco fan for years...I would have kept him if it were up to me. However, cutting a 32 year old O lineman - who will be a backup on your team - and who is coming off Lisfranc surgery - on a team in year #2 of a massive rebuild - is NOT a giant surprise.

I have spent way to much time with our o-lineman and their families to realize that without those guys our team is screwed. O-lineman stick together like family, and our O-lineman are not stupid. They know this was a stupid move. It pisses me off it hurts our front office, and our team. It was a very STUPID MOVE.

4:00pm tomorrow...and then the changes will really start to hit. We won't see a "final" roster until Tuesday...if then.

A couple of possibilities... Maybe Greco wanted to go somewhere where he might have a chance to start. Maybe somebody a little younger with a similar skillset is on our radar... This cut baffles me otherwise.

That makes about as much sense as when people were saying Joe Haden asked for his release. Of course, he said he was shocked by his release and said it was about his contract.

A lawyer is making roster decisions.

I have a question. A serious question and not a sarcastic one. What type of law did Sashi specialize in? I'm guessing business law. Is that correct?

Sashi Brown (born May 15, 1976) is the Executive Vice President for the National Football League's Cleveland Browns, having assumed the position on January 3, 2016, replacing fired former GM Ray Farmer; he previously held the position with the organization as the team's executive vice president/general counsel, in which he was hired by the Browns in January 2013.[1]

Brown was an attorney with Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr, a private law firm based in Washington, D.C. As a member of the firm’s corporate law practice group, Brown advised companies in a variety of business transactions. He earned an undergraduate degree from Hampton University in 1998 and a juris doctorate degree from Harvard Law School in 2002. Brown is a member of the New York, District of Columbia and Florida bars.[2]

While working with the Jaguars organization, Brown served as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Section 8 Subcommittee to the Jacksonville Housing Authority. He also played a role in negotiating the naming rights deal for EverBank Field.[2]

Prior to that, Brown worked in the Washington D.C.-based law firm Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr as part of the business transactions group.[1]

I'm a bit confused.

A lot - and I'll take it a step further and say the majority - of posters on this board were trashing Haden non stop on this board, even when he had his all pro season.

Yet now all of a sudden it's a questionable-to- bad move on the FO?

Weird.

That isn't true. Most posters defended him from those of us who criticized him. In fact, I stopped making The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly threads after posters kept derailing that the thread each week if I criticized Haden.

I will freely admit I criticized Haden. But, here is the rub.............I always claimed he was overrated by the board. I still feel that way.

However, our corners suck and he was listed as our number one corner on the depth chart and by almost every single poster on this board.

Sashi [the business/corporate lawyer] cuts him and and all of a sudden people start saying he is our 4th corner. LMAO

There is a problem here, Houston...........but it isn't from the posters that questioned Haden's performances.

Thanks for responding.

I am going by what people posted on this board, especially in regards to the depth chart and also by how the Browns official depth chart.

I am pretty much saying that most of the posters supporting this move are full of crap. LOL.

But again, it's just an opinion. wink

I'm not a fan of the decision to cut Greco. I'm TRYING to see the logic. There are a few things that come to mind..IMO it's a moneyball decision and also IMO.. moneyball isn't always just money.. I think the lis franc / injury and the part about being 32 in a young mans game was the factor here.. I think as soon as you hit the 30 this FO has you on a short list. They want a young, fast, strong, healthy team.

Cutting one of your best offensive linemen is stupid. There was no respect intended. We have a business lawyer making football decisions.

I
Greco is 32, coming off major foot surgery, and not going to start. That's why he was cut.

I personally would have kept him, but I see why they did it.

Not saying I agree or disagree with what I am going to point out, it is an observation I just made and have not yet had time to give it consideration.

At this stage of the process of building the Browns, we are not going to keep anybody for just one year. Greco, D Bryant, Haden, Brock - if they had made the roster this year, it is extremely unlikely that any of them would have been on the roster next year.

Terrell Pryor - they wanted to sign him to a multi year deal but he wanted to play on a one year contract. We wouldn't do that but Washington would so that is why he is now a redskin.

This would explain a fair bit if true. Do you guys think this is the reasoning behind these moves?

I tried to copy and past the list but it doesn't format right.

In short we are down to 61 players after having cut 21 on Friday

now all of a sudden the FO made a bad move?

sorry but there's a lot of revisionist history going on here.

You're right about that. Just expressing my opinions. Not saying I am right. But, I sure as hell ain't gonna let the majority squash my voice.

I mean.......they can.......see the frequent BS suspensions, but I will speak my mind and have no problem w/you speaking yours. I have no problem w/calling each other out! Zero! I am not one of those politically correct sissies that worry about "he said this...." Gasp!

I don't know what happened to people, but arguing about sports teams has been part of our culture for the longest time. And I don't appreciate pansy-ass posts like the one P-Dawg just posted.

This notion of "we all have to agree" is lame. Kinda sounds like the socialist point of view. naughtydevil

i leave my craziness to EE and politics, i don't bring it to Pure football and gameday, and it would be nice if you learned to do the same.
