That athletic guy did as well as Britt who was an eight year veteran. One has just tapped his potential and the other has at least peaked.
I'll tell you what, after this season plays out, then tell me it wasn't a mistake. Tell me how it wouldn't have been smarter to pay Pryor a little more for a one year deal than to sign Britt to four years. Why? How? Not only are we having an imaginary discussion based on what Pryor may or may not do.... we've got to factor into the equation what it means. What good does it do the Browns to sign Pryor to a 1 year deal where he plays great - and instead of a 4 win season we go 6-12 or wow, lets say Pryor alone can make us a 3 win better team this year. What happens then when he wants EVEN more money than he was widely reported to wanted this year. Oh and now he's 30. . . and chances are good he will then be playing for a different team? How's does that help the team? Sure we can say sign him at any cost - pay him $20 mill a year. Whatever he wants. That's easy to say. Stupid to do with a 30 year old WR. . . Assuming he lights it up and is a top 5 WR this year.

Nothing's going on here. You made a statement that is complete exaggeration of what goes on in the 'Front Office' thread. I don't read it enough to know if there are people who are genuinely and generally blind to any mistakes the FO makes .... but I don't believe anyone thinks they are without mistakes. Schwartz is probably the best example of a mistake they made.
Pryor is not the same as RS - and it's no-one's fault Pryor is not here. I have not seen anyone blame Pryor or vilify him ... I think he made a huge mistake, but he needs to make what he thinks is in his own personal best interest. . . with that said when Mac writes that the Browns kicked him to the kerb and he was surplus and they wanted Britt more than Pryor .... it's simply not true. To my knowledge and memory Britt got a very similar contract to the one Pryor turned down. Definately not more and I believe less.
So let's be real about it. I know it's easy to get cheesed of with the conversation that NEVER stops and never changes. But that doesn't mean there's 'something going on'. jmo

WHY DO THE BROWNS SUDDENLY HAVE A NEED FOR WR HELP?
This front office drafted 4 wrs in 2016, using their analytics to pick the best wr talent. This season, the front went out and signed the best free agent talent available..a 1000 yd receiver, Kenny Britt.
Britt was deemed so good, Sashi Brown had no need re-sign Pryor to a 1 yr "show me" contract. Sashi and his group kicked Pryor to the curb, showing that they had no need for additional WR help.
So what changed between kicking Pryor to the curb and now?
Why the sudden need for WR help? So your story is that the FO wasted 4th and 5th round picks that haven't turned into first round picks in one year. Gotcha! Pryor is a Me first guy...good ridence I say.

Stop getting your panties in a bunch. We both think this FO is good. We are weak at WR and part of the reason for that is we don't have Pryor. We could have signed him to a one year deal to buy time to shore up the position. This FO made a mistake there. This isn't rocket science. Everytime I discuss something with you and you cannot hold a candle to the discussion...my panties seem to get bunched up...lol but your poop don't smell...
I made my point I also don't value WR fantasy points as a marker of value like some do. You don't need a dream team to succeed if you got the O solid and in sync. Guys with bad hands need to be unloaded. jmho

It sure looks like the Browns front office is getting close to "panic mode", trying to upgrade the WR unit they put together for the 2017 season.
The Browns front office is 100% responsible for the WR talent on this team. Given the fact that Sashi and the analytics boys have had two years to draft, develop and sign the best WR talent available..yet Sashi is still searching for help, at this late date? How can that be?
The Browns front office and analytics team didn't do a very good job of judging WR talent and that is the core issue.
I realize that many have a hard time admitting that the GM and analytics team could ever misjudge talent...but they did and it might be Kizer who is affected the most.
Cory Coleman is the lone bright spot at the WR position so far in pre-season. Hopefully Britt's play will improve and he can work his way out of the slump he is in.
Browns have some interest in Seahawks WR Jermaine Kearse Updated on August 31, 2017 at 1:37 PMPosted on August 31, 2017 at 1:35 PM By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com link CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns need receiver help, and are interested in Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, a source told cleveland.com. Kearse, 27, is on the trading block, according to ESPN's Diane Russini, and are trying to deal him before Saturday's roster trim from 90 to 53. Kearse (6-1, 207) is just one of a number receivers the Browns are considering. One of Russell Wilson's favorite targets since he was signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of 2012, Kearse had a disappointing year in 2016 after signing a three-year contract worth $13.5 million, including a $5.5 million signing bonus. The figures were down from his previous year, when he caught 49 passes fro 685 yards and 5 TDs. The emergence of some younger, less expensive receivers has made Kearse expendable. The Seahawks would like to get something in return if they choose not to play him his $5 million base salary in 2018. This year, he's making $2.2 million in base pay. Kearse, who caught the gamewinning touchdown passes in two NFC title games that put Seattle in the Super Bowl, earned coach Pete Carroll's praise after catching a 39-yard pass in the Seahawks' 26-13 preseason victory over the Chiefs Friday nigh "Yeah, he looked good tonight,'' Carroll said, via The Seattle Times. "He did a really good job. I thought the catch over the shoulder was a great throw, but it was better how he set it up and kind of lulled the guy to sleep, and then separated to make the catch right at the last moment. A really classy catch. He's been playing really great. He had a good game last week, too." The Browns are in the market for receiver help to complement Corey Coleman, who's been the only consistent playmaker in camp. Veteran receiver Kenny Britt, who signed a four-year, $32.5 million free agent deal in the offseason to replace Terrelle Pryor, has yet to make the big plays the Browns are expecting out of him. Against the Saints, he failed to get his second foot down in the end zone, and against the Bucs Saturday night in the dress rehearsal game, he dropped a pass from DeShone Kizer at the Browns' 5. Afterwards, Jackson said, "We got to catch that ball down there, which I think would have led to hopefully a score." The Browns have passed up other chances to sign veteran receivers this season, including former first-rounder Jeremy Maclin, who signed with the Ravens. If they don't land Kearse, they'll continue to look for receiver help in trades or on the transaction wire.

They are 100% responsible. It seems that unlike you, I like more of their decisions than I dislike. But it does appear to me that some posters ignore the mistakes they do make. And every FO and coaching staff makes mistakes.
Drafting four WR's in a very weak WR class was a mistake. I do however take into account that it was the first year most in this FO actually held their respective positions. I expected some growing pains. As such I saw some.
I liked their second draft much better. I see them cutting down on their mistakes. I see what I perceive to this point as improvement. I'll take it!

Pit - I agree with you. No front office is perfect. This FO has made mistakes but I think all in all they have been right more than they have been wrong.
mac - what part of trying to improve the team screams "panic mode"? If we trade a 1st for him then I will agree with you. But looking at all available players to weigh cost of obtaining them vs their value to the team is what a good FO does.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

You and others are so intent on what other posters think as if their opinion don't count. 1. I serious doubt they/I think that the FO don't make mistakes.
2. Why don't you stick to your opinion and if you wish to discredit posters do it with football not this I am better than you kind of mantra.
jmho btw..."MISTAKES" its not a proven mistake...see me in 3 years and I will admit to what CLEARLY IS A MISTAKE. Its Opinon that is all and yours is no better than others!

It seems that unlike you, I like more of their decisions than I dislike. pit...you are assuming this based on what?
I have not hammered the front office on most of their draft picks. Go ahead, check to see how many of their decisions I have voiced a negative opinion of...
No, I'm not a cheerleader who is in love with this front office, but I have not complained about a majority of their draft picks, either.
That does not mean that I will simply give this management team a pass for their obvious screwups...those decisions made, that make absolutely "no sense". The personnel moves that hurt the Browns chances to win, I will not excuse.
FOR EXAMPLE...The Mitch Schwartz debacle is one example of a "shoot yourself in the foot" mistake created by Sashi Brown over "hurt feelings". So what is more important, Sashi Browns' feelings..or re-signing those players who make your team better? It's hard to see this franchise building a winner when they are unwilling re-sign their own best players. Sashi's inability to negotiate a contract with Terrelle Pryor could end up being another prime example depending on the season Kenny Britt has. So far in pre-season, Britt has not looked real good, but I'm more concerned about his performance beginning with the Steelers and the next 15 weeks. That said, the fact that the Browns have shown interest in signing more WR help leads me to believe that the coaching staff is concerned about the quality of the WR group the front office together for the 2017 season. It would be a shame if our young QB did not have an adequate group of WRs to support his effort. I'm not sure what the main issue is with Sashi and his personnel group when it comes to getting tough contracts done, but the Browns can not continue to lose a valuable starter or two every year because Sashi and his group are not up to task of doing what GMs around the NFL do every year. Just this week Sashi attempted to get Haden to accept a pay cut and could not get it done..yet Haden accepts a pay cut from Steelers. Presently, with Isaiah Crowell's contract negotiations, Sashi's ability to get tough contracts done is again being tested. The results so far are beginning to look like a repeat of the Schwartz and Pryor negotiations, where hopeful articles are published by the Browns but only lead to a huge let down when the fans are told the Browns just couldn't find a way to successfully negotiate a contract with yet another Browns starter. I'm not sure what is wrong with our front office's ability to complete the tough negotiations...but I have a feeling this situation is not going to get better until something changes. With the latest news of the Browns front office not being able to trade Osweiler for any additional picks to help offset the $17 million dollars that Sashi and the Browns are now forced to eat...when I look back at money at issue between getting the Schwartz and Pryor contracts successfully negotiated I just shake my head and wonder about the priorities of this front office. Our front office is just fine with eating a $17 million charge for what will likely be a later 2nd round pick in 2018..yet Sashi could not come up with the money to complete the Schwartz or Pryor contracts.

Just what I gathered by your consistent posting against the FO. I could be wrong though.
And hey, I'm not real happy with what they've done over the past couple of days myself.

And I wasn't trying to take a pay cut." then there is this quote by Haden ^^^ might have something to do with it...just maybe brother

pit ..nice duck and dodge!
You make a claim that you can't backup even when I challenge you to show me.."the claim", that I dislike more of the front offices decisions than I like...
I pointed out that your claim was WRONG and challenge you to back up your "false claim"...but you give a BS answer instead of showing any evidence to backup the claim.
This front office had 24 draft picks over the last 2 years and countless other personnel moves and I have only taken issue with a handful of their decisions. Since you can't and/or have no intention of even tring to backup your "false" claim...might be best if you don't make such claims..claims you know are not true...just sayn, Pit.
For the record, the misjudgements I speak out the most loudly on, are those that I feel hurt the Browns chances to WIN.

I don't see any issue with our front office getting "tough contracts" done. They offered these players more than market value contracts and the players and their agents declined. I mean it's that simple. I'm 100% behind not overpaying players to play here. It seems like those are the contracts we've had in the past and we haven't won diddly poo. The funniest comment I read browsing through posts on here is that our front office is cheap and that no one can deny that because they haven't spent any money. I don't understand where people come up with this stuff. How about this, why not let the front office do their job and see this through. Winning a Super Bowl wasn't in their plans last year, it's probably not in their plans this year... but I can already see how this plays out... We are building our "base" franchise and we will eventually get to spending money on key free agents. I think they've even said that's their plan... When we do spend the money, those said posters are going to come out and say see I told you so. The problem is we could spend the money today and lose and those same posters will say these guys don't know what they are doing. I guess there's no pleasing everyone. We are in the midst of rebuilding (again, and I hate using that term), I'm not sure why that's hard for some fans to see. The front office tried to keep Schwartz, Pryor, and Haden, but they chose not to be apart of what they're building in Cleveland. Plain and simple.

Wrote this in another thread and figure it should be here.
I like the FO with most of their moves. I think their ability to offer contracts to players that gauge and value a player have been extraordinary. . . RS and Pryor both left - and it hurt our team and we can debate whether we should have 'overpaid' for them to keep them .... what we can't do is deny that in both cases the FO did a somewhat amazing job of rating the contract value the players were "due" based on the NFL.
The FO ability to get players that help the team AND compile and stockpile draft picks is outstanding. Someone with more time than me needs to sort through the Carson Wentz trade last year and factor in who we have on our roster that all came from the #2 pick last year. And then add into that the #1 pick we have next year too. . . . About week 5 or 6 when Kizer is struggling against a brutal opening schedule and Wentz is looking good - I am sure that topic will be reviewed !!
Compared to previous drafts I think the FO has made some good picks. Last year's defensive mid round picks look good. Coleman looks like he might become the WR we thought he was when we drafted him .... Garrett and Peppers and Kizer all *appear* to be solid selections. Everyone probably sees the potential in Njoku.
BUT BUT BUT - I do not believe the FO is head and shoulders above every other NFL team in evaluating talent in all rounds of the draft and in finding gems in the 5-6-7 rounds. Keeping EVERY player you select says you think you were right on every selection ... TWO YEARS IN A ROW ... that is not probable and based on the history of the NFL and all the other teams I doubt if it's even possible... unless of course you are arrogant and egotistical. That's a really big red flag for me despite all the other good things I have seen and could easily undo all the other good work done. jm 2 cents.

I think that you are not being honest in your evaluation of the FO and their 5-7 round selections.
Gone from the 2016 class are; Payton Caldwell Scooby
Not the case this year.
Who do you think we kept that should have been cut of this years late selections?
Gonzalez Dayes ???

I see your point, and will digest it before deciding if I agree or disagree. But I would point out that, for the 7th round at least, they are looking pretty solid; Dayes, Gonzalez, and a trade down that netted Taylor. The only flaw was Scooby (who I thought was a reasonable shot at lightning in a bottle.)

Still we have an enormous number of players from our last 2 drafts - a much much higher % than the rest of the NFL. And while we needed to cut out the dead wood and start over, I still think our % of drafted players kept smacks doesn't sit right. . . If they come through I will be delighted. But I do not have a high expectation.

This defense is coming together nicely.. FO has done a hell of a job.
Offensively, we are a WR or two away from being a problem.

So, the FO trades for Pryor, who was said to have attitude problems in NY for Davis, who was nothing but class and not a peep from the homers. Nah, y'all don't have agendas. LOL

LOL Pryor never really caught on here in the first place, in part because of the circumstances of the trade. Sources say the defensive coaches were miffed that the Browns traded away Davis, their starting middle linebacker, who was like the quarterback of the defense. So if Pryor was out of line on Thursday during the altercation, he probably wasn't going to get the benefit of the doubt. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...art_river_index

If they end up missing on the late rounders, big deal. There's WRs coming out every year.
People get way too worked up about this stuff.

I didn't have a problem with the trade at the time because we have a weakness at Safety and Davis didn't really fit the type of MLB that Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams likes. Williams likes guys with some speed and quickness to them not pluggers like Davis. Alas it didn't work out but I'm not gonna cry over it as no front office is going to hit on every trade.

Davis was a decent run stuffer and an asset to the locker room. He was not a building block, ordinary lb. Pryor was given a chance but wasn't impactful in spite of a suspect safety group. Like Joe T. said, when your boss tells you to do something....

Y'all excuse away every bad move they make. But, the bottom line is that the trade was not a good one for the Browns.

Your right it didn't turn out to be a very good trade but like I said, no front office is going to hit on everything they do. Heck look at New England, even their great franchise missed on the Kony Ealy trade.

We traded a guy that we were gonna cut for a guy that we eventually cut?
You wanna talk about the Greco move, I'll be right there with you.
Acting like we lost something with Erving or Davis though is a stretch.

Acting like we lost something with Erving or Davis though is a stretch. Gotta agree with you here. Hoping the FO is gonna do all you want them to do is a stretch. Just gotta hope they make more right/more significant right moves than the rest of the league's FO's. Demario Davis probably wasn't going to make this team. Calvin Pryor barely made the team. It's not exactly a big loss. The guy was a backup who made the team because Reynolds and that other guy got hurt. I'm not excited about Nacua, but hopefully we won't see much of him this year.
