To make matters worse, Hurricane Jose is set to hit many of the same islands that have already been destroyed by Hurricane Irma.

Has that ever happened before? An area taking a direct hit from a category 5 hurricane and then another direct hit from a category 4 hurricane a few days later? That is just extraordinarily bad luck.

No offense to anyone, but we might want to stick to discussing the hurricane on this thread.

Lot's of people evacuating. I was on I-26 W today in Columbia and it was like a parking lot.

After Hurricane Irma hit, Caribbean islands brace for Hurricane Jose

Already devastated by Hurricane Irma, Caribbean islands are now bracing for the back-end of a deadly double-whammy, as powerful Hurricane Jose prepares to make landfall.

The unrelenting pummeling of the Caribbean was set to continue this weekend as Category 4 Jose followed a similar path to Irma, the National Hurricane Center said. According to the NHC's 11 a.m. advisory, Jose was roughly 415 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands -- which Irma already hit earlier this week -- barreling in at 18 mph with 150 mph sustained winds.

Antigua and Barbuda were alerted of possible “life-threatening flooding" due to Jose.

Hurricane watches were in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Sint Maarten, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy. Those islands had already counted 12 of the 23 deaths related to Irma.

Meantime, Hurricane Katia was threatening to make landfall early Saturday in the state of Veracruz in Mexico.

Katia, classified as strong Category 2 hurricane and edging toward Category 3 status, has sustained winds of 100 mph, according to a Friday morning advisory. Hurricane warnings suggest rainfall from Katia could result in “life-threatening flash floods and mudslides, especially in areas of mountainous terrain," the National Hurricane Center said.

Katia is currently about 160 miles from Tampico, Mexico.

Mexico was hit late Thursday by a powerful 8.1-magnitude earthquake, leaving at least 35 people dead and triggering tsunami waves.

Jose?

Not to worry, Trump said he won't let any more illegals in the country.

Wouldn't have happened if Cuba paid for a wall.

Good news for those in the Carolinas, not so good for those in Florida and elsewhere: http://abcnews.go.com/US/hurricane-irma-forecast-strike-florida-keys-category/story?id=49697542

Hurricane Irma is now forecast to hit the Florida Keys as a Category 5 storm.

Meteorologists expect Irma to make landfall in the Keys between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. ET on Sunday. Overnight projections of Irma's path showed less of a threat to the Carolinas as the monster storm appeared likely to move directly up the middle of Florida and curve inland.

The National Weather Service's Key West office issued a dire warning in the wake of the updated forecast.

"Obviously Hurricane Irma continues to be a threat that is going to devastate the United States," Brock Long, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said at a press conference Friday morning. "We're going to have a couple rough days."

Irma was downgraded from a Category 5 to a Category 4 storm early Friday morning. As of 5 p.m. ET, the storm was moving west at 12 mph and located 345 miles southeast of Miami.

The National Hurricane Center cautioned that Irma is "extremely dangerous," with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, which are strong enough to uproot trees, bring down power poles and rip off the roofs and some exterior walls of well-built frame homes.

The National Hurricane Center issued its first hurricane warnings for Florida overnight, warning residents that "preparations to protect life should be rushed to completion."

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for barrier islands, coastal communities, low-lying areas and mobile homes across Florida, including the counties of Brevard, Broward, Collier, Indian River, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach and St. John. ABC News estimates roughly 1.2 million Florida residents have been ordered to evacuate.

Meteorologists predict Irma will continue to weaken as the storm moves inland Sunday into Monday. Irma will approach Jacksonville on Monday around 8 a.m. ET with winds of about 75 mph, which would make it a dangerous Category 1 hurricane. Then, Irma should weaken rapidly to a tropical storm, depression or a remnant low later Monday as it moves across state lines into Georgia, then potentially Alabama and Tennessee on Tuesday into Wednesday, meteorologists say.

Disney World announced in a statement Friday afternoon that its theme parks and water parks -- as well as Disney Springs and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex -- would be closing early Saturday and remain closed through Monday. Disney's resort hotels will remain open.

The worst of Irma's winds and storm surge are projected to be near Marathon and Key Largo, but meteorologists say Miami and heavily populated southeastern Florida will still be on the strongest side of the storm.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Friday declared a state of emergency in anticipation of Irma's potential impact.

“It is unfortunate that just as our nation has begun the process to repair the catastrophic damage from Hurricane Harvey, that we are faced with another extreme storm,” McAuliffe said in a statement. “However, if there is one lesson we can take from the tragic events that occurred in Texas, it is that we must redouble our preparation efforts."

Meanwhile, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for 94 counties in the state, his office said in a press release.

A storm-surge warning was in effect Friday morning for the Florida Keys and the Sebastian Inlet southward around the Florida peninsula to Venice, with the National Hurricane Center saying there is "danger of life-threatening inundation from rising waters moving inland from the coastline, during the next 36 hours."

Moreover, heavy rains are forecast to drench northern Florida, Georgia and even possibly South Carolina and Tennessee by Tuesday. Rainfall accumulations in southeast Florida and the Florida Keys are expected to reach 10 to 15 inches, with totals up to 20 inches locally. Eastern Florida up the coast to Georgia is expected to receive 8 to 12 inches, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Government personnel have been deployed from Alabama to North Carolina to prepare for Irma. Florida alone should anticipate days-long power outages, FEMA said.

Turks and Caicos pummeled, Bahamas next

The Turks and Caicos islands were hit hard as Irma passed over the tiny archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. A government spokesperson told ABC News the British overseas territory had sustained "catastrophic" damage.

The National Hurricane Center warned of a storm surge up to 20 feet on Turks and Caicos with 8 to 12 inches of rain for the low-lying islands through Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Bahamas began to experience the extent of Irma's wrath Friday morning. The storm's speed was expected to slow as the core of the hurricane passed between the Bahamas and the northern coast of Cuba.

According to The Associated Press, at least 20 people have died and thousands were left homeless as a result of Irma, the most powerful Atlantic storm in a decade, after it battered a string of Caribbean islands on Wednesday. At the time, Irma was a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph.

Long, the FEMA administrator, said at the press conference Friday that the agency's primary goal is to "stabilize the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico" by restoring power, maintaining security and bringing in life-sustaining supplies.

This is simply amazing.

In all areas of evacuation, there are 6.5 million people who have been asked to leave. Many people have been evacuated a couple days ago from Miami to Tampa are now being asked to evacuate Tampa. They are really worried in Tampa. Another city with flooding issues.

There are some people who thought it would be ok to stay in their homes and now cant get into shelters in the Miami area.
Everyone is being told to get out of the Keys. There is a possibility that the keys might look like when Irma went through the islands. So they just showed a massive line of traffic trying to get out of the keys.

Also, the GFS model is still showing tonight that Irma will undergo bombogenesis in the 88 to 90 degree water int the keys. Bombogenesis is when the storm drops 24 millibars in 24 hours.

Low lying areas of Tampa have been told to evacuate. But not most areas. My Dad has a house on the water off Tampa Bay and he isnt worried at all. Cat 1 by the time it reaches him.

He only cares about the power outages because that will make things difficult for a while,

Drop in pressure basically makes the storm stronger... My guess is that a huge drop like that would speed it up and make it stronger...

rapid intensification. pressure drops 24mb in 24 hours; the lower the pressure, the higher the wind will be and the more moisture vapor will be taken from the water.
If this storm bombs out and the winds have time to catch up, it could back to 165 maybe 170 when it passes over the keys.
Still waiting to see if it rubs Cuba, interaction with land might hinder development

These reporters on the weather channel drive me crazy. They always have to stand outside in the middle of the hurricane in the flood water, Then they say stupid things like "I can't hear you".

I am always rooting for the hurricane to blow them away. lol

Just got out of a tornado warning here. Stuff is starting to pick up here and I lost direct tv about two hours ago. Right before I lost signal, they were saying people were evacuating back to Miami.

I always wonder about this type of thing.

"Evacuate!!! It's not safe for anyone!!! You will die!!! If you don't believe us, check out our 20 different reporters standing on the streets/beach/etc."

Headline: "man nearly drowns in Irma storm" video shows a guy in Key West filming the waves when some water knocks him down. He then stands up.

It's a hurricane. Stuff happens.

As with all things, the media attempts to dramatize things.

(I'm NOT saying it's something to take lightly)

Its like this reporter early today. "Look at the angry sea with large waves about to come over the railing"

Me : Dont stand next to the railing. Youre gonna die, why are you doing that.

So much drama for ratings.

The headlines have been way overboard.

Hurricane Slams

Irma Destroys

Might be the deadliest (watch our news reporter standing in the middle of it)

Could be the worst ever

Hurricane Beats down

Heck, use any term for "it's a storm", they've certainly used it.
