Friday on Total Access on the NFL Network thay had a discussion about the great teams of certain decades.
The 60's were the Packers.
The 70's were the Steelers.
The 80's were the 49ers.
The 90's were the Cowboys.
This decade is the Patriots.
After the list and discussion of teams were given, the question was asked of the 2 guests (one was Joe ?, the manager of the Hall of Fame and the other was Peter King) Joe felt that the Steelers of the 70's was the greatest "Team" of all time, but Peter King stated that he felt the post war Brown's was the greatest team of all time.
Good to finally get some love from the man. I know it was 50 years ago, but the until recently the Steelers were still living off of the 70's, 30 years ago.

Any thoughts?

Honestly I believe the 85 bears were the best "team." Nice to see the browns get some love though.

I agree....I saw some of the great teams on the 50's, but it sucks we have to think about that.

I came in with some great Browns football. I would like to go out with some as well.

I'd say the teams listed were the greatest of the decades in question, can't quibble with that list. I dunno who the greatest all-time team is (maybe '85 Bears, maybe the Cowboys of the early 90s, or perhaps the Steelers of the 70s with four in six seasons, IIRC). But, I do know who the greatest fans in football are.
No doubt about it. We've already walked that walk.

i really think that these patriots teams that won are the greatest of all time, to have a dynasty during the free agency era, and have the players make sacrifices to stay together on the team. jmho

Since I lived in the 'Burgh during most of the 70s, it's hard not to say that the 70s were the greatest era. I still remember the first year the Steelers won the Super Bowl, celebrating in the streets of downtown Pittsburgh.

However, I have to admit, what the Pats have done in the free-agency area this decade has been very impressive. (wow, don't quote me on this!)

no doubt...

in my opinion, the greatest team of all time was the dallas cowboys during their run, they could do it all... and i don't know if i've ever seen blocking quite like that... offense, defense, special teams, the '72 dolphins, '85 bears don't hold a flame to it...

the patriots are right there though...

I will always feel that the 80's era is the best, so far, because of Bernie Kosar and the Cleveland Browns. However, since this is not one of the choices, I still choose this era and the 49'ers. Joe Montana just had a will to win and Jerry Rice was absolutely phenominal. Although, I think the Cowboys and Pats may have had the best balanced teams. I also must give lots of respect and credit to the Steelers, very tought D and perhaps underrated on O.

Not to mix apples and oranges, or point out the obvious, the 50's Browns won three titles to the 80's none. Unfortunately, the Browns were probably the best team in the AFC from 86-90 -- just didn't prove it.

However, the firepower of the 80's teams would most likely overwhelm the defenses of the 50's, head-to-head.

Being somewhat of a old timer on the board, I have to vote for mid 70's to mid 80's, this was a time before $$$$$ really really got in the way of a team, Very few holdouts of any sort, rookies were in camp, never even thought of holding out, what was a hold out anyway, rookies actually played first proved themselves and then got the big money, Stroids were being used but were hush hush and not the top story in the news every night,

The game was played outside in Minnesota, & Detroit..and on grass & bye mid season on dirt, Players got dirty, grass stains were a norm, & end zone dancing wasnt about disrespecting a team or a city or a nation it was about having a good time & laughing with your teammates.

mid 70's - mid 80's I cant say were a better type of game, steelers winning stunk, but growing up in that era and having alot of great childhood memories from Steeler Browns games, Turkey jones, Dieken, fighing Lambert on the sidelines and of all people to come over and help 5' 5" Greg Pruitt, who was 150 pounds wet....The game today I still love but has lost some of it's charm due to contract holdouts, players & owners greed, back than as a boy it was a game and thats all I saw in my naive eyes a game, as I grew up so did the game into were I saw a Buisness which took time out on Sundays to play a game...and to me seeing that side took alot away from the charm of the game.

I feel the same way about the 60s.... No holdouts. Rookies wanted to get in camp to prove themselves. As to the Browns.... Paul Brown, Blanton Collier, Jim Brown, Ernie Green, Leroy Kelly, Frank Ryan, Gary Collins, Paul Warfield, Bill Nelson....

The Great Packer teams. Johnny Unitas. Bart Starr. Joe Namath. The founding of the Bengals. The merger. The first Super Bowls. All great stories around the NFL.... and of course, the 1964 NFL Championship.....
