My dad and step mom are in Deland. (Volusia County, about 20 miles from Daytona Beach)
I spoke to her this morning, and they are hunkering down. They have the storm shutters in place, and lots of food and water in place, so hopefully they will be fine.

So I guess the storm is here.
It was very windy yesterday. They were forcasting 60mph gusts, and I was getting scared when I went to sleep.
I wake up....and nothing. Barely drizzling. No wind.
I don't understand what is going on.
It's kinda creepy. The weather map looks like doom.

I liked all the posts about the reporters. LOL.........it's so true.
I love when the reporter is grimacing in the face of pelting rain and wind and then says something like:
"Authorities are telling everyone to stay indoors because it is not safe to be out in the storm." LOL.........they say that while standing outside in the storm.

we have a friend that lived just east of Tampa she went to a hotel and is safe. My brother who works at the space center at the Cape. They evacte him to Kissimmee a couple days before landfall.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Here in Columbia, SC..........my daughter just called and texted a picture of a tree that fell across a power line and both are lying across the roof right above the kitchen.
We called SCE&G right away, but they haven't arrived yet.

Keep away if it is still in contact with the wires, wet wood won't keep you safe from electricity. If the power is out, it can come back on suddenly or it can back feed from down the line. Be aware of fire potential if the power does come back on. Good Luck!

Is it really that important?
There are some people who might not realize what to do first in a situation like that, or who may just get freaked out when a tree lands on their house. It's not like that's somehow beyond the realm of the believable.
