So my Online connection was down Monday am till about 6pm...getting old and forgot to pay my bill...lol
On to the thread I know its up a little late...possibly better as some dawgs have a better chance to reflect on this.
Point blank we lost, I thought we could win from day ONE so actually I don't accept the - OH we played well. Not enough to win. Point blank.
The Start really really hurt us. Like one minute and we are down 7 nothing. Fates against us? As that ball was blocked hard and was going out of the end zone for a safety...but it had an incredible spin on it. That kept it in so that the Steelers can get the TD. From then on we out played the Steelers only to LOSE!
Kizer: He is a rookie. For the most part he did OK not this adoration that he is receiving for the Media, that is because they all thought we were going to be blown out and we weren't. Fact is he got sacked 7 times and 6 of them was avoidable as he chose to hold onto the ball instead of throwing it away...didn't see if any check down WRs (RB or TE) were open. Still sacked like many rookies do. One of them was Crowell's fault. As Shaun Coleman immediately took the outside edge rusher a blitzing DB and Crowell went right up to Coleman's back but there was no mistake about it Coleman was taking this guy point blank...there was a delay blitz in the B gap where Crowell had to step up into once seeing Coleman taking the outside Rush...he was not there and he tried at the last second but too late and Kizer got sacked. Of course at the end of the season when we have 70 sacks we will be told that our OL sucks...smh
Won't stray back on Kizer.
I was disappointed twice as we had 3 Long passes to the right side. One was Williams on the sidelines deep he made the catch I thought he could have made the great play and get 2 feet down. Pass was a touch I mean touch wide but a good throw. The other 2 had Haden beat long. Once with Duke and we had another I forgot to who. But both had separation and both passes where thrown long. I came to expect the one pass he did excellent was his long throws. I think he just got excited on those throws seeing the WR there. But that hurt us. We have to execute on wide open deep passes!
Britt had one disappointing drop pass over the middle. For the Record I heard on talk radio Pryor had a bad case of the Dropsies for the Redskins.
Coleman looks like the real deal. I think him and Kizer have a good thing going together, that is so so important and its something that will just get better!
Good to see Devalve get a lot of reps. Love his hands he just was a tad away from some serious YAC.
Hue: Jackson, love him as our coach but two things bothered me. 1. Our running scheme. Sorry but Crowell is not a lateral runner. It seemed all our running plays were read option or stretch plays which do not bode well for Crowell going East/West. The kid is a dominant NORTH/SOUTH RB If that is/was our game plan then Duke should have gotten a lot of reps out of it. Or we have to seriously draft a 4.3 speed scat back!
2. Near the end of the game. TIME OUT to view a replay of the dropped pass called a catch? Just throw the red flag...you got two available and it was minutes left after 2 minute warning its all called from upstairs anyways. NO reason to call timeout then once seeing the replay KNOWING THE BALL CAME out (but we all know rules are different for the Steelers) we then throw the Red flag only to lose and get a 2nd time out used on ONE FRIGGEN PLAY....that was just a dumb move plain and simple. Hue like everyone...GET BETTER on that stuff!
Antonio Brown is amazing. Just amazing. The big play was a 20 yard throw up the middle. Schobert, who I thought played excellent, dropped back deep and got his fingers on the throw, only to tip it right into the hands of AB. Peppers came flying from his Deep deep drop and was easily avoided by AB and it turned into a 50-60 yard gain. I believe was their first TD after the punt fiasco. It was a momentum changer as it gave hope to the Steelers.
Announcers...everything we did good was because we must of been lucky due to obvious penalties like we don't count. And I saw a TON OF PENALTIES NOT CALLED!
Defense...Man o man imagine us actually getting better? Usually around week 8 the D gets like a well oiled Machine. Can't wait for Garret to come back. Orchard did an excellent job and a good exciting attitude to the game. Nassib, man this kid seems very average in practice and preseason but all I know is HE SHOWS up for the real games. He was intense and all over the place. Great job him and Orchard had us not missing Garret much at all!
Thought our CBs played excellent. I remember McCourty disappointing myself but for the life me I can't remember the play all I remember is saying...Dang (well much worse exclamation than that...lol ) McCOURTY!!!! Getting old sucks 5 years ago I could tell you the steps he took on the play now I can't remember diddly!
Biggest difference from our DEFENSE from D's Past. SWARMING to the ball with team speed we had 3-7 guys on most tackles. Good team speed as well!
So will the NFL copy our Deep FS game plan against the Steelers. I really really like Williams. Too early to say but he might be our best DC in a long long time!
New kid Gonzalez did what he had to do!
Punt blocked maybe the worst blocking on a punt I HAVE EVER SEEN...and we are backed up close to our End zone - how can that be a surprise! Terrible - Shame on you special teams coach (Senior moment on his name...TABOR...yay. Got to take my morning pills.)
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Punt blocked maybe the worst blocking on a punt I HAVE EVER SEEN...and we are backed up close to our End zone - how can that be a surprise! Terrible - Shame on you special teams coach (Senior moment on his name...TABOR...yay. Got to take my morning pills.) It's always something with Teflon Tabor. Other parts of our special teams game might be up to par, but every season there's always something that's a disaster. Pisses me off so much 2. Agreed. Didn't realize this till after. I was all confused. Less than 3 minutes left, clock was running anyway, just throw the red flag. Who cares, as long as the clock gets stopped (it was pretty much our last feasible opportunity to use it). I bet this is a learning moment for Hue. Probably got caught up in the moment. Called the timeout, then heard from upstairs that he maybe should challenge the play.
This I agree with too. I like that Kizer is gaining the confidence of a lot of folks, but Jesus he held the ball way too long. He's gotta do better with that, no question about it. If only to stop my father's complaining, lol. Him repeatedly saying "This guy just isn't an NFL QB", and "I like a QB who gets the ball off quickly. Why isn't that big tall guy starting?" (to which I have to repeat that Osweiller was cut, and he had terrible accuracy). Hopefully next week we see improvement so that Pops can jump on the Kizer bandwagon

getting old and forgot to pay my bill Just don't start eating cat food, okay bro? Fact is he got sacked 7 times and 6 of them was avoidable Seemed to me on at least two of them he could have taken off running. It sort of looks to me like he is forcing himself to stay in the pocket even if there's a running lane, as though it's some sort of mandate from Hue. Sure, he needs to learn to throw it away, no doubt, but I want to see him use his legs more in those situations. I was disappointed twice as we had 3 Long passes to the right side. There were a couple passes, one I think to Duke and I believe the other one was to Njoku where Kizer really needed to put more air under the ball. I noticed that several times during the preseason as well. He throws frozen ropes when he needs some loft. Hopefully that will come with experience. Good to see Devalve get a lot of reps Dude is growing on me. I can't wait to see Njoku get it together. I didn't love a lot of what I saw, but Crow did have several nice runs. One in the beginning (1st down?) was called back by a holding penalty. He had some really nice catch and runs too. Overall, for the first game against a pit D who was stacking the box, it wasn't catastrophic. TIME OUT to view a replay of the dropped pass called a catch? Just throw the red flag. FWIW Hue said in his presser that he had already told the official that he was taking a time out after the play. When the play was over, the official immediately signaled the TO. At that point, it was a done deal. I supposed in hindsight it would've been better had he not challenged. It would've been better still had we made the play and either gotten to the QB or denied the reception. That was one time where I thought they should have sold out on the blitz. JMO Shame on you special teams coach The crucial mistake here, IMO, was trusting the block to a 7th round rookie. I mean, what the hell? Does he know who we're playing? One last thing. Kizer's last drive was nice. Gives me great hope for the future.

Dk held the ball too long because the game is too fast for him at this point. It will slow down for him as the season goes on. Also, some of our 2nd year players are doing pretty good. There young. Give them time. Patience my friends, patience. I did want to add DK needs to be told to throw the ball away or he will get hurt.

It's never a good thing when your QB gets sacked 7 times and on top of that, you get a punt blocked and it goes for a TD.
That was a really bad sign.
But in the end, I wasn't nearly as ticked off at the team.
They are young, I know that's not a good excuse, but it happens to be true. So, in the end, let them grow a little, hurt a little and I think they'll grow into a decent team...

meow...lol
I just wanted to make it clear...I love this team and our young players...I do think Kizer has a great shot at being our Franchise QB.
On the Hue time out/red flag. Listening to the presser as I'm reviewing and typing here. One thing hit me...Why call a pre time out. What if the pass was incomplete the clock stops. Did it have a precondition time out as in if the ball is in play call a time out. I'm sure if he said right away that he wants to red flag it instead of a time out they would have given us our time out back...well if we were Pittsburgh they would...lol
Anyways I don't think it cost us the game or anything but it could have.
Any plays stood out for you dawgs...woof woof! Give a detailed explanation - Steeler fans in the Dawgpound? Any at game posters wish to tell us what they saw.
Oh btw PROUD PROUD PROUD of our fans they really brought it this Sunday great noise and I could hear our O communicate!

Tab i agree about orchard. The kid needs to be on the field a good amount of each game whether garret is playing or not. If he stays healthy I think he could be a real stud

Should we, as fans, hit the reset button on Orchard now that he's in William's D vs Pettine's?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Schobert was soft in the redzone. He couldn't cover the TE. He made some good plays but disappeared when it counted the most....meh. He gave up the 14 points and that's who Pitt. decided was the weak link. It worked, they won. Kizer looks to have the talent, but can he catch up to the speed of the game? I think we've found our franchise QB. I've seen them all since Sipe and I've not liked one since Couch. The ball flies out of his hands and he has ice in his veins.Love Hue, but Kizer is taking too many hits. I stopped counting 7. Does Hue have too much on his plate? The pre timeout? He didn't think that through. Running the offense, managing the game and trying to teach Kizer on the fly is a lot. Kindred flashed and he deserves some credit. (I'm a Veteran with PTSD so excuse me if I don't get into much detail. Me memory is somewhat shoddy but I get a general sense of the game.)

MG is the missing piece IMO. With him, Nassib, Orchard and EO we have the makings of quite a pass rush. We really missed him Sunday. If he played who knows.

Couple of things.
I thought Kiser showed good pose, but he seemed more comfortable when it was a quick read and checkdown. When he went through the progressions is when he held it too long. Maybe Hue needs to make the playbook a little more simple. I was wondering if all the motion and formation switching was confusing him some.
Britt's drop was a killer. If he is having probs getting open, that;s one thing, but the drop was wide open midfield and should have been a big play.
All my co-workers laugh because I'm a Browns fan (I live in virginia) but I told them that the offense may struggle, but our defense is for real, and they showed it Sunday. I'm tired of hearing this CRAP about Bell being rusty, our D was all over that dude from the start.
I know we lost, but there were plenty of positives that cam out of that game.
PS. The Steelers are the dirtiest team I have ever seen. Hitting defenseless receivers, but the worst was Shazier. He was trying to break Kiser's arm on that late hit. He drove his helmet right into Kiser's forearm. And then Ben's crap on hooking that guy's leg. Both should at least be fined if not suspended, but they won't. Even if they got fined Tomlin would pay it, cause he preaches that cheat-shot douche-baggier that the Steelers pull every Sunday.

From what I've observed over 50 years of being a fan of sports; the rules are there for everyone but they are not as strictly enforced for members of some teams as they are for others. JMO

He gave up the 14 points and that's who Pitt. decided was the weak link. It worked, they won. One touchdown was ridiculously well covered, and a good pass and catch was made. The other was a very well drawn up play...... James looks like he's blocking, then quickly makes a move to the inside and catches a pass. I think that would have beaten out most NFL ILBs. I just watched the 14 points on youtube, and that's what I saw........

You mean favorites? The NFL? ESPN? Yep!
And have you noticed that some like us, even at our weakest and worst, get kicked while we are down and dragged through the coals. Not all the cheap shot wranglers are in pads. Some are clueless and just stirring up sludge pretending they are clever.

I think you're pretty spot on tab.
Kizer is a rookie and what people need to remember is that he is a very young rookie at 21. There will be growing pains. I really don't see his faults to be any more than most other rookies with more NCAA experience. So to me, with his lack of NCAA experience, he's ahead of the curve at this point. As with most rookies the speed of the game is causing him to hold onto the ball too long and he tries to make something out nothing. With experience I believe that can happen, but for now he needs to learn to throw the ball away and live for another down.
Williams made the best use of the D talent with his game plan. Most expected all out blitzes and five players attacking at the LOS. He decided to drop more players and keep the plays short by dropping the safeties deeper into coverage. A very smart game plan against a veteran QB with a strong arm. It's nice to see a DC who can vary his game plan depending on who the opponent is.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

What I saw? The cheaters once again winning with no fine or penalty. [I tried to put a gif of Ben twisting Ogbah's ankle here, but image hosting service wouldn't let me so here's a link instead Ben the cheater ] NFL almost impossible to watch these days. I'm 1 more rip-off game away from quitting. Which would suck, since I LOVE football my whole life, but I mean enough is enough.

I'll give the first TD (Even though if he was a bit bigger or quicker he could've gotten to it), but the second TD he got juked out of his shoes and couldn't catch up. Say I give you both TD's you assume were flukes? My other point, which ignored completely, was Pitt. decided Shobert was the weak link. I've watched the game a few times now and I can tell you they go after Shobert time and time again in the redzone. More than any other one player. They won <----My point. If you had to point a finger at who had given up the 14 points in the endzone who would you point a finger at? Be honest.
I watched him in preseason, I watched him flash in the game. I've seen him make some great plays and he has a great motor. Don't have my finger on it yet, it's either size or speed, but he doesn't have it. He's a big part of the reason we lost Sunday and that's an undeniable fact to all but the homerest of the homers. Facts don't care what you believe or want to believe. They're all that matter, not feelings..football.
He has potential and he made some good plays, but he didn't have a great game. He lost the game and that's not great. jmho.
