The other thread got locked. We've got Kluber going today, with win number 20 on the line (and an AL tie for most wins in a row). If we lose, I will place the blame solely on the moderators of this board.

lets do it today

The longest streak in history is 26 games by the New York Giants in 1916-this streak however includes a tie.

The longest streak that doesn't include a tie is 21 games by the Cubs (of all people) in 1935.

This is very fun to watch, but to quote a line from Money Ball, 'No one gives a **** unless you win the last game of the season.'

Honestly, the way we're playing (and have been consistently for quite a while now) I like our chances for both circumstances.

VERY MUCH

If I had to pick the Indians pitcher whose loss would end "The Streak", I'd pick Kluber.

Just because I think he would be least effected by it.

How's this for a stat...?

During the winning streak, the Indians have allowed 32 runs ..... and have hit 38 home runs! Yep, they have more home runs that the opposition has hits.

I left out:

"Good luck on that one, Detroit."

Tigers are sending a lefty named Boyd tonight against Kluber. Boyd's ERA is a hair under 6. (5.93)

Which of course means he'll pitch like the second coming of Lolich tonight.

So, does that mean I'd have to bet $410 to win $100?

The streak is 19 games, that's 171 innings of baseball. Of those 171 innings the Indians have been behind at the end of exactly 4 of them.

As Milk pointed out, if you want to bet on the Indians to win, you bet $410 to win $510. (you give the house $410 cash pregame, they give you $510 back if Indians win - you made $100)

If they lose, you lose your $410. No cash back.

If you bet on Detroit to win, you pay the house $100. If Detroit wins, you get $305.

If they lose, you lose your $100.

At least that's my understanding of crazy baseball betting lines.

That is the most lopsided baseball line I've ever seen.

Probably about the equivalent of being an NFL two touchdown underdog. Although you can't really convert baseball lines into point spreads.

If I had money to bet on baseball games, I wouldn't touch that line with a ten foot pole.

Yeah that's pretty much right.

-410 means bet $410 to win $100.
+305 means bet $100 to win $305.

That's a highly unusual line for an MLB game. It's not much apart from the Mayweather vs McGregor line-- one of the greatest boxers of all time boxing vs an MMA fighter in his first sanctioned boxing match (and as many of us said all along, that line was seriously screwed up.)

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 1-14 since the cover date of the Sports Illustrated that asked if they were the best team ever.

Francisco Lindor now tied with Jimmy Rollins (2007) and Jose Valentin (2004) for the most HR (30) in a season by a switch-hitting shortstop.

The Cleveland Indians have won 19 games in a row. Nineteen. In-frigging-credible.

So in honor of that outrageous streak, here come . . .

10 COOL TIDBITS ON THE INDIANS WINNING STREAK

• Firsts off, if you’re a resident of the great state of Ohio, you’re witnessing something no fan of any major professional sports team in Ohio has witnessed in what we’d consider to be “modern times.” A team with a 19-game winning streak? Hasn’t happened in the lifetime of any Ohio natives we know of. Back in 1947-48, the Cleveland Browns won 18 in a row (counting the postseason) in the late, not-so-great AAFC. And just last winter, the Columbus Blue Jackets won 16 straight. But 19 a row? The Reds, Cavs, Bengals and NFL version of the Browns have never approached that. So this isn’t just history. It’s Ohio history. And yes, that’s a good thing.

• Hey, did someone just mention the Browns? Oh yeah. That was us. The Browns have won 19 games in the last 1,793 days – dating way, way, waayyy back to October of 2012. Or, to make this simpler, the Browns have basically won 19 games in the last five years. And the Indians have won 19 games in the last three weeks!

• Sorry. One more on the Browns, courtesy of my pal Reuben Frank (of CSN Philly). The Browns have now gone 40 straight games without winning more than ONE in a row. And the Indians have gone 19 straight without losing ANY in a row.

• No, LeBron and his Cavaliers have never won 19 games in a row at any point during either of his tenures in Cleveland. But yes, LeBron HAS been part of a winning streak this long – in Miami. In 2013. Then again, a bunch of NBA players have been involved in streaks this long, since just in the last 10 years, the Warriors (2015), Heat (2013), Rockets (2008), Celtics (2008), Spurs (2014) and even the Hawks (2014-15) have won at least 19 in a row. But if we look at the other three major professional sports, where that sort of domination is slightly less routine, just three other teams have won this many games in a row IN THE REGULAR SEASON in the last 50 years – Peyton Manning’s 2008-09 Colts (23), Tom Brady’s 2006-08 Patriots (21) and Scott Hatteberg’s 2002 Oakland A’s (20). I don’t know you, but I’m thinking Peyton, Brady and Hatteberg could swap fun stories for hours about that!

• Did you know the Indians once went 37 seasons in a row (1957-93) without having a plus-100 run differential for a whole season? These days, they have a plus-100 run differential just during this STREAK (132-32).

• So how many teams have had a plus-100 run differential during a streak this long – or during a streak of any length for that matter? Best I can tell, that answer is NONE, at least in the modern era. Biggest run differential I could find by any team during any streak since 1900 is plus-95, by the Christy Mathewson’s 1904 New York Giants, during a 17-game winning streak. Now if we go back to the 19th century, Wee Willie Keeler’s 1894 Baltimore Orioles got to an insane plus-117 during an 18-game winning streak. But sorry -- no video highlights of that streak are currently available.

• Just during this streak, the Indians have had six games in which their starting pitcher gave up zero runs. You know who has started NONE of those games? Corey Kluber, of course.

• Then again, the Indians’ whole staff has allowed a total of 32 runs during this entire winning streak. The team they just passed in the race for best record in the AL, the Astros, just gave up 32 runs in 23 INNINGS over the weekend, in one series in Oakland.

• But this hasn’t just been about pitching. The Indians' hitters have a .950 OPS during this streak – as a team. That’s in 776 plate appearances, so it’s not that small a sample. Did you know only nine qualifying hitters in the whole sport have a .950 OPS (or better) for the whole season? Buster Posey doesn’t. Kris Bryant doesn’t. Cody Bellinger doesn’t. A total of 138 of the 147 qualifying hitters in baseball don’t. Yet the Indians have a .950 OPS as a TEAM during this streak? That’s just crazy.

• Finally, you know the most mind-boggling part of this streak for me? It’s that the Indians have found themselves trailing at the end of exactly four innings in this entire streak. Four. In other words, they’ve essentially trailed for four innings in three WEEKS – and never, at any point, trailed for more than two innings in a row. Tell me how that’s possible, ladies and gentlemen. Tell me how any of this is possible.
But then again, that’s what makes it all so mesmerizing. So I’m sure we’ll be back with more fun tidbits – as soon as they get to, say, 30 in a row.

Corey Kluber is a machine. This streak may be what pushes him over the top in the Cy Young race.

It's cool to see the Tribe getting so much love in the national press. Kinda makes the claims about the bias against the Browns sound lame.

What a fun ride this has been and continues to be!

Kluber was brilliant again. Further cemented his case for the CY Young.

Frankie with another HR and great defensively.

Jose (love that the Tribe locked him up to a long term deal) had himself a web gem in the 9th. I love being at the ballpark when the "Joooseeee....Jose, Jose, Jose" chants start.

Let's get another win tomorrow with Sunshine on the mound.

Go Tribe!
