Why should a comment Hill made on Twitter be a fireable offense because Hill works at ESPN?
If Hill made her comment on-air during an ESPN broadcast, the position asking for her to be fired from ESPN might make more sense.
Another interesting point Dan Patrick touched on toward the end of this video...how many of us are capable of looking at the situation and her comments from the perspective of a minority?
People on this board can't even look at a different perspective from another white dude.
Asking them to look at it from a perspective of a minority is a waste of time. Have a better chance at a peace agreement with North Korea than for that to happen, especially on this board.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Why should a comment Hill made on Twitter be a fireable offense because Hill works at ESPN?
It's an interesting question.
Here is one possible solution, one I don't agree with myself but I will throw it out there for discussion: make political views a federally protected status. That is to say, businesses would not be able to fire somebody for their political views that are expressed on their own time.
This would certainly preclude Hill from being fired for her comment (ESPN wouldn't even have the option... not without getting sued anyway) but of course, the same law would protect those evil conservatives as well.
Again... meant for discussion only. I would lean toward being 'against' such a change but others may feel differently.
Not surprised no one read this link. Instead they just go on and on, pushing their hate about how ESPN would never discipline a black employee and how Curt Schilling had so hard just because he bashes muslims on the reg.

According to ThinkProgress, which Thursday cited “two sources familiar with the situation,” the sports network “reached out to two other black ESPN hosts,” Michael Eaves and Elle Duncan, to take Hill’s place that evening. They declined, and Smith reportedly also refused to do the show without Hill.
Confronted with a situation in which it might have to replace both Hill and Smith with white hosts, ESPN asked her to join him on the air, per ThinkProgress. The pair also hosted Thursday’s 6 p.m. “SportsCenter.”
In an email to The Post, a spokesman for ESPN denied the ThinkProgress report Thursday, saying, “We never asked any other anchors to do last night’s show. Period.”

Late Wednesday morning, after a contentious meeting, a top executive at ESPN told Hill to go home. She was seen in the parking lot around 11:30 a.m. ET, the time she is usually in meetings to plan out the show.
When he learned that Hill was sent home, Smith immediately made it known that he would not appear on the 6 p.m. broadcast without her. That left ESPN with no hosts for its flagship show, scheduled to start in just a few hours.
ESPN then reached out to multiple anchors, including Elle Duncan and Michael Eaves, the two anchors mentioned in the original report, to check their availability for the 6:00 p.m. show. According to sources, Duncan and others told ESPN they were not available to fill in. ThinkProgress has subsequently learned that ESPN reached out to other anchors regarding their availability, including white hosts.
Some sources who spoke to ThinkProgress said they believed ESPN preferred to replace Jemele Hill and Michael Smith with a black host. Other sources pushed back strongly against this notion, saying that ESPN was in a crisis mode and looking for anyone to fill in, regardless of race.
Now, I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted a black host, representation is a major selling point with any news/opinion broadcast. Think about commentators on the news or any roundtable discussions, it's like the United Nations. Beautiful. It's important to bring in viewers. However, I also know that ESPN just fired a bunch of on air talent and are working their current talent very hard. I'm not surprised they couldn't find someone to replace them in 7 hours, especially as it's their flagship program. However, I wouldn't be surprised if coworkers were saying "No". From what talent ESPN has left it looks like Michael, Jamele and the Around the Horn kids run that place.

It's still a double standard. We seem to forget that Hank Williams Jr made a statement about Obama being like Hilter (paraphrasing) on Fox & Friends. ESPN immediately dropped his song from MNF.
How is that different than Jemele making a statement on Twitter. Neither were made while on air for ESPN.
I stopped watching ESPN other than games. The network turned me off with their agenda based commentary long ago.
Creed has a song titled 'One'. Part of the lyrics are; 'Why hold down one to raise another'. This is what ESPN is doing IMO. Holding white employees to a much more stringent standard than black employees.
Jamele Hills twitter comments bother me because she is a journalist and she made a statement as fact when in truth her statement is opinion. A rather IGNORANT one at that. I guess Sean Combs, Lil Wayne, Herschel Walker, George Foreman and countless other black friends of Trump are white supremacists as well. Hell, the man supported Jessie Jackson during his Presidential campaign in the '80s TWICE!
Who said anything about only black peoples perspective?
I'm glad the left pushes out people like you, and I mean that with all my heart.
More and more people, including white people, support diversity, multiculturalism, and speak out against supremacy.
You've already been replaced. Know that the next time you rant about something stupid like you're typical "ya know, I defended minorities but blah blah blah".
Let me know how the next trump rally goes. I'm sure Haus and 40 will send you an invite, so you can continue your "both sides" crusade.
Don't have time for fence riding frauds. You're a dying breed.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I've never been to a Trump rally. Nothing against Trump (obviously), but political rallies just aren't my thing.
That said, there are many recurring themes I've heard from people I know who have been to Trump rallies, as well as accounts I've read on here and on various sites/social media:
- People are very friendly and welcoming of people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, etc.
- The amount of violence that takes place at rallies has been laughably overstated. To the extent that it does happen, much of it is instigated by paid disruptors and other political trolls. Many of them are just unbelievably nasty, cursing, spitting, getting in people's faces (again, these mainly the anti-Trump protesters.)
- Most of the rallies during the political season were private events paid for by Trump and co. and therefore they had the discretion to throw out those they saw fit.
- There were always announcements not to harm the protesters and to let security/police handle them. Trump at one time made an inference that he would pay someone's legal fees... guess what got all the attention.
- Many instances of peaceful people being attacked outside of rallies for no other reason than being there. Our fellow Dawg, FBO posted about his experiences in Arizona and California that were far more inline with online right-wing news sites than they were with mainstream media.
- Here's one personal of an off-duty police officer who attended a Donald Trump rally in Arizona:
And I'm better than you cause you constantly speak up in defense or of them.
But oh well. Dying breed. You aren't relevant anymore.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
And yet we've seen violence at trump rallies from trump supporters.
And now more recently an ISIS style attack from a trump supporter, who in this case was a white supremacist.
But whatever. Dying breeds.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
The white supremacist and those who make excuses for them, often though "what about" rhetoric.
Like you.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
White supremacist is literally in the title of this thread.
I given up on you months ago. Dying breed.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
He keeps saying double standards but never seem to point out any.

Hmmm.
It would seem to me the double standard they speak of is how guys from Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder on up through time have been fired for perceived racism while Blacks are supported and not fired for exactly the same thing.
Yea, I think that is the double standard everyone is talking bout.
As I said earlier, I am not interested in discussing this w/people who are willing to have a discussion that involves give and take. Your mind is made up. Thus, there is no use discussing topics w/you.
So, you and Swish can take a few more shots and I'm cool w/it because I DON'T want the last word, but I'm not replying to either of you. It's a waste of time and effort.
Question: the guy who did the firing at espn. Was he white or black?
I legitimately don't know.
And then that leads to another question: how is that related to what any of us do? If it's a white guy doing the firing, then how is the double standard on us? I can see if it was wa black dude, then I'd understand where this is coming from.
I don't know who Snyder is, just like I don't know who schilling is, nor do I care.
I don't watch sports center anyway, so whether hill gets fired or not doesn't make a difference to me.
So again, what double standard?
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Judging by the crickets in this thread, it appears nobody can point to a double standard.
Proving once again that posters like pulling comments out of their asses with no actual evidence to back it up.
Pathetic. But dying breeds and all. Oh well.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I only heard about him after he got fired. I don't follow baseball like that.
Also, I've been following this thread. I've seen a bunch of whining, but no double standards based on actual facts.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I gave several examples of double standards. He doesn't want to acknowledge him because he knows he's wrong. Instead, he makes crap up like "you're irrelevant." LOL.........dude's a waste of time.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
As I stated to 40, how is that a double standard from black people?
Isn't that a double standard from whoever runs ESPN? I didn't ask schilling to be fired just like I didn't ask hill to be fired.
If hill doesn't get fired, is that her fault or the white guy who runs ESPN? Isn't that a double standard from the white guy?
So again, I'm looking for proof that somehow black people have a double standard, and nobody has yet to provide any evidence.

Yes you did give several. I went a few rounds with him a couple months ago lol. Swish is like the rest of us, hard headed at times but I'd still buy him a beer at a Browns game. I also went several rounds with you on the old board and I'd offer you a beer also.
