Water problems at Browns Stadium fail to hamper Chesney concert
Sunday, July 15, 2007
Amanda Garrett
Plain Dealer Reporter
Country music superstar Kenny Chesney billed it as the "Flip Flop Summer Tour."

But 50,000 of his Cleveland fans probably wish they had worn their winter boots instead.

Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, Cleveland Browns Stadium lost water pressure.

The toilets barely worked, if at all.

Yet, water -- mixed with whatever -- began pouring from some of the ceilings onto some concertgoers. The overflow then ran down some of the aisles, flooding walkways.

By 10:30 p.m., Cleveland water crews determined a broken pipe in the stadium had caused the problem, Cleveland Utilities Director Julius Ciaccia said.

Browns officials later said the pipe was underground and would take several days to fix.

The inconvenience didn't appear to dampen the enthusiasm of Chesney's fans, however, many of whom had begun bar-hopping Saturday afternoon, hours before the show.

And no one appeared to be leaving the show early. Maybe that's because Browns fans remember former Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

People were drunk. The toilets and urinals rarely worked. And the floors were soaked.

Oh, what unsettling nostalgia.

On a negative note, that is bad luck for Cleveland. People will make fun of this. I also feel for the poor concert goers. Must have sucked.

On a positive note, this stupid concert has finally come and gone.

I'm not crazy about Chesney either, but there are 50,000 Clevelanders who disagree with us.

So an underground pipe broke and water rained from the ceilings. What level of the stadium were these people in? The 3rd basement level?

I'm not judging Chesney, don't know enough about him, although I do hate MOST modern pop-country that I've heard.

I'm just sick of this concert being all over DawgTalk and the Browns' website.

You mean you didn't check the countdown daily, on the main site for the last 6 months?

Gosh, not sure I want to even say this (for fear of being ripped for being a country fan )

I was there - sat in section 513.......and it wasn't just clean water leaking all over the stadium...........

I spent a fair amount of time working my way up to the stage to get pictures (my wife made me), and especially on the lower level, water wasn't dripping, it was running from above - in many places you had to walk through 2-3 inches of water/liquid.

Still had a good time, though.

And then some....I figure they got a lot more than they bargained for!

I'm sure it didn't smell like teen spirit!

And I would imagine most people were wearing flip-flops and sandals (well, it was a country music concert - cowboy boats and all)! Must sober you up a tad when walking through fecal matter.

I suppose there wasn't a 3-second rule in place during the concert.

Ticket Tailgate and Family Night cancelled
07.16.2007
On Saturday evening, Cleveland Browns Stadium suffered water damage in several areas in and around the facility due to a break in a fresh water supply line. While the problem is still being assessed by both the Cleveland Browns and City of Cleveland officials, the Browns would like to emphasize to our fans that ensuring that the stadium is prepared for the upcoming season is our top priority. The organization will take all necessary steps to achieve this goal.

Due to the fact that repairs need to be made prior to the Browns first preseason game versus the Kansas City Chiefs on August 11, the Browns are canceling the Browns Ticket Tailgate event scheduled for Friday, July 20, as well as Family Night, scheduled for August 3.

Refunds for Family Night tickets can be made in two ways:

All tickets purchased via Ticketmaster Charge-by-Phone or the Internet will be automatically refunded on the credit card used for the original purchase. Face value of each ticket as well as the per ticket convenience fee will be refunded. No action is necessary by the ticket holder. Physical tickets are void and have no value.

For tickets purchased at a Ticketmaster Retail Location or at the Cleveland Browns Ticket Office, please return the tickets to the original sale location for a full refund.

Fan still have a chance to purchase 2007 Browns single game tickets for the first time on Saturday, July 21 starting at 10 a.m. by calling 1-800-729-6464 or 216-241-5555. Fans can also purchase tickets online at Ticketmaster.com.

For more information, log on to ClevelandBrowns.com.

Maybe it is time for Lerner to ask for a new stadium.

I knew a few people that went (my sister being one) the water problems did not effect their time, in fact, its Cleveland, and they were at Browns Stadium, I heard most of them were drunk!!! They must just be getting ready for September 9th
