NFL didn’t fine players who stayed in the locker room for the national anthem
Technically, NFL rules say players have to be on the field during the national anthem. But the league isn’t doing anything about players who stayed in the locker room.
The league has confirmed to PFT that players were not fined if they stayed in the locker room for the anthem. League rules do not require players to stand, but the rules do say players are to be on the field when the anthem is played. It’s apparently a rule the league isn’t going to enforce.
The Titans and Seahawks both stayed in the locker room for the anthem last week. The Steelers did too, although Afghanistan veteran Alejandro Villanueva left the locker room and stood at attention for the anthem.
It’s unclear whether any teams will sit out the anthem this week, but if they do, the NFL isn’t going to do anything about it.

The NFL and the NBA have different approaches to the national anthem.
As the NFL is embroiled in controversy over players kneeling during the anthem, the league has steadfastly insisted that players have the right not to stand and will not be disciplined if they choose to exercise that right.
The NBA, meanwhile, has reiterated that players must stand for the anthem. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the league’s longstanding rule requiring players to stand for the anthem isn’t going anywhere.
“On the anthem specifically, we have a rule that requires our players to stand for the anthem. It’s been a rule as long as I’ve been involved with the league, and my expectation is that our players will continue to stand for the anthem,” Silver said.
What’s unclear is what the NBA would do if a player chooses to violate that rule. In 1996 the NBA suspended Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf for refusing to stand for the anthem. Abdul-Rauf quickly relented and stood for the anthem while saying a silent prayer. After President Trump’s comments kicked off the latest anthem controversy last week, however, two of the NBA’s biggest stars, Steph Curry and LeBron James, offered comments critical of Trump. If those two stars were to kneel in protest, it’s highly unlikely that Silver would suspend them.
So far, the NBA has managed to avoid controversy. All it takes is one player to defy Silver’s orders, and the controversy will spread to basketball.
Ratings for Thursday Night Football this week were down 13 percent from last year, despite the entirety of the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers remaining standing for the anthem. Shapiro asked why, if the protests were "going so well" as the players intended, the teams have thus far not protested like last week. "Ticket sales are down 31 percent," Shapiro claimed, calling the incidents a "massive hit for the NFL."
Some vote for thei own self interest. I'd say the vast majority of voters do this no matter which party they vote for. Some vote out of being uneducated in which case they shoot themselves in the foot.

The protests were front page news for almost a week (whether they deserved such prominent coverage with more urgent events happening around the world is another story) and this is a forum dedicated to the Cleveland Browns and the NFL.
