All this talk in the preseason about how he was going to turn this defense into a force With his "come get some mantra" It's been anything but..... He let a career sub..500 qn beat him today It's the worst defense in the AFC North Josh McCown.....really?? He's always talked a good game with players in shorts and helmets I don't see any identity with this defense

The defense was fine today, he just got two of his best players back and the qb of the D is still out. Williams gets. Pass because of talent and the fact he’s proven to be a legit DC for 20 years

Is Greg getting a pass that Hue isn't?
Hue was here last year, there's more of a larger example.

I am pleased with some of what we got after Horton. We get some pressure, we have gotten off the field. We have been trying to win in spite of giveaways, taking sacks, and picks on the offense. Our crappy secondary coverage, and a number of injuries, these have hurt the D. I am not putting some of the Kizer/Hue nonsense on the D.
I like what Hogan has shown. Kizer seems to insist he is not ready. Play the best chance to win players. Prove it is Kizer. Just not ready IMO. No good answer here; plenty of bad. Williams is OK, but he can get too cute and too tentative. MG should shake it up for the better especially with JC. How about the pass the STs get? Today was an atrocity.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I think the defense played pretty well today...Sure wasnt perfect...But we swarmed the running game mostly and seemed to be full of energy. Sure McCown shredded us when we gave him ample time..
On the ASJ (Jets TE) touchdown...I wish we would have gave I. Campbell some help as he had little chance covering the whole side of the endzone against a huge ASJ, and knowing teams our utilizing their TEs against us.

Defense played a lot better today than weeks past. I think once Gregg brings Peppers in even more and stop worrying about giving up the big play, our Defense will be even better.

Defense played very well today except when it counted the MOST and gave up the 97 yard drive for a TD.

The only thing I get on Williams about is playing are safeties 20 miles from the line of scrimmage. Also, there are times when he will call on our DBs to play alot of man-man coverage. But today, I would not blame him too much.

IMO, no deserves or has earned a pass. We're 1-20, haha. We're utterly pathetic and the signs of improvement and etc are invisible.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I give Gregg Williams a pass for the same reason I give Hue Jackson one: There is more than enough plays for this team to be winning, but the young players aren't getting it done consistently.
This defense was impressive today. The touchdown drive was a disaster that ruined an otherwise flawless game, but even with it, you can't ask much more than what the defense accomplished.
At the end of the day, two missed field goals was the overall difference. Crowell's fumble and Kizer's interception, both in the red zone, were also the difference. The 4th down attempt by Hue, which I am not against, was also a little questionable - I feel they stuffed that because it was the most basic call you can imagine in that situation - but that was yet another difference.
For the offense, that's a potential 26 points blown. For the defense, they really only had one bad drive, and it was sadly when it counted most.
We still need the talent to catch up to the coaching.
One thing I will say - this pass rush is getting frustrating. I've been a big fan of Ogbah since before he was a Cleveland Brown, but I'd be lying if I said his start to the season against the pass hasn't been very disappointing.

The d was fine. I was at the game.
The problem is our head coach is a idiot. He's done....or needs to be. Pat Shurmer was better than this guy, and Pat sucked.

I don't know my friend. I could coach the team to a 0-20 record.
I want to stick up for him, but damn, he makes some poor decisions.
OK....at least Hue isn't a punk like Pat was

Peen, I think Hue DOES have to answer for this loss. You gotta win games like this and he sure did not help the cause. I think we as Browns fans have seen that some people cannot be head coaches. Pat is/was a coordinator. Hue wants to call plays but he out thinks himself alot of times.
Last year, I'm cannot hang that on him because some of those losses where player induced.(* like the game Crow fumbles on the 1 yard line *) Also, our talent was lacking badly. But today, yes, he owns this one.

I understand everyone is looking at the total offense the Jets put up.212 whatever it was. But I'm reminded that Bilal Powell didn't finish the game. Josh McCown marched the Jets downfield for a clinching TD. The Jets offensive firepower is made up of career joyrneymen and 1st rd busts Kerley McCown Jenkins Not exactly a rogues gallery of offensive stalwarts Williams has always been a big talker of his defenses but they melt when the heat is on Williams stormed into Berea like he was all that His great defensive scheme gave up 31 to the Bengals He's been with 6 teams for a reason Has he ever been hired by a playoff team?

I hope Gregg isn't like Rob Ryan. All talk but, nothing to show. That said...I don't think the defense is the biggest issue right now. They are on the field A LOT. For me the biggest worry is our offense including the playcalling. I am definitely in the "we need an OC" camp. But, who am I to say that? I'm just another knuckleheaded fan...but, even I can see that something isn't working.

I was at the game and the Defense played well, the personal packages at times I question, Going into the 4th quarter the Jet had 9 rushing yards, we led in every offensive category. This defense is getting zero help from the offense. The last Jets scoring drive there were 2 questionable calls on personal. Why on a key 3rd down is Garrett not in the game, and then the very next play on 1st down he is? Why are you dropping Shelton back into zone coverage on the TD pass? Defense is going to be ok, Need better safety play, but over all they kept us in the game.

I can't remember the exact situation, but it was something like this: Jets had the ball at their own 10 yard line. It was 3rd and medium/long. McCown buys time, scrambles right, and throws across the field to the "blocking" TE who never catches ... and it goes for like 40 yards. IMO, that was the biggest defensive give up of the day ... and a play of the day.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

That was a terrible play and our defense lost contain and the TE had no one near him, and then the only defender in the area wiffed on the tackle.

He lost to Josh McCown Enough said If our offense had played to the level of our defense yesterday we would have won 27-10. This season has been a moving target of who to blame for what, eventually it has to land on Hue since he's the top guy... but the loss yesterday was not about the defense.

Half time stats (as close as I can remember).
Jets - 9 yards rushing Jets - less than 50 yards Passing Jets - Time of possession about 12 minutes.
They led 3-0.
The loss vs the Jets was not the dang defensive coordinator's fault.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

You have to look at things on a game by game basis. The past couple of weeks the D has played poorly. Our secondary was thrashed and the pressure was virtually non existent.
Yesterday the D played just fine. I thought they played well in the Pitt. game.
This is the first year in Williams system. As such there will be hiccups. I have called out the D in the games where I thought they played poorly, but this game isn't one of them.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
